>>147389214
It's actually the worst port in the entire series. The world models and textures look like total shit, the music sounds like ass and is midi as opposed to MP3, and not even the re-release has analog and vibration support. Also has the same 15 fps menus as seen in FF7, where they were 60 in the PS1 versions. No amount of modding will make it on-par with the original.

I doubt you've played it.

Why is Dolphin less demanding than the PS2 emulator?

My shitty laptop can handle Dolphin easily but needs all kinds of edits and patches to moderately run SOME PS2 games. I can run RE4 GC and RE4 Wii edition fine, but can't run RE4 PS2 edition well.
>>
>>147391754
PS2 emulation is a mess. That's about it, really.
>>
>>147389858
It was the first version I played. The music's pretty much the only issue of note.

The world models and textures look like "total shit" because they *always* looked like that. You can turn off texture filtering if you're that desperate to have it look like a PS1 game sans polygon jitter.

Doesn't affect the fact that a huge part of the game's appeal comes from its FMVs- and they're at double the resolution in the Windows release.

Does anyone have any experience with DS emulation in RetroArch? Whenever I play a game I get slow down and sound crackiling issues. I don't have this issue while running standalone DeSmuME after switching the sound settings to Sync Method P. But can find this setting in RetroArch. I'm not really sure why I'm getting this problem. When I first installed RetroArch and played around it with it, it was fine. And I have a pretty decent PC. I'm running a 970 with a i5 6600k. Surely I should be able to run a DS game?

Here's my specs, OS is Win 10, and emulator is RetroArch 1.3.4 running DeSmuME. I've tried increasing the audio latency in Retroarch, but no luck.
>>
>>147402934
>>147403354
The libretro port of DeSmeME was never finished, you're much better off using standalone.
>>
That's a shame. I really like the convenience of using RetroArch. I guess I'll stick with the standalone for the DS then. Thanks.
>>
>>147403354
>after switching the sound settings to Sync Method P.

This settings was removed because it's not applicable. Only synchronous audio is supported in libretro.

Anyway, it's working fine for me with the JIT enabled and the Load Game into Memory option enabled.

>>147403439
>never finished

What the fuck are you talking about? Only thing not finished is the OpenGL renderer.
>>
>>147404138
>What the fuck are you talking about?
OpenGL renderer.
>>
>>147404138
No luck. Even with both of those options, it's still lagging and making crackling sounds. I'm not sure what caused this to happen, as it worked fine when I first installed RetroArch.

>>
>>147403439

See, this is the kind or garbage software development that I see all the time on the internet, and it bugs the high holy fuck out of me.

Why do a core for DESMUME at all if you're not gonna do it right? If you've no intention of finishing or maintaining it, why not let your users know by marking it as "abandoned" or whatever the fuck?

I swear, it's like having a sense of responsibility or pride in your work is seen as old person bullshit.
>>
>>147404464
Maybe you have internal resolution set too high. I get fullspeed at up to 3x native resolution (with Super Mario 64 at least) with the current software renderer on a i5 4690K

>>
>>147405146

Oh, is that all? Shit, I prefer CPU rendering anyway.

Fewer problems, I've found.
>>
>>147405186
I think tyhat may have been the reason. I reinstalled RetroArch and know it's working fine. Though it seems to stutter if I set the resolution to 1024x768. That's kind of embarrassing. A $1000+ PC should be able to handle that.
>>
>>147406342

Sometimes I wonder whether each new generation of hardware is giving less or each new generation of programmers is a little shittier.

I'm trying to run Retroarch through a Steam Link. I can load a game, hear the game, and interact with it, but the screen is white. My guess is that the Link is trying to latch onto the window that gets replaced by the emulator.

I'm having some trouble with the RetroArch frontend for Mednafen. Up until just a few minutes ago, everything was swell. I'd just scanned a directory for my GBA roms and loaded one up; it worked fine, so I moved on to scanning another directory.

However, when I added the content--my solitary nds rom for Pokemon White--the DeSmuMe worked, but when I tried to go back and load a GBA game, it crashed immediately.

I've as of yet been unable to find any fix for this issue. My BIOS file is named correctly, I've tried using the auto-updater, deleting the core and redownloading it, using another core entirely, and even deleting my .lpl file and rescanning the directory.

Does anyone have any idea what I might be doing wrong?

Probably with learning a programming language.

Yeah, no duh... Probably my fault for being vague, but I do know how to program (at least sort of well anyway)

What I meant was how would I go by actually emulating the NES/GB's operating systems? How does memory allocation work in those consoles, and how I could make parallels with how a computer does it...

This might belong in /g/, but I just thought /emugen/ wouldn't be a bad place to start

Thanks I managed to get rid of the dithering, sorry to be a pain man but all these other options (widescreen fix, internal gpu resolution, internal color depth, etc) are any of them worth messing with or can it make the game look worse? Since I have been trying to play Silent Hill and while it is something I could put up with I would rather have the game a bit more HD on the eyes if possible.

As right now getting rid of the dithering helped but everything else looks really fuzzy and glitchy like the character models (guessing that might just be the emulator troubles)

CPU overclocking doesn't really have any draw backs, so may as well.

No, that's just a PS1 issue, and Silent Hill is particularly terrible when it comes to jittering. Subpixel precision will help a bit, but not much.

How stable is TTYD?

I tried playing it on 5.0. First thing that happened was the boat Mario arrives in to glitch when it was supposed to flip.

Which settings do I use?

The menus run at and accepts inputs at 60fps, while the 3D is rendered at 15fps. This doesn't happen on the PC version.
But there's a mod to make everything run at 60fps on PC, so w/e. Has some issues, but nothing that bad.

The dolphin team, supposedly.

From their FAQ: Our buildbot provides each revision of Dolphin in four variants on the main site. [[Windows, Mac, Linux, Android.]]"

But there hasn't been a stable release since 4.0, and there hasn't been a dev release since 5 came out.

I mean, there's the PPA, which probably works, but I'm still curious why they stopped with the regular builds.

For PCSXR, the game I am playing, can't save in game. it literally just doesn't let me, it greys out the option. I'm running HD Textures + max graphical settings and my framerate tanks in spots with effects and enemies like this one.

I'm running on Dolphin 5.0-116 and 4GB GTX 980 + i7 4790k. Are you just not supposed to do all that regardless of your specs, or could there be some other problem?
>>
>trying to play Jazz Jackrabbit

I'm guessing it's some kind of vsync issue(as in vsync breaks the engine or something), but turning off double buffering in DOSBox doesn't do anything.

Probably from loading all the textures. Can be mitigated running off an SSD, or using prefetch custom textures. If you don't have >20GB of RAM to prefetch, then delete some of them.

I run an SSD and 16 GB of RAM. I'm prefetching the half-res version of Hypatia's textures which only requires 8 GB. Task manager says I'm only using 60-70% of my memory.

Might just be overloading your GPU really. Doing a bunch of shaders at 14,432x8,640(which is sort of what SSAA is doing) is going to be pretty expensive even for GC graphics.
>>
>>147499247
Guess it's shader gen, then. Don't remember shader gen being much of an issue with Wind Waker, though.
Use the Ishiiruka build and DX11 backend for async shader gen. It'll remove the stutter, but some things will be invisible for a brief second instead.

My framerate dips to 20 at that particular spot and the audio gets choppy. When I turn the camera around toward the wall behind me, fps goes back to 30 and everything runs smoothly.

Yes, if it was shader gen it would just be freezing up for a frame or two whenever you went to new areas or saw new effects for the first time, and then it would go back to normal.

You probably just need to turn down the SSAA.

>>
>>147501509
Rapidly swap between both and see if you can even tell which is different. Honestly you can just forget the whole AA thing and probably improve latency if you just set the internal resolution to above your display resolution.
>>
>>147501504
H-how do you know what I do outside of emugen?
>>
>>147501509
Do you not know how AA works?

With MSAA you won't get ANY AA for textures, like for extra AF, transparent textures, and even for unfiltered textures(SSAA does more than that normally, but not in Dolphin). But that's pretty minor when MSAA is a lot faster and will look better where it's really noticable.

>>147501665
OGSSAA is shit and slow, that's a terrible idea.

>>147501509
Actually though, you might try just turning down the IR to 2.5 or even window size and keeping 8xSSAA. Using non-integer IRs is supposed to cause issues, but in my experience it's very rare.
>>
>>147502021
>OGSSAA is shit and slow, that's a terrible idea.
It can be taxing - so if the card can't handle it then yes it's slow - but if it can, it's actually less latency than regular SSAA.
