You know, one thing I really liked about the anime is that the animation for each character that was dancing was off by just so few frames a second that it felt like each character was dancing as a part of a group. I wish that SS at least skewed each characters' routine by a few tenths of a second in order to make it feel more organic.Looking at this, it's all just so synchronised that it feels deep in the uncanny valley.

Ehh, not having the card still drives me mad though. I'm still upset the Snow Wings event happened while I wasn't playing and I don't have that either. I've been even worse with this since they added the Producer Diary and I have to look at it knowing I can never fill her page.

I'm a weirdo who only really plays for the one character, I've got the N+ Yui in the center of my main unit surrounded by SR+s and SSR+s that I think seem cool, I don't even know what they do or what skills are there.

I know its 'just a stage model' but its a way to make her unique amongst everyone else so she can stand out and shine more in my roster. I don't spend ANY time watching MVs technically, since I'm barely good enough to beat Pro level tracks, but I like having her center stage for each new song I take on.

A single animationclip for choreography can be around 2 MB, compressed.

This for around 70 songs (and there will be more to come) will take upto like 140 MB.

If you had 5 times this, it'll be going beyond 500 MB just for the choreography.

If you can't see why this is going to be a problem for a casual phone game that the devs need to make accessible to as many people as possible, then you're a fucking idiot.

Delta compression. There's no need for each animation track to be completely different. You'd only need a few hundred kilobytes at most per song to have some of the characters move a bit differently.

They already move a "bit" differently.

For significant changes, you'll need separate animationclips. It's quite possible to splice parts together and have the common parts in one clip. But the size will again increase as you start making the changes more significant. If the changes aren't significant, you'll again claim they're lazy.

The only differences present now are rotation and delay. It's the same data track. There's no reason why they couldn't use delta encoding to have the characters move a bit differently. Even if it's just a different end pose for each character, at the very least. Having characters actually turn and face different directions during different parts of the song, without just spinning them in place. There's no reason whatsoever why they couldn't do that. And if they can have song-specific stages and assets (some of which must be at least a dozen megabytes per song), then surely they can spare a few hundred kilobytes for additional data tracks.
I'm not expecting every character to have completely different animation tracks. Even in the mainline console games, the dances are usually synced 90% of the time, with variances only during specific parts of the songs. I'm asking that they at least try to match what iDOLM@STER Arcade did a decade ago. That was PS2-tier hardware. Literally.

For each part where body movements differ, different animationclips will be required. Turning head is not independent of the rest of the body.

A single stage's data is like less than 1 MB, compressed.

You really are just talking with nothing but your assumptions as basis, aren't you? I suggest you take a look at the game files and form your conclusions off those rather than making assumptions and going by those.

I didn't say anything about processing power. Delta encoded choreography data won't take 4GB. You yourself said that even in a worse-case scenario, it would only be 10MB per song, and that's with zero delta encoding. As for RAM usage? Well...

iDOLM@STER Arcade ran on a system with a whopping 32MB of RAM. It had multiple choreography tracks. I'm pretty goddamn fucking sure a modern smartphone, even a low-end one, would be able to handle decompressing delta encoded data into RAM in order to render multiple choreography tracks at once.

I will repeat my original claim: There are no technical limitations that would prevent the use of multiple choreography tracks in Starlight Stage.

Not that guy, but not even getting into the rest of that, but that's completely bullshit. Firstly, you won't hardly find a smartphone under 8 gigs of storage. And secondly, you can delete and redownload data as needed in the game, as opposed to a PS2 game where all the data had to be on the disc.

You keep talking about delta compression, but the game is using lz4 compression over anything else because of its speed. The game loads a lot of assets when starting a song, and every single one of them needs to be decompressed on the fly. This fast decompression is why we don't see long loading screens. That's why we don't hear ROADINGU ROADINGU. That's why a song loads pretty much instantly.
The negative side is that with this compression, you can't just make a file out of the difference between two files.
But most people will pick quick loading over small changes to choreography.

This is exactly what won't work for a casual phone game that they need to make accessible to a huge majority of people. People don't just keep their phones for this app alone. They use many, many other apps, a lot that take space. And if this game is very large, only a very few will prioritize it over other apps they use. That will not work for devs or publishers.
Same goes for deleting and redownloading. People can't be arsed. Most will just get rid of the game and be done with it.

Eurobeat was all released, generally, under the "Super Eurobeat," Volumes 1 through over 200, covering like 2 or 3 decades of music.

the Initial D albums are basically just a small selection of the SEB catalog. Definitely get Initial D D Selection, Super Eurobeat Presents Initial D Final D Selection, Disc 2, (this one is a nonstop and it's rad).

Switching to a two-stage compression method for a mere 2-3MB file would barely increase loading times. Delta-encoded data could be stored within the lz4n file. It likely wouldn't even be noticeable at all. I assure you that the majority of loading time isn't spent processing that animationclip file. It's spent loading meshes, textures and shaders. Spending a tiny bit of extra time doing delta decompression of the choreography data wouldn't increase load times by any notable amount. Not even a single second.

the Super Eurobeat label has been going on for a long time; it's an enormous catalog and Initial D samples only a small (very popular) fragment of it.

The only one I can specifically recommend off the top of my head is Super Eurobeat Vol. 182 because it has this track https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WM-VWFbdnE on it. When I listen to eurobeat I either just let however many albums I have play, or I go to Initial D D Selection because that's the soundtrack of First Stage, which I think is my favorite (and some songs recur in later stages).

Keep in mind that the choreography track is already delayed between different characters, so it's not as if all onscreen characters are using the exact same data in each frame. Each character likely already has their own animation data independently stored in RAM, seeing as the game needs to process the data for characters of different heights, etc...
If the developers were really concerned with performance, then why not present options to remove the lighting effects? Shader effects? Simplify the models? Reduce the texture resolution? Remove the crowd? Reduce the physics simulation rate?
Because anon, there's a minimum standard. I'm simply asking that the minimum standard be the one set by iDOLM@STER Arcade a decade ago.

You do realize that phone games in general barely match what was achieved in ps1 games, right? There are some graphically impressive games, sure, but these almost universally play like shit.
And, you may not have realized it yet, but for deresute, the MVs are just a bonus. It's a rhythm game first and foremost. It's great that you can watch something happening in the back while playing, much like more advanced rhythm games on arcades and consoles, but phone rhythm games backgrounds mostly consist of a almost featureless still images.

Hell, if you want to go into the idol rhythm games categories, the simple MVs from deresute come off as a huge jump.
LLSIF only has 2D mode with a picture of the stage, and that doesn't even have 2D sprites of the idols to populate the backgrounds.
T7th has a disk where the portraits go and nothing else.
GFNote on 3D only had one girl at a time, but you can change her outfit so whatever I guess. 2D is the same as SIF.
There are also more of them I forgot the names off, but it's either one 3D girl with huge performance issues on low end phones, or still images.
