You don't have to worry too much about when to reclass in Awakening since Second Seals reset your level to 1, which means you can level up indefinitely. So you just reclass for whatever skills you want.

I think it may be harder to write a compelling story because of the time it takes place in. This is almost medieval-type technology from long ago, the lands of kings and dragons and other things. I played Metal Gear, and found it's story very compelling because it dealt with very modern issues I could relate to. Fire Emblem doesn't have this advantage, so it's kind of hard for people to relate to with its antiquated technology. It's not impossible, but it's much more difficult.

The plots of the majority of FEs were always decent enough though, like they were usually nothing special but they had enough going on to generate some intrigue at the very least.
The worlds they took place in were generally pretty interesting and had a good amount of backstory too, unlike Fatesland (the continent doesn't even have a name by the way) which is so shallow and unexplored, and any possible time these issues can be remedied are practically scoffed at. Like seriously, what even is the backstory of Fatesland exactly past "uhhh there was a war and shit and dragons existed once"? And don't even get me started on the fucking Outrealms garbage, fuck Awakening for introducing that cancer to the series.
I mean, I actually like some of the characters; I liked the Nohr Royals and Gunter and a few others. But fuck, Fates is like a textbook on how NOT to handle worldbuilding in a story.

It all depends on when the right person comes along and recognizes an opening. It was fairly easy to help bring shitdog back for example, because we have a poster here who regularly whines about Velouria's characterization being disappointing to him, so it's pretty easy to use that as a starting point and snowball it from there. People latch on to these things real quick here, but you have to recognize when conditions are right.

Well you need to slap Keaton on somebody quickly in order to make good use of Velouria, so pick one between Camilla, Mozu, or Effie. Sophie can do great with one of them as well but since Silas comes earlier you might want to decide his first since Sophie's paralogue can also be used to rake in supports/experience.
Also to get Ophelia you have to use Odin for a while, there's just no way around it since your main choices for his mom are mostly going to be healing and barely scraping support points with him as is.
Kaze can give Xander good boosts and vice versa in pair up and you can switch between them depending on what your enemy throws at you if you're really strapped on not giving him Selena.
