Previous thread >>147784205
Reach is the worst game in the series, but not the point of decline.
>>147925757
The Flood were so tiring to fight. They were alright in CE sparingly (fuck the library) but they got old way too fast
Second for WZFF is comfy
>>147925674
They made some dumb decisions like not letting people derank.
>>147925905
>Reach worse than 4
What has this general become
>>147925982
I'm not saying that it was a perfect try, but it's a much better multiplayer than any of the Halo games that have come out in the past decade, content aside.
>>147926062
3 babbies trying to rationalize, it's nothing new
>>147926259
>Sinking to buzzwords again
You guys really are dragging this general down
>>147926062
Reach had reticle bloom, slow unresponsive movement, and unbalanced weapons.
>>147926149
343 does seem to learn from their mistakes, at least to an extent.
>>147926796
They have a pretty clear lack of direction, but they've been trying to improve the series.
>>147926374
I don't want to repeat the same arguments over and over but it still had a far superior campaign with less filler than 4s and a more satisfying end. It also had more content, better custom games and customizable options, better armour customization, far better art design for armours and environments with less lens flare and floating glowing stuff, it had a better variety of matchmaking playlists, even though it had loadouts they were less intrusive and unbalnced even though the armour abilities were worse in Reach and it overall had much better maps even though Reach had pretty weak maps.
Saying Reach had unbalanced weapons when discussing 4 is pretty ridiculous when you factor in how broken the DMR was in 4. I'd take reticule bloom over getting killed in mere seconds of leaving cover. The only thing Halo 4 had over Reachs movement was Sprint by default, they were both slow and clunky without it
>>147926374
pace your shots
don't slap the sticks like a retard
most of the sandbox was usable what are you even talking about
>>147926887
>Saying Reach had unbalanced weapons when discussing 4 is pretty ridiculous when you factor in how broken the DMR was in 4.
It was less dominant in 4 than it was in Reach, despite being comparatively more powerful. Every weapon in 4 aside from the Suppressor and pre-patch BR and Carbine were strong, and had a faster TTK.
> I'd take reticule bloom over getting killed in mere seconds of leaving cover.
git gud and stop positioning yourself like a retard
>>147926930
>most of the sandbox was usable what are you even talking about
Literally nothing but the shotgun, rocket launcher, sniper, and DMR was ever worth picking up.
>>147926857
>It was less dominant in 4 than it was in Reach, despite being comparatively more powerful.
You obviously never played the fucking game then. Every single map with open space was ultimately fucking destoryable by the spawnable mini-sniper, with ridiculously good accuracy and firepower. Maps became fucking hide and seek, just look at Valhalla and Complex. Absolutely awful. The DMR in Reach was less dominant because it was less accurate and far less powerful
>git gud and stop positioning yourself like a retard
My 1.9 k/d begs to differ.
Best girl coming through!
>>147927427
>Every single map with open space was ultimately fucking destoryable by the spawnable mini-sniper
Oh no, maps not designed to work with the game ended up being shit! Post-patch, everyone just used the BR because it was easier to land shots with and had a faster TTK.
> just look at Valhalla and Complex. Absolutely awful.
You're right, those maps are awful.
>The DMR in Reach was less dominant because it was less accurate and far less powerful
Every weapon in Reach was less accurate and powerful than the DMR.
>>147927210
>git gud and stop positioning yourself like a retard
>implying positioning was the issue and not the DMR
God you are fucking dense.
>>147927723
>i'm playing this game wrong
>so it's the game's fault i'm losing and not mine
>>147927690
>Every weapon in Reach was less accurate and powerful than the DMR.
And the DMR didn't break maps in Reach to the point where map movement was almost non existent and cover was essential. Plenty of weapons were worth using in Reach that would outclass the DMR outside of long range, the DMR in 4 was so overpowered that it would beat most weapons up close
>>147925757
>We'll Never See The Flood Again Edition
Why?
>>147927450
Yes!
>>147925871
Fuck you reach is great once everyone got out of the honeymoon stage of the armor abilities people just used sprint the competitive game was fine. Plus it had the best armor of any games, I love halo 5 but all the armor variants suck and look like power Rangers
>>147928051
>Plenty of weapons were worth using in Reach that would outclass the DMR outside of long range
Yeah, power weapons.
>the DMR in 4 was so overpowered that it would beat most weapons up close
It objectively wouldn't, since all of the automatic weapons had a faster TTK.
>>147928073
343 has no plans to bring them back into the series, it's all about Cortana and her dumb a.i orbiters now.
>>147928051
>Plenty of weapons were worth using in Reach that would outclass the DMR outside of long range
I love reachfags, they always make my shitty day better.
>>147928234
So everyone in universe magically forgets about them?
Who here misses the heroin rifle?
4 = 3 = H:O = 2 = 1 > Dewrito > 5
>finish my unlock grind
>finally have everything except what I'm guessing are preorder bonuses or some shit
>picking through armors
>I can either look through the sorted "collections" tab and try to interpret the thumbnail
>or I can go through my customization tab and scroll through all the shit until I reach like 30 back to back Legendaries
>while in-game, have load out weapons sorted in fucked up order based on unlock order rather than something reasonable like attachment type, sight, etc
I really wish we could (re)sort our unlocks.
>>147928379
To be fair, they are threat neutralized 6 years ago that only lasted a couple of months.
>>147928519
Best Covenant weapon coming through.
>>147928379
Not trying to be a cocksucking fanboy, but aren't they done and over with? They put all their assets in one location (the Ark) and Master Chief Finished The Fight (TM)
>>147928715
Loved that thing -- it was like an FRG that didn't suck.
>>147928747
Aren't they still floating around outside the galaxy waiting to pop up whenever? Plus, every Halo has a facility for the Flood.
>>147928715
And the second best.
>>147928703
Did knowledge of the Flood ever reach the general population, or is that information all classified?
>>147928230
>Yeah, power weapons.
Isn't that the fucking point? Reach had barebones weapons in its loadouts, so it focussed on weapons on map
>>147928242
>Thinking it wasn't the worse game in the franchise makes me a reachfag
All you're doing is making yourself sound like more of a fucktard resorting to shitty buzzwords because you don't understand proper games design and think the DMR was not an issue in 4, even though the developers even acknowledged it and the majority of the fanbase acknowledges it. Theres a reason it isn't a base loadout weapon in 5 and why it is REQ level 6, it's broken and doesn't fucking work
>>147928867
Maybe -- probably -- but they were dormant for millennia after the Forerunners activated the Halo Array, weren't they?
Might just be that within the cosmologically tiny amount of time the Halo series is taking place, they haven't come back.
Maybe in Halo 80, a few hundred years from now (and set thousands more years in the future), we can expect a resurgence.
>>147929017
>Isn't that the fucking point?
It would be fine if Reach didn't have such a bloated arsenal of useless automatic weapons.
>>147929214
I have no idea what your talking about the spiker useless blasphemy.
>>147929017
>comparing weapons between different games as if they're the same
If it was such a widely-recognized problem as you say it is, why didn't it get nerfed in 4's turbo update?
>>147929417
The Spiker - you mean "Needler that doesn't have tracking projectiles and doesn't supercombine"?
>>147929470
Weapons ARE all the same!
I mean, the magnum was amazingly OP in Halo 1 and has remained so ever since, right?
>>147929519
No, he means the projectile weapon that has bullet drop and doesn't actually do any more damage than the hitscan weapons.
Brilliant balancing, Bungie. Typically the hard weapons are the stronger ones.
>>147929691
I know. I was illustrating the negative points of the Spiker.
>>147929801
I was also illustrating a negative point of the Spiker.
>>147929519
>>147929691
>>147929801
>>147929878
The spiker is the greatest brute invention made for brutes by brutes and if anyone disagrees they're speciesest and probably a heretic.
>>147929983
I like this Brute invention better.
>>147930057
I like it when your flesh is seared.
>>147930057
I wish it could've come back, as useless as it was it was fun to use
>>147931123
It wasn't useless, it was just weaker than the normal shotgun. It felt more balanced.
>>147931312
Maybe they'll bring back Brute weapons and dual wielding for Halo 6
>>147932283
>Brute weapons
Maybe
>dual wielding
It was never necessary.
>>147932353
It was at least an interesting concept, they could always lower the accuracy for balancing
Do you think they'll add the Brutes back in since they're making a resurgence in Wars 2?

>>147938883
>What's the easiest playlist to rank up in?
Free For All, because there's only 6 people and the top 3 get to rank up.
Also, for some reason, if someone quits the match, as one person often will, the top 4 people will then rank up. I don't know if this is a bug or if it's intentional for some reason.
There are however a few catches to playing Free For All...
1. It's the most agonizingly annoying playlist to play. People will consistantly leech your kills and you'll often be killed by someone else as soon as you beat someone else.
2. It's going to tank your Win/Loss ratio, which you really shouldn't care about anyway, but just know that while the top 3 rank up, you need to get 1st to get a "victory"
>>147939707
I thought free for all had 8 people?
If then changed it then good. Because 8 people was a fucking cluster fuck
>>147939790
It was lowered to 6 a while ago.
>>147938712
What CSR?
>>147939707
Another problem with free for all is that you never feel like you're improving.
You are, but because you keep getting matched against similar ranks and thus getting killed a lot, you feel frustrated a lot.
>>147939882
I don't know, it's just a pic.

I want the credit system back from Reach
>>147941342
This is true as well.
Generally speaking, the best players in Halo 5 are ranked as champions #100-200
Champions ranked double digits often... well, they're good players, but they would lose to the previously mentioned players that are ranked a bit lower.
>>147941565
>I want the credit system back from Reach
Reqs are here to stay
>>147941804
Reqs are better, since you can max them out in a much shorter amount of time.
>>147941804
Reqs can stay, but they should be for warzone-exclusive features.
Armor customization should be earned through spending credits, commendations, accomplishments, and achievements.
>>147941954
Agreed.
Having all armor unlocked through REQs is lame because whenever I see someone with cool armor, he didn't earn it, he just got lucky. Or worse, he spent money.

How the fuck did the Humanity present even the slightest threat to the Elites and the covenant military in general?
>elites are SII-levels of roided physical ability (though without metallic implants this would destroy their bones?)
>have been attending weapons and tactics training since they could walk
>have technology that outstrips that used by humanity by centuries
>are present in numbers analogous to the total human population at the time
>still get BTFO by humans on the ground and only win in space because of their OP shielding
I don't get it, are all Elites literally retarded? What did they learn in those years of tactical schooling? How to sift sand through their fingers?
If you had as many SIIs as the covenant has elites and deployed them like elites, the war would be over in literally minutes

literally only place that is ever stated is in Fall of Reach, and that book is very inconsistent with later portrayals of just about everything (since the author was writing it before Bungie even knew what they wanted to do with the setting)
>Elites only won in space because of their OP shields
literally false, they played your average human commander like a damn fiddle, Keyes was the exception, and he was a prodigy
Also,
>>147944819
>>147945175
I have a theory about this:
Elites only ever send their young greenhorns to the ground. The real, prestigious, attractive jobs are all in space commanding ships. Ground combat was where they sent their young, inexperienced, hot-headed members to cut their teeth and get some experience commanding Grunts.
The A and B students spent all of their time in orbit, and only the C and below students were left on the Ground, as by all accounts the Covenant treated it more like a safari than anything else, a sport. Real war was in the Navy.
Whenever an actually talented Elite puts boots on the ground (like Thel Vadam or spec ops squads), the humans promptly get their shit pushed in because they're basically fighting half-SIIs.
Anyway, I don't think there was anything specific stating this, but I think it holds up. Yes/no?

slow down cowboy. slip space for humans still takes months to years. granted the covies have always been faster. slip space isn't blink, it'll still take time to move gear. unless they have a supply train larger than your mom. however any forward thinking human would try to interrupt that chain if it's that big. so where the fuck do they get resupplied from? if I remember right they couldn't touch down on a 'cleaned' planet.

>>147947184
Covies do the same thing that humans do, they maintain a huge stock of planets that serve as mines/farms/lumber mills, etc. Their supply chain starts from these "supply" worlds and slipspace carries the goods around the empire. That's why the Elites had apparently forgotten how to farm, all of their agriculture was outsourced to other planets.
Also, what takes human ships weeks to travel via slipspace takes covie ships minutes, they aren't just faster, they're multiple orders of magnitude faster
Is this the first appearance of the Black Elite? I'm assuming he's part of the Strike Team the Covies sent?
>>147947537
they can be young, but considering that they've embraced the NEET lifestyle so hard their bones have atrophied away like in Wall-e, I doubt they'd ever be considered "fit"

switch SIV and Elites and we're good.
No organic species is stronger than SII/SIVs except Hunters (who are living tanks), and brutes (who are explicitly stated as being xboxhueg). Provided, of course, that the Spartans are inside their suits

how the fuck is this supposed to make sense? They get all of their hydrocarbons from the air? Where would they get their oxygen? Do they metabolize it from food like we metabolize complex sugars?
>>147949074
Fuck that, that map creeped me the fuck whenever I played in it.
Riddle me this, /hg/,
If elites breath oxygen, why isn't their blood red?
>>147936885
>5% difference between red and blue victories
Oh, gee, I wonder if blue team blends in to maps like Fathom and Stasis?
>>147949423
The beta didn't have either of those maps.
>>147949368
because their blood's hemoglobin is Cobalt, and Cobalt oxide is purpleish, not red (which is the color of Iron oxide aka rust)

>>147949521

FUN FACT
cobalt hemoglobin works, having purple blood is possible

Good or bad game design?
>>147949912
bad armor design to be sure
>>147949489
No, but it had Breakout, which is a series of maps that are over 50% blue because of things like the floors, and some of the maps just being blue.

I'm loving this consistency
The billboards disappear in both versions from the bridge.
I'm also wondering what the Covies are doing here.

If hunters were as rare as they are in Halo 3/4/5, it would be a problem because there's so few of them, but since there's tons in CE (there's more hunters in T&R than in all of Halo 3) it's fine that they're easier to kill.

can someone explain to me why MC vs Locke and the IVs vs Jul Mdama were cutscenes, when they found the time to put in THREE (3) battles with the Warden?
>>147950865
Laziness. It's cheaper and less time consuming to copy and paste rather than create new game sections
More gameplay as the Arbiter when?
>>147951175
Never ever
>>147951386
pls no
>>147949912
Fair in previous games, but the insta-spins that they pull in 5 make them obnoxious. Doesn't help that they instakill, so fighting them alone in campaign and warzone just becomes unfun and waiting for a brief distraction.
rank campaigns
ODST > 2 > 1 > 3 > Reach >>>>>>> 5 >>> 4
So now that this place isn't shitpost central, did Microsoft ever fix the issues in Reach and the MCC? I was considering buying an Xbone for them but Reach at 18 fps doesn't sound like a good time.
>>147951801
>war time relationship simulator first
What the fuck is going on in the head of ODST fans?
The open world seconds were good, and piecing together the story was good. But the characters were fucking boneheaded retards, and the SECOND you land, you're thrown in to a retarded and hamfisted lovers spat in the middle of the invasion of humanities LAST planet

Yes, but these are different writers in different times.

muh drama
muh human scale
>>147951801
I should note I don't weight narrative high at all when considering camoaigns. For me, "story" is mostly a seperate thing.
1. Halo: Combat Evolved
2. Halo 2
3. Halo 3: ODST
4. Halo 4
5. Halo: Reach
6. Halo Wars
7. Halo 5: Guardians
8. Halo: Spartan Strike
9. Halo: Spartan Assault

I just want to kill aliens. Either let me play as Buck, or stop trying to make me care about dumb drama.
Not that anon, but i didn't like ODST because I played it on legendary, and the incessant, never ending BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP if you had anything less than full health was actually physically painful after a time. I'll never let how painful that was go.

343i's elites look so impossibly ugly, I can't not be surprised every time I see it
Gonna get some weekend customs going around 6:00 EST with a mix of minigames and regular gamemodes.
Even found one that simulates Invasion pretty well.
>>147952727
While I like ODST, I agree the beeping is agonizingly annoying
>>147952401
>>they're gonna do it, just you watch
Good
>>147952727
The bitching is really quick, and you can treat it like a normal lover's spat where you're the third wheel and just ignore it.
Also, I never had that problem when doing solo legendary, but that might just be me.
>>147952840
MCC or 5? If MCC what games?
"Move bitch, get out the way" starts to become audible as warthog rolls onto the scene

>>147952996
Halo 5, I'm leaving anything for MCC to Red.
Someone want to explain to me the difference between Woodland, Urban, Corp, and Tundra vehicles? Are they better than normal or not?
Are they better than each other?
>>147953216
>helioskrill is a special armor just for MCC diehards!
>just kidding, we're giving it to everybody now!
>>147953216
camos > corp > normal
>>147953216
The camo vehicles are better than corp but not as good as ONI
>>147953384
I don't think it's the same helioskril
>>147947213
Humans that high, Jackels and Grunts have been said to be able to rip humans apart with their bare hands, plus Grunts can hold a Fuel Rod with one hand. Humans may be equal to a non warrior Prophet. As it stands Humans are physically the weakest species in the Halo universe ignoring the Spartans of course.
>>147953726
Yeah, the new ones look better.
>INFECTION POWER RANKINGS
1. Halo 5 Infection
2. Halo 3 Infection
3. Halo 2 Honor System Zombies
4. Halo 4 Flood
5. Halo: Reach Infection
>>147954148
I actually agree with this ranking.
Well done
>>147954148
>flood better than reach
Are you talking about in terms of just default settings? Because if not, you're wrong. And if you are, I'd say they tie for fourth for different reasons.
>>147954230
>coming through his visor
That's pretty horrifying
>>147954230
>2 & 4
3 > 5 > Reach > 2 > 4
For a moment, let's say that Humans didn't secretly hold the keys to all Forerunner tech.
In this hypothetical, when the Covenant discovered humanity, after a brief conflict upon their first meeting, the Elites would most likely be impressed enough by their fighting skills to offer membership to the Covenant.
If Humanity gained entrance into the Covenant, what role would they serve in it, militarily, and socially?
>too physically weak to use as shock troops like elites/brutes/hunters
>too intelligent and slow to reproduce to waste as cannon fodder like Grunts
>no extraordinary special abilities like flight or jackal eyesight
>>147954696
They'd be more civilized Jackals, if they chose to join at all.
>>147954691
unfriended
>>147954847
Good
>>147954290
Flood is not very custom-friendly compared to others, but it's better than Reach Infection simply because every single Reach Infection map became about everyone getting to super high safe areas and farming kills.
>>147954696
I'd say they'd probably end up somewhere in the middle of all of them, jack-of-all trades units, basically. Could be used in command, strike units, small military incursions, pretty much anything.
