Matchmaking is non existent in this game. It's so lazy it's pathetic.
I think they treat new players as new players until they get one or two legendary cards in their deck and have about 50-100 games behind them or something, because I never play people who are clearly new in ranked. Yet I know people who started, netdecked a mage build and got to rank 15 in only two weeks of playing.
My winrate is low, I'm not a great player but I'm definitely not the worst, I don't copy decks and I try to be a bit imaginative. I can understand not getting past rank 18 with the way I play and the cards I have but I can't imagine not being able to get past rank 20, at the same time facing people with decks and card backs that would be reminiscent of rank 10 and above, at the least.

I don`t think I follow. This is actually designed to be better than Cairne, since it`s a class card. It costs one mana more than Cairne, has a bigger body (6/6 instead of 4/5) and the second body has a powerful Inspire effect that requires immediate answers from your opponent.

Malkorok: you may sub him for a Gorehowl but personally I'd go with some quality 6-7 drop minion like Sylvanas, Cairne or the new Hogger. Obviously is not wrong to use Gorehowl to set up lethal, it depends.
