No to both.

Yes to all, except to the last one, what's multiplayer?
But don't think, don't wait for a sale, just buy it!
>>
>>147825415
>Is this worth playing now?

Maybe. Depends on your preferences. Most people find the initial honeymoon phase to be extremely compelling, and then it kinda goes south as you encounter the grind. Some people don't hit that wall. Again, preference.

>Is it still extremely grindy?

Yes.

>Is the xpac worth buying?

It extends the honeymoon phase by a few hours, and also gives access to the rest of the season's/year's additions.

>Any interesting addition?

Planetary landings, rovers, engineers. Latter is very grindy.

Later on it will include multicrew, character customisation and ship launched fighters. ETA unknown, as is quality/usability.

Yeah, I have read it before, but I still want to screw around with FSD and thrusters while we wait.

After all, this led me to try mining and feel all those mats drop. I hope they tweak drop rates for rares or reduce their requirement, because Lord Braben knows, I don't want any more carbon.

>>147836887
It's pretty much the same shit car manufacturers put in their cars. How to make that puny 4-cylinder engine sound good? Just play a neat roaring sound through audio system.
>>
>>147841014
It's like they think we're petulant children who are never satisfied with anything. I mean, we are, but that's not relevant here.

The main complaint with the game is and always has been "mile wide inch deep." There's nothing to do except increase your credit balance. There's no way to meaningfully interact with the game world. You can't play with the sand in the sand box.

They KNOW this is the primary criticism in the game, and yet they continue to add new shitty grinds to the game instead of making an attempt to implement some real content, and then act like we should be sucking their dicks like the dads do.
>>
>>147841038
>shit car manufacturers

They're not even the ones doing it. Companies like BMW are actually the biggest offenders of this, even in their high end cars. This from the company that mounts fake exhaust pipes on their cars, and has removed the fucking dipstick from all their new models.
>>
>>147841610
I hope memeing fucks here realise that ftroop are the real babyboomer dads, not those irrelevant fucks on the forums.

The recent band aid patch for engies was enough for Kornelius "Butthurt Belt" Briedis to jump back on ftroops lap and release an apology video where he thanks them for "listening to the community".

Same goes for Obsidian Dad when ftroop half assedly adresses at least 1/100 of his complaints. Also, that cheeky fucker literally conned his fans into buying him a new top shelf PC.

If you want a game where goals are provided and you are told what to do next then elite isn't for you. The ability to blaze your own trail is what I love about this game. After a long day at work dealing with my employees I can just come home and do what I want to do in my cobra mk III. My wife's son used to play with me but lately he remarked about how the game doesn't respect his time. That's alright, he's just too young to understand elite, these millennials after all just don't have the same sensibilities or work ethic us older folks do. I can remember the other day, after losing my cobra from underestimating the gravity of the planet I was going to collect engineer materials from, I petitioned Frontier to restore my ship, because my bank account wasnt quite where it needed to be after buyinh some upgrades for my ship. And I got right back out there. Yes these entitled millennials don't know the true meaning of responsibility and work ethic.

Thanks for listening

>>
>>147861846
How's it best done? Is something like a python or asp as good as it will get, or can you benefit from a larger ship?
>>
>>147862259
Either asp or anaconda because of the jump range.

You can use a python but it will take longer. First grind rep between sothis and ceos, then pick up as much as you can and haul it back to the bubble. Being allied to every group out there I do about 60 mil an hour in my conda.
>>
>>147862567
Could I feasibly do it in a Cutter?
>>
>>147862259
Conda is probably best for the jump range, but I've been using a Cutter with a grade 5 FSD range upgrade, and I can usually get a full load of 20 missions each run. It's like 100 million each time.

The only thing I don't like about the cheap thrustmaster is that the cord between the two parts is too short to mount them to my chair arms, and no way I'm reaching up to my desk all the time. Have heard it's amazing for the price though, and it's cheap enough I'm tempted to get one and just mod the cable.
The x52 pro seems like the best bet to me though, all the newer and more expensive ones sound cheap and shitty. http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x52pro.html
Really wish thrustmaster had something between the $40 one and the $500 one, those two are the only ones my local store carries.

This meme needs to die and stay dead. Using a HOTAS for space sims is counter-intuitive and counter-productive.

You need at least three axes on each hand, in addition to a throttle. The very best throttles on the market have MAYBE two convenient axes. You can kinda get by if you also have pedals, but most people don't bother.

I've only lost one ship to PvP, and it was due to a mistake on my part. Just about knocked out the powerplant of an engineered-up Python with my piracy fit asp, then fucked up/got greedy and let him pull shooting angle on a boost.

Not that I'm hot shit, just don't do all that much PvP.

And some dickhead NPC in a stupidly shielded iEagle keeps dicking with me. Fuck off cunt, I'm trying to shitpost.
>>
>>147887730

Like 10 of them? I've gotten scanned down with a full type-7. 190 of the fucking things. The bounty was high enough that it kept glitching out. It kept getting higher every time I jumped...
>>
>>147888074
Damn son, you stole that many in a Type 7? You're hardcore.
>>
>>147888179

It was risky business. On a followup run I got scanned and killed with another 60 units. I haven't really been able to get the hang of scan evasion with heatsink launchers. Went back to an Asp for safety/speed/jump efficiency.
>>
So silent running stops scans right?
>>
>>147889061

Yes. But not forever. You're not totally unscannable if they are close enough. Your ship also gets hotter which makes you easier to scan.
>>
>>147889216
So silent running plus heatsinks and chaff would make you basically undetectable by NPCs?
>>
>>147889449

No.
They can and will still detect you visually and close with your position.

Chaff just fucks with the automatic targeting of gimbals & turrets. Does nothing to sensors afaik.
>>
>>147889449
>chaff

Does nothing.

>undetectable by NPCs

Not possible. As I said, distance is a factor as well. If they're right next to you they can scan you.

Federal. Fun. Ship.

7 hardpoints. First you buy a large multicannon, a medium multicannon, a medium multicannon, a medium multicannon, a medium multicannon, a small multicannon, and a small multicannon. You equip 6A shields, 4 shield boosters and stuff the internals with SCBs.

Now you overcharge the fuck out of your multicannons to give your enemy even more multicannons to the face, preferably with a nice balance of incendiary and corrosive ammo side effects.

You fly with FAOFF all the time and enjoy doing drifting strafing runs while unloading a horrifying amount of firepower onto some poor puppy.

Enjoy being Arnold Schwarzenegger in space.

Alternatively, you can do so with an Anaconda for even more multicannons. You can also replace your multicannons with frag cannons and watch as your enemy's shields flare up every time you hit them.

you only really need analog axes for pitch + yaw + roll, everything else you can map onto keyboard

An analogue throttle offers far more precise control during FAoff maneuvering.
Of course those who never use FAoff beyond boosting will never notice this, but those who do fly circles around them.

So, how do you do those Sothis runs?
Get a bunch of missions to random systems then fuck about with delivering them all?

Anyone tried exploring the edge of the bubble worlds to see if there is something similar but, perhaps, with more factions, improving the chances of getting a load of missions in a single direction?
>>

>>
>>147913394
>So, how do you do those Sothis runs?
You grind in RES stealing kills from cops with your shitty sidewinder until you get 2-2.5m to get a cobra, fit it for trading and buy a A grade friendship drive.

Then you get to sothis/ceos and stack data delivery mission going back and forth in open/group/solo to grab as much missions as you can in order to increase your local rep.

Then when ~5m+ delivery/smuggling missions start to appear you stack as much missions as you can and get that spess buck.
>>
>>147898184

Both. Choosing a side is completely meaningless.

>>147913059
>I now have to buy non ricer peripherals.

It's 2016 this shouldnt be a thing anymore.
>>
>>147914297
Err, I don't need the very basics. I have my aspie parked there already.

I was asking about the missions appearing part. Do you stack everything or rather stack only one or two destinations?
>>
>>147915380
Depends of the mission type and cargo space. For all the long range delivery missions I did, the destinations weren't far apart from each other, ranging from 20 to 60ly. So I just take as much missions as my cargo can hold.

For smuggling missions I believe the same rule applie and the destinations aren't far appart from each other. But I don't like the constant interdiction spam during the trip so I tend to stick with simple delivery missions and wouldn't stack too much of them if I had no choice.
>>
>>147915380
I only pick based on cargo and payout to squeeze the most I can out of every trip. Though I use my conda so I can take at least 5 at a time depending on how much cargo each has me carry.

Get busted once hauling a T-9 full of slaves through a fed system = 25M fine and become enemy #1 throughout the entire Federation.
>>
>>147809127

Galcop needs to be a faction ran directly by FDev seeing as how they aren't supposed to control any planets, only the space in between.

But that would never happen because it would require FDev to play the game
>>
>>147927413
>but guys, I only smuggled human chattel that one time

>>
>>147849821

>>
>>147929505
I always thought this was super weird. Bounties for murder should be based on the size or insurance of the ship you've killed, imo.

Now imagine if having a large bounty on your head also spawned assassination missions on the mission boards of the factions you've pissed off, so other players can try to claim it.
>>
>>147933053

This isn't supposed to be a fun game, CMDR. It's a space sim first and foremost. That's why you have so many realistic sim elements, like the way pirates infinitely spawn forever in every single asteroid belt in the game, or the way wars are fought at completely arbitrary points in the middle of space for no reason. In true sim fashion, all the markets just automatically reset every so often, and can never be crashed or permanently effected in any way.

A-grade thrusters, especially tuned ones on a cutter can pull you away from anything resembling a threat before they can say 'dad'. and you can get inside of a station wicked quick if you manage your inertia effectively and come in at a considerate angle.

it'll cost you a few extra jumps but the time at the ports could well make it up.

Trading is soul crushing to some no matter what game, but some people enjoy things like that. When Bounty Bay Online was a thing, I played a merchant trading around the Mediterranean. The problem is that there's literally nothing to it in Elite because the universe is static and unchanging. The best trade routes are always around in Empire space, usually A-B-A runs trading slaves and palladium. If the universe was actually dynamic and fluid like they claim it is, then trade routes should shift dramatically constantly, and deplete quickly as more traders find out about them and fulfill the supply/demand quota.
>>
>>147957314
the fact is that i like the game a lot.I like the lore, the science, the feel. i spent 130+ hours then i abandoned it for 4 months, picked it up again and now i'm at 214 hours. but i can't have fun killing shit, trading, or even smuggling without having decent ships, and these cost TONS OF CASH.

the most fun i've ever had in this game was Daramo's war. Shit was fun, met people killed tons of ship, got killed and made like 32 mils between bounties and rewards

>>147957559
you are very correct, this game is really amazing and could be even more entertaining if it was more alive and "thriving" as they claimed it was. the wedding barge are interesting the first 2-3 times you see em, then they get boring.

i've put up with 200+h of Watch_Dogs because i liked the theme, the feel and the city even with its countless bug and technical problems.

if the game is engaging enough, even bad bugs are not that bad to me. but seeing the state of the game, they are doing what to improve?, not even fix,but improve
