Having 1 armor ring on you is usually recommended, unless you're really hardcore at dodging stuff.
Some spells like the Triple point Barrier was meant for co-op among multiple players, so even if they can't work well in single player give them a chance later if you go into multiplayer.

I think it completely goes about difficulty in the wrong way but that notwithstanding EV takes some baby steps forward IMO. I like the delay after combos because it suggests more careful use of your attacks - you can spam square if you want, just be okay with being wide open for 2 seconds every time you finish a combo. And while it's not much in the grand scheme of things, looking for shrines suggests level exploration and accessibility on ANY level beyond the completely linear hallways of previous games, that is something I'd love to see expanded upon in future SK games. Then there's new mechanics like wall running, bombshells and puppets which are neat in their own way - nothing as cool as SV introducing blocks and parries but it's still something. At this rate though, we'll probably get a legitimately strong SK title in time. Each game so far has been a little additive to the general formula.
