A lot of guides will tell you to just scatter traps all around the LZ south of Masa Village where you first arrive at Africa, but personally it never worked for me.
What you gotta do is set them at the LZ in between Masa Village and Mfinda Oilfield. Just put them all in one spot and toss a bait bottle on them. Also don't set the cages in the water. I got it on my first try doing this.

I don't get it, MGS4 didn't feel like an MGS game to me, it tried so hard to imitate the other games, taking the sound effects and layout, but put you in a situation where that kind of gameplay doesn't work. The game is inherently flawed because the gameplay completely clashes with the surroundings you're put in. I've been playing for hours, trying to see what people enjoyed about it, but I just couldn't, I'm sorry guys.
Meanwhile portable ops hooked me in the first five minutes of playing after playing the mess that was guns of the patriots, because at least portable ops felt like an MGS game and I enjoyed the plot which was naturally placed out instead of 20 minute cutscenes, but even the custscenes in mgs1 where bearable at least.

I only infiltrate sniper fobs. It's easier given my play style (staying on deck and frog hoping across). I can clear one in five minutes.
However, free placed mines and cameras are a pain in the ass. I just stick with level 50 and below.
