Yeah it's totally the same, yelling "WHO ARE YOU GET THE FUCK OUT REEEEEEE" vs "hey I like your stuff, you should stick around and post more, here's some criticism and tips"
>>147752676
telling someone to lurk more =/= telling someone to post more
>>147752420
Most forums don't actually have that and you fell for memes.
You can register sockpuppets if you're genuinely concerned. Plenty of devs from here have had success on FacePunch btw. There's 8ch's /agdg/ which is far less toxic if you absolutely need anonymity.
reposting, hoping for a feedback

showing a simple problem/solution. this is how the player supposed to progress. as you can see black tiles are actully blocking pulling other island etc etc.

>No monogame
So I'm not welcome here?
>>147752984
I don't disagree
but people are gonna go WHODEV GET OUT no matter what so if you want to post shit on agdg just do it
>>147752734
Fine, replace "lurk" with "post bantz and progress"
If someone has been on agdg more than a week they wouldn't be bullied out by someone calling them a whodev andgiving them attention
The only people that are chased out are people that don't understand the general culture, which means they just parachuted in to promote their game. If they're here because they like this place, they'd know how to deal with criticism/whodev accusations
can I sell my game here?

You should consider making some levels when you have to use the homing missiles to destroy some obstacles for you, or levels where there are two submarines and you must use the homing missile to destroy one of them.
>go straight into wall/obstacle(submarine

That's a pretty vague question, I'm sure people draw the line differently.
Is a game trial and error because an enemy killed you with an attack you had never seen before and consequently didn't counter?
Because a room was particularly difficult but you didn't know?
A seemingly inane switch insta-kills you, but this information was available in a book somewhere earlier in the game?

problem is I want ground sensor contacts(because users will be able to modify leg length to enable you to climb steeper slopes), and that hexabot has 3 servos per leg. And it's moving all of them all the time as it's moving. So that means I need to figure out how to update 18 different angles while simultaneously preventing legs from sliding around or clipping through ground or walls. All this while ensuring it's a generic system that can support different leg lengths over uneven terrain.
So most likely I'll oversimplify the system to be pretty much mobile pillars on an underslung rail system with the fortress proper being on another rail system on top of this one, with rotation issues being handwaved away through articulated heels or something.
>>147761832
A learning AI would eventually become too difficult for the player to deal with. They would learn bullshit strategies like hit once and run backwards x 10000.

I've run into a bit of a circular dependency problem that I've had before, and I was wondering of there was a better approach than the one I'm using. Seems like you could have a dungeon object with static methods which take an Actor and what they want to do as an argument. Or you could have the actor handle its own movment and then check a static tile and graph object.

Fixed up my stars. I moved all the vector drawing and color temperature nonsense into a separate program that dumps a texture. Maybe I'll hook it up to my build system just for kicks.
Stuff you can't see: Prototype deserialization is working (again). Offscreen zone persistence is about halfway done. Player input goes through the same logic as AI ships. I worked on cargo bays but they're not included in the ship prototypes yet. When I do have that working, the AI will know about it and use it to prioritize where to go.
I didn't actually notice there was a demo day coming up. I have no intention of rushing for it.

The guy has a point. You people know that right?
If the refresh rate is 60 fps either the animation will speed up (given that you eg have 24 frames of handrawn animation and execute them in 0.3 instead of 0.8 seconds with 30fps) or it does exactly nothing (if you spread the 24 frames across the 60 it is the same result as if you spread them across 30)

>>147769324
>or it does exactly nothing
From an animation standpoint, this is desirable. The idea is for it to be able to react faster because there are 60 points per second at which things can happen instead of 30.
>>147759392
Your game looks fine familia, keep up the good work.
>>147769578
Nice argument.
If the game in question uses handdrawn animation the guy is right and you are collectively incompetent.
>>147769858
If you made an 8fps animation would you run the entire game at 8fps you retard?
>>147759816
How do you make those graphics? I'm looking to make somewhat simple graphics for my game, kinda like yours.
Would anyone like to collaborate with me on a game? I'm a musicfag and I also do the character design.
It would be a puzzle strategy RPG. Basically, the battle system goes like this: you can choose a set of commands to use for each battle (like in Megaman battle network). There are many playable characters who join your party throughout the game, and each has a different set of commands available. The enemy also has a set of commands, though.
Here's the catch: your selection is random. Well, kinda. The game is kinda like minesweeper in that you can choose one block each turn, and it's only revealed to you what it is after you choose. There is an indicator on each row on how many of your commands there are (blue) and how many of the enemy's (red). Pic related is an example of how it'd work (I didn't check if my example was mathematically possible. I'd have the computer make up the grids in the actual game.)
There are, of course, more typical RPG elements such as a health bar, damage, and levels. Also there's gonna be quite an in-depth story.
...any takers? My skype is pl4ntm4n
>>147769935
No but the guy was clearly refering to smoother animation. Sure you can run it on 60fps but it doesnt do shit animationwise. For the transforms of objects perhaps but the guy was talking animations.

Spiderweb Software is one dude and his wife. He makes the games, she manages the websites and advertising and such. I believe he hires out for sound effects and music, and might hire artists nowadays (though I'm not sure about that last bit).
His games are fairly large RPGs set in a full, complex world with multiple races who have their own cultures. They tend to be pretty fun and challenging, with an engaging story.
To be honest, I'm pretty fucking impressed.

I have solved the problem by making the Dungeon and the Scene distinct. An actor always needs to know what dungeon it is in, but a dungeon does not need to know about its occupants. Yeah, I do it because there's really no such thing as normal. There's just the habits you've picked up that you no longer think about.
The other day I heard about someone who had one of these knife blocks. They'd take the knives out, cut up meat and vegetables, and put the knives back in without washing them. They washed all their other dishes. It apparently never occurred to them to wash their knives as well.

I want to get into game design including participating in its sound, art, programming, but I have no programming knowledge. How does one get into game development, especially with a game concept ready to be executed? Should I leave the project I have in mind and try to make games on popular engines that require less skill? How can I even practice?
So many questions to be asked and I don't know many places to ask all these. I want to be a designer of a game, not only for money but for passion of creating something that someone can play and admire.

go for something more general, even if you instead choose to do media courses or w/e
video games are a very narrow field and not worth getting a low-tier degree in
it's a fun field to study but a bachelors of game design is not exactly useful compared to one in comp sci or new media or even communications or w/e
also "game design" is a meme phrase, there are a LOT of things that go into a game, so much so that it's foolish to say one person can handle them all for anything larger than a pixel platformer (and even then, there's a lot of outsourcing typically)

Do we become indie forever? Or is it possible for SOME company to actually recruit you?
>>147778658
Companies literally only care about a portfolio.
Popular engines are fairly easy to use, just read the manual and google how to do the stuff you want.
Im jumping ship from Unity to Gamemaker.
I just have no idea what to make.
My end goal is to make some cash and hopefully make it a viable buisness.
Should I make a platformer, or should I make something wtih mass appeal (something along the lines of puzzle bobble type of thing)
>>147778658
I guarantee almost no game company will care about your diploma in game design/programming. Computer Science might be a bit better.
The most important thing you need is experience, make lots of prototype games, try to make a full game and release it, even if it's free. Show them that you can make and design fun games.

If you want a job at a company, you need to specialize in one thing. If you want to be a level designer, you need to make maps for Doom or TF2 or something. Being able to model, draw, or program will not help you get a job in level design in any way. If you want to be a programmer, showing them some cool particle effects you made in Maya won't help either. Pick 1 thing and get good at it.

maybe i'm underestimating the difficulty of an emt simulator, but it doesn't seem that difficult. the way i would implement it is to have the game broken into two segments.
the first segment is composed of survivng traffic. you control an ambulance and must dodge randomly spawning cars until you reach the destination.
the second segment is composed of administering cpr. you click a certain number of times or press the right combination of keys before time runs out to resuscitate the npc(s).
as time goes on, just ramp up the difficulty.

If you want to make your own games, that's true. If you want a job at a company that makes games, it's not. If you get hired as a modeler you will literally never do any level design. You might not even do materials or animations depending on how big the company is.

no it doesn't, top down refers to all games where the camera is placed above the action
isometric is a specific kind of top down, what you're referring to has no formal name, although it technically is orthographic at 90 degrees
I'd like to call it "perfect" top down, because it's perfectly flat, like a kindergarten drawing

write novels/screenplays develop hot IP become famous writer get sucked off by publishing/studio executives attract AAA game company to your IP and demand complete creative control over the themes, characters, and lore of game while other people make it pretty and functional.
also, powerball and megamillions is up there
seriously, if you want to fucking write just write. the good thing about writing is you don't need a fucking engine or art or any of that bullshit.

I'll be able to post muh demo tho

if that's true that's why 99% of games have shit writing. no other writing medium places seniority over talent
>>147794837
The real reason is the autistic enginedevs who run almost all studios can't tell the difference between fan fic tier shit and actual good writing
Would a Wall Street (the 1987 movie) type game be fun? How would you make it fun without having it be actual day trading?
>>147793678
that looks pretty decent, and definitely more appealing than before
I still don't get why it's a knight jumping pillars, of all things
>>147775159
I'm sure the tabletop industry, while more of a niche, has positions like that. Maybe try leaning more on the /tg/ side of things for a while?

you should also keep your vowels to a minimum as they require more bits.
you should also make sure all floating point values begin and end with at least 1 zero (although I recommend 3) this helps curb precision wrap-around errors as the zeros work as a buffer.
>>147795062
there's a game like this which uses a hex based tile laying mechanic to simulate a company
http://ludumdare.com/compo/ludum-dare-34/?action=preview&uid=7862
there's a lot of options
Does your engine have scripting?

The blue guy doesn't like it.
>>147795098
Well it was originally a mobile game so I wanted something simple and easy, with a bit of challenge (timing the jumps). Now that it's on PC though , I'm hoping that a few extra mechanics (mainly obstacles) and 2 different themed levels will be enough to make it good enough to be sold on steam for a buck or two.
Of course I'm always open to ideas

how much of your furniture do you really need?
UE4 feels like a brick wall.
Everything is so "advanced" and complicated, I feel like I'm never learning anything and the quality bar is set so high that everything I do will look terrible because of all the built-in juice which forces you to try hard and not just do lowpoly shit.
>>147795825
>when u try to hi 5 ur buddy but he phases into a different dimension
>>147796059
just do low poly shit then senpai

just use Infinity Blade assets
it's not that advanced if you just focus on one thing at a time though. just gotta break it down into small enough pieces (except materials, I still have no clue how water and stuff works).

GM is the pothead friend. Super easy to get along with and doesn't demand anything, but he isn't particularly bright.
Unity is that co-worker who tries to be friendly but is kind of a dick sometimes, smart and serviceable but prefers to do things his way.
UE4 is a fucking sergeant who tortures you verbally if you take 1 second too long to get out of bed, but he only does it because he wants you to a strong person.
