Neato. I've always loved those upside-down refueling towers/docks/etc.
Nu FtD update just came in, radar shit is on, it's inside the AI tab. New radar things are:
>Acoustic sensor
It hears incoming things.
>General purpose processing card
The more of these you have, the more information you can process
>IR Camera
It's like the cameras we had until know, but these one detects heat
>LUA Snooper
Detects if enemy shit is using LUA Boxes based on it's reaction times
>Passive Radar
Detects enemy active radars and locates them
>Passive Sonar
Detects enemy active sonars and locates them
>Sonar
Pings and detects enemy boats, subs and other underwater shit
>Tracking computer
It's like the AI mainframe of the detection systems
>Wireless snoopers
Detects enemy wireless comunications and uses them to download dolphin porn
>Radar system (the old radar block)
Detects shit above the water if it has a direct line of sight
>Retroflection sensor (360 degrees) (the old laser radar thingy)
It does the same as before, but they can't detect you when you use it, unlike sonars
>Tracker (laser)
It does the same as before, it's a laser rangefinder
>Pic not related
I got bored and continued my work in whomp's fortress
>>147552710
Forgot to mention that the old cameras, if given AI mainframe connection, will give automatic detection of targets
>>147552710
>>147552873
In editor, on top of being able to see heat visibility, you can now cycle all the detection ranges like visible, radar, sonar and wireless snoop.

I can't wait for human drivers to be a thing of the past.
Glass angle blocks need to be a thing. Corner blocks would be nice too.
>>147559762
Because Nick has demonstrated over the last few updates that he has a fetish for critically important but highly fragile parts that have to be mounted in vulnerable external locations.
This adds a fuckton of such parts, and instead of just being needed to not die to lasers/missiles/CRAMS they're going to be needed to shoot.
I asfuckingsure you, there will be a period before he unfucks himself wherein the most common outcome of a fight will be both ships steaming off blindly into the distance because they each destroyed the others detection gear in the first few salvos.

Nothing to do with goannas, just some drunk Russians attempt to weld a fence together out of whatever they could find. Very vaguely engineering related.

you can still have fun in advanced flight
in the difficulty options you can turn off stress damage.
In advanced flight, you can make much harder landings without exploding, and you have more control. It's also much easier to autorotate
>>147564779
I finished the REMo and getting it ready, download link, putting on the website, readme, etc. And muzzled was working on the REMcast and SoG, but he fell asleep at his keyboard...
>>147565672
I think you can make rolling landings way easier too?
seems like it only has real niche uses and is way too fragile
>>147565518
Only a thousand more magazines to go. Joy.
>>147565581
Noted. Any way to get rid of pollution?
>>147565948
Not really. You kinda just have to use more eco stuff like solar panels and accumlators, but the power output is pretty low. I guess save up to make a solar farm.
>>147565948
you can't directly get rid of pollution per-se, but certain objects on the map and turfs absorb it
most notably each tree takes in a bit of it which is why its more beneficial to have trees around if you don't want the ayys to smell your industry. Grass tiles help a little and water tiles consume a ton so its difficult for pollution to float over bigger waterways. Bug bases also notably take in a fucking ton of pollution I think in an effort to prevent it from spreading to multiple bases down the same lane to encourage you to take out close bases that attacks are constantly coming from.

Considering that it SEEMS to have :
>A degree of actual engineering
>Multiplayer

CUTE
>>147570036
No.
The engineering is extremely basic and does not involve any problem-solving to accomplish set objectives.
The multiplayer might as well not exist given the horrible netcode.
The graphics are iffy at best, and there's no components that allow for aesthetically pleasing creations.
>>147570036

>Pure submarine /egg/ game when
Fucking want. I have a typical fear of the ocean, and games like Subnautic are the only games I find scary but still enjoy. I would love a game where you have to engineer your sub to your own purposes while exploring and surviving in the unknown depths. A game where you have to choose between stuff like a glass cockpit that allows greater visibility of threats, but can take damage easily and cause you to drown in your sub, or going with a completely metal cockpit and relying on sensors to give you info on the unknown threats you will never see that occasionally swarm your tank-like hull.
But until we have the scary /egg/ sub game of my dreams, there's SubCommander, it's a fun little sim.
>>147582797
What else are you going to use to grab play testers / gain interest? As others have pointed out /egg/ is ded and there's only like 100 unique people here per thread, of which maybe 30 will play REMo and then maybe 10 will give feedback.

>>147583549
More than enough for right now. There's a whole lot of things that really turn normies off right now. Such as the total lack of sound and the somewhat sketchy means of distribution and advanced concepts. 10 really good autist builders telling me why my game is shit is way better than 10 thousand shitters complaining about the art design or what the fuck ever. In the future, Reddit, Imgur, Twitter, ect are going to be used to reach more people.
>>147583549
That might be a good thing if you think about it.Someof us know our shit when it comes to what makes a buildan game fun. I don't mind keeping REM away from the normie masses until its more fleshed out
>>147583029
Sub-centric FtD update might actually make that a thing.
I'm leaving for work in an hour, but once the REM demo comes out I want to test:
-Making multiple layers of armour
-Making thick grids of struts so taking damage only shaves off small parts of a ship at a time
-Making a ship shaped like a hollow tube with maximum dakka inside, surrounded by thick armor
-RAMMING CRAFTS
>>147585118
I wanna test how big I can make something before it lags to shit
>>147584085
Except no first person requirement and no scary stuff at all. What I want is a permadeath highly customizable Subnautica with more darkness and eldritch horrors. I want it to be as much about the mechanical workings of the submarine as it is about your player character and how you react to events and read-outs.
I would really love a game where you just play as a guy on a sub, and you have to take in cues from your surroundings and your sensors in order to make the best survival decisions.
>Slowly moving across the sea floor in your window-less mining sub, scanning for rare resources in a hydrothermal area
>Moving slowly without sonar in order to avoid attention
>Sub bumps into something, and keeps getting nudged around
>Could just be a forest of heat-consuming kelp that your submarine has become tangled up in.
>Could be undersea vents moving your ship, if so, study your temperature gauges to make sure there isn't an imminent eruption coming
>Could be a giant curious magma-wyrm, nudging the strange shiny bauble that has entered it's breeding grounds. Either slowly exit the area and play it safe, or turn on your sonar to confirm your suspicions, but risk angering whatever may be there.
I really want more games with a FTL-esque choice system, where you can play it safe or you can be quick and risky.
>>147585118
>-Making multiple layers of armour
Works bretty good, if done okay.
>-Making thick grids of struts so taking damage only shaves off small parts of a ship at a time

>>147585242

The part count limiter should keep you from adding too many bits to lag the game too horrifically, you should be able to make a ship as large as you wish with panels and struts, provided you stretch them out.

All I can tell you is to try restarting until it works or loading in a different vessel. No idea why it might not be loading properly, it works just fine on our machines, even when downloaded and played from the link.
Are you extracting everything into the same folder and playing on the correct client?

We're going to try to export a 32 bit version.
Could you both try to create a new save with just the cockpit and try loading that instead? It might be the ships that are the problem.

Guns and all.
>>147592517
Its working on some hardware, and not on others for no reason. Just tested it on my secondary media PC running win10, and it seems to be totally randomly crashing.
It might have something to do with the load times of slower machines.
>>147592941
I wonder what happens if I move it off my SSD and on to my HDD

infinite loadscreen is a known bug, that happens when you dont have a ship loaded with a cockpit in the builder

REM aka shitty besiege, machinecraft and apparently world of tanks - build a spacetank edition.
>>147595285
Bretty close.
So what's up with the keybinding? I press 0, left click and hold on a thruster and press (in this case a and d) and after I save and test, w still causes all thrusters to fire. Is there a binding trick I'm missing?
>REM released
>it's DOA
why does clang do this
>>147595431
try it again and save again, its a know problem that we will be adressing in the future
>>147595431
turning thrusters are mouse controlled, i think.
to set them to that you have to use the arrow keys, the opposite of what direction the truster is facing.
roll is q and e
vertical is shift and ctrl for up and down respectively.
>>147595548
The most frustrating part is that only some computers can't seem to run it. We have almost no clue why. Working on it.
Hype anon here, at work now. I opened REM on fastest settings since my computer is shit, loaded the default craft and started the game. It crashed once and then worked fine and I can fly around, shoot + ram into walls with zero crashes or fps issues.
I'll try figuring out the builder soon...
Big QoL to the builder.
Shift and CTRL to control Y-axis relative to grid instead of based on your orientation.
Symmetry.
Grid/Part highlighter on what you're targeting.
Some 0, 0, 0 coordinate like Machinecraft does so you can measure things easier or scale your designs easier at least and make the grid's height level easier to recognize.
>>147595841
yep, we are planning those things, still in develpment
woops, I dropped my marbles! help me pick them up /egg/
This seems to happen when building a panel and selecting empty space for one of corners.

PSA: RUNNING REM IN ADMINISTRATOR MODE REMEDIES LOADING ISSUES TO SOME EXTENT

SHOOTING MIGHT STILL BREAK IT
IDUNNO FIXES SOON
>>147596093
Well basically I was paneling the side of my craft, I miss-clicked and hit empty space with one of the green corner highlighter things. It was the third one so usually you would see that preview of the panel but I didn't get that, or anything, anyways I couldn't delete it or cancel the panel and an attempt to complete the panel failed.
>>147595990
I happened to have the same issue.
Accidentally started placing panels, pressed 2 to switch back to struts while I had two panel spots selected. Now getting the same thing as you.
You are mistaken in your hypothesis, you can freely place panels in space with nothing else attached, or freely place them without struts surrounding them. No idea how thy hold up in motion, but you can place them in the builder without trouble.
How are you guys placing struts on things? In my game I can only place struts on the grid horizontally.
Also, my installation came without the readme for some reason so I'm totally lost
>>147596410
>>147596513
Ahh, ok, yeah thats a bug that we know about, the first explanation of it confuzed me, it will be fixed int he next patch

They wouldn't even have to make the suspension/tracks complicated or have different suspension systems.
These directions relate to keyboard arrows.
building anything off center on the grid causes it to spawn off center in the arena (inside a wall).
199 medium and large engine pieces make my GPU squeal and cause the game to lag (while they are in view only)

>>147597492
By my honor it shall be done.
I'm starting to figure out the builder. Everything feels nice to use but making things symmetrical is a bitch. I know thats a future feature so I won't complain too much.
I have the ramming blade made so far. I'll armor it all up and then figure out how to make this thing move ridiculously fast.

new EDEN editor for arma 3, released fairly recently
Hype anon here. I keep accidentally deleting armour plates while trying to position my jet engines.
What if armor plates could only be removed while having armor selected?
>>147599324
That's planned. The ability to remove 'layers' of a ship as if the builder was photoshop is going to be in soon(tm) enough.
>>147599324
we are planning to have a "layer" system in the future, like you would have in photoshop
>>147599383
>>147599404
That sound pretty nice.
It was hard as hell to figure out, but the ramship is somewhat flyable. I'll see if I can record a video of it ramming the Muzzle's Vessel... if I can figure out how to spawn a ship that isn't my own in the flight test room
>>147600685

Annnd you're done!
>>147600778
Excellent. I'm just getting webm stuff sorted out.
I grossly overestimated how much speed it took to obliterate things. Rams are definitely effective here but I feel like durability could be a bit higher. Either that, or it should be a lot harder to go 3 trillion miles an hour like my ramship does with just two medium engines.
I'll post again SOON with ramming goodness
>>147601493
Worth noting that part balancing literally doesn't exist yet. Good to see you're succeeding though. Working on my own silly build.
>>147574713
/kspg/ not welcome here
So I'm the same guy who made the shitty prebuilt factory with loops yesterday. This look any better? I've got everything isolated, no loops, one type per side, etc. etc., and relatively expandable (down).
>>147602304
Much, much better.
Now next time you only have to account the fact that you'll probably want to expand those things soon, and it'll be awesome.
>>147602304

>>147601592
Never mind my ram ship is awful;_;
>>147602664
You're going enough fast, but you need to aim better. I suggest a second set of maneuvering thrusters on the back, bound in reverse to the forward ones.
>>147602734
Yeah, I just realized in the AI cam that I barely clipped the enemy ship's side. After a few more tries I managed to score a direct hit, and my ramship simply exploded and only took a small chunk out of its target.
Muzzled's ship is just built a lot better. I might try another ram ship in the future when I know how to make sturdier things.
I'll try and work on some super armor and let the AI shoot me to test my ideas out next.
>>147603216
I'd suggest ripping the armor off of Muzzled's ship and checking out how the struts are built. You might learn a lot.
After building some more, here's some more suggestions for the buildan menu's quality of life:
The tip of struts that are on the current grid level could be highlighted a bit to make it easier to tell you're on the right plane.
I would love an easier way of armoring the ship. It's super time consuming, and it'll be even harder once we need to build around engines and stuff.
AN UNDO BUTTON
For the most part though I'm enjoying myself with this, even if I'm awful at it
>>147604231
All features except
>The tip of struts that are on the current grid level could be highlighted
Are planned for future versions. Glad you're having fun with it. We actually plan to have the ability to click and drag a box over the vessel to auto-armor it, the allow the player to go back and fine tune it. Undo button is critical, and symmetry will help with the time consumption to an extent.
/egg/, how do I stick any of these anywhere? I can't stick barrels on it and I don't know where to pipe it. I'm trying to make plastic.
>>147604647
Never mind, found the chemical plant and made one of those.
>>147604647
have the pumpjacks connect to a storage tank and then a storage tank (or more) for each output, as the refinery will not produce anything if any of the outputs are unavailable (not connected, full pipeline, or full storage tank)
I'm having trouble setting up bindings for thrusters, no matter what they seem to bind to W which is pretty useless since I press it and everything happens. I'm selecting the select tool and then left clicking and holding while pressing the key I want it to activate with, no luck.
>>147605228
Its a known bug and we're resolving it soon(tm). If nothing works, try saving your work and restarting the game. Load your vessel back and try again. If all else fails just spam bind them to whatever you're trying to bind, remember to save it with the 'save' button, then go into the flight test. Should work fine eventually.
>>147560226
Or you spam metric fuctons of shields over every sensor.
So, once again, he's buffed huge gargantuan pieces of play to win shit ships whilst nerfing tiny ones.
>>147605698
>Nick changes sensors so shields block them
Problem solved! :^)
>>147605807
That would be a fucking wonderful thing, though. Less overshielded monstrosities, the better.
Things could be very simply solved by adding an "integrated" hull sensor with a small FOV that has high health, high armor and can't rotate its view.
tfw loving this ship design for how angled the armor is, but pressing a button in the flight test mode makes boosters explode off of the ship
It sucks not being able to tell what engines have keybinds on them and which ones don't. Life is suffering
>>147606839
More reinforcement is probably necessary.
>>147607462
Yeah. As usual it was my fault but I figured it out after some dicking around.
Thanks everybody for participating in the release of the REMO, rocky as it was. Looking forward to seeing what you guys make in the long run and the short. It is worth noting the damage code won't be quite so devastatingly severe in damaging ships as it is now, given that the projectiles are heavy little pellets flying at the speed of stupid instead of having any actual penetrative properties or applying 'damage' to anything at all.
Punching modules out of ships and all that.

It's weird that I'm one of the only people who have zero issues with the game.
Speaking of which, TOP TIER SHIP DESIGN
It's slow and hard to aim but the intense angling on this ship makes it pretty much unkillable if Im facing my opponent, unless they hit me dead center. 5 shots at once blows chunks out of Muzzled's ship if I can hit it
I know its months from now but I'm already hyped for multiplayer.

Don't bother with that shit yet.
Just once in a while, stop up and consider the numbers you're dealing with.
You've got 3 T1 Assemblers, each crafting at half speed.
If they're fully supplied, they'll produce two belts per second EACH.
Now do a quick estimate of average belts used per second (last few minutes, and over the course of your game).
I've got a need for steel and gears on the same belt instead of iron and gears. Any idea how I would "replace" the iron with the steel? What I've currently got isn't working.
>>147648049
I'll do that next time around, I guess. Is there any real reason to not have all the belts backed up to the max if they've only got one type of object on them?
>>147648598
> Any idea how I would "replace" the iron with the steel?
From iron/gear belt, filter off the iron lane (https://wiki.factorio.com/images/Mpstark-ANwfZsj.gif), then add steel to the now empty lane.
>Is there any real reason to not have all the belts backed up to the max if they've only got one type of object on them?
For the most part, no. One could argue that it's wasted materials, although I'd personally be more worried about forgetting limits on storage chests.
>>147649123
Alright, thanks.

Cyclic Redundancy Check. It's basically a hash used to detect if something's been modified incorrectly. Most frequently used in packets sent over the network to see if your shitty 56K corrupted them.

This.
Improperly setting storage limits on a chest that's feeding a turret from an ammo belt line will end up strangling any further turret from getting ammo. RIP defenses.
>>147650558

>>147651507

>>147651739

>>147650987
The laser turret does have better range than the ballistics turret, but it deals less damage even when fully upgraded, as well as a few other balance points.
The new flamethrower turrets have the obvious drawback of non-tracking projectiles, and a minimum range, but deal awsome damage against a prolonged attack.
Ideally you'd want all 3 turret types, with ballistic in front, laser in the middle, and flame turret in the rear. The defensive wall should definitely be as close to the minimum range of the flame turret as possible, and obviously supplied with construction robots for repair/replacement and logistics robots for ammo delivery.

I removed the gun and added a spike on the front and some extra forward engines, I've been trying to disable the AI ship for an hour now.

At least my oil production is designed well enough to be both expandable and capable of storing high quantities, not that I'll ever need it because I don't really use that much. Can't wait until I've finished research and can simply remove all the science production in favor of a single rocket launching factory.

I highly recommend setting oil to very low frequency but have larger patches. It's annoying when I've got to run pipes to every single one segment patch, much easier when they spawn 20 or so in a bunch even if I rarely see them.

the one with the biggest number obviously.
don't you know how to count?
The REMo has a bug, it locks the controls (mouse to look around and wasd shift-control) when you press select (0), hold right mouse button on an object, and press the left mouse button to delete the object.
Once the object is deleted, the player will be stuck, but if you press space the mouse will be free and you can press the buttons above, so you can save, then you can press F to get in the arena and come out, it will fix the issue.

That was fast.
By the way I hope you're planning to add a more complete binding for thrusters, many could work with two buttons (like up down can also roll the ship sideways). Some menu like space engineers, where you can make groups of thrusters and then bind that group to a key, and putting a thruster in many groups would make it answer to more keys.
Also a way to disable the onboard AI trying to align the ship to the pointer, switching to a simplified mouse control over the numpad or on the arrows, sometimes the vessel is still functional and can be piloted but the auto aligning makes it spin over and over, and keeping the button pressed is boring.
Just my two cents, btw pretty nice work till now.

We plan to have those things as quality of life features, but the resource system and damage code needs to go in first.
I'll toss together a trello we can refer back to. As for disabling the PID thruster control, you can hold right click. The plan for later is to allow key presses to do register, but for now it turns off all thrusters.

They fucked up most of the scripts i had on ships and in my baserunner.

>>147727425
Im not a scripter, i use automatic LCDs and automation script.
The only solution i found, and its still broken is to put 2 timers in a constant loop wich sets the "add wheel" for the "all wheels" group every half second.
But if you want to copypaste that with the timer running will crash the game.
but at least with that, i can save the baserunner from sinking into the ground because the small wheels facing down will reapear before they touch the ground.

Changing out the landing pad on top for other equipment or module without bumpers or even one with a ramp because by now your probably finding that they don't meet every task. Correct?
Or are you using them as mobile bases in which and using smaller trucks for specific tasks in which case my point still stands to some degree.

If you can find the older threads you may find them.
>>147734374
Yes, i build it as a mobile base.
Here is a pic of the rear.
I has space for the cargo truck, a miner, a welder-grinder small ship and a fighter, but im about to change that for something less clangy.
the middle section has 2 refineries, 2 arch furnace and like 4 assemblers, all with eficiency and efectiveness upgrades.
Its still fucked up because the cargo containers are on the sides, and ingots go on one side, and make the whole thing twist because of the weight.
I need to rebuild the middle section to center the weight.
>trying to build an actual helicopter in Machinecraft
>discovered the existence of swashplate
This is going to be much harder than I anticipated.
>>147734881
Hmmm. Is there locks for the wheels? I haven't played space engineers since they just added wheels.
>>147735349
Now as for efficiency, How about designing the systems then building the shell?
I tend to find when designing crap that its easier to build everything that it will need then make small adjustments to the shell to keep everything looking correct.
>>147735562
No, you just put the handbrake, but the wheels still move if the force is enough to move them, they dont actually lock.
>>147735562
I wanted to keep the original shape as far as i could, had to make some adjustments if you compare it to the older try.
Would be totally different if i made it that way.
Here is a glance of the clusterfuck that is the middle section, there was more assemblers than i thoug.
Also shows some of the fucked up scripts on the screens, wich are static text now.

Concrete is the only one, uses raw iron

There's nothing wrong with resources stacking up. It's a signal that tells you you need to add more consumers of that resource.

I could potentially see storing a bunch of ore if you plan on expanding mining before expanding smelting

But that's unneeded. Resources don't "go bad", there's no time you have to use them by, so you don't need to recirculate them.
What you DO need to do is have your machines pick up as close to the end of the belt as possible - if not THE end of the belt - if you're so concerned about "unused" resources.
