Unfamiliar with fighting games except for Melee and the original DC SoulCalibur. Want to explore more games in the genre and heard this was a great place to start. Not to mention - easy to run, fairly active community and a jazz-themed character who gets to play a trumpet solo before he busts out his strongest finisher.

Are all those accurate? Will I probably enjoy this game given that background? And the 2nd Encore upgrade unlocks all the DLC characters, right?

The best place to dive into the game is the tutorial.

After finishing the tutorial check out the Discord server for advice / help / matches and also the official forums (Skullheart).

You won't find any gameplay related help / talk here.

Make sure to buy the Steam version, that's where all the players are.

Practicing a big band level 5 jingle takes practice. Look up the note pattern and work on it.
Also skull heart is a great place to ask for advice, or the websites we can't mention here. Just get some good tips.

At face value the Tutorial and Trial combos aren't optimal, but there are still bits of important tech within them.

Like in the Tutorial mode, performing the combos isn't about practical damage, but really just understanding the rhythm of the game and getting a feel for how to chain attacks together. That's really important for people who aren't used to navigating 6-button controls. You have to advance your techskill from a 0/10 to at least a 4/10 to get through those consistently.

and In the Trials, you can take what you've learned elsewhere and reverse engineer the combo it presents you to make something useful.

Example, I had been playing Painwheel for a long time, but somehow never knew I could reliably connect j.MK into c.MK after a throw until I did the Trial. I had always just been doing j.MK to c.LK instead. That little bit of knowledge then translated to me using c.MK confirm after j.MK in other situations too, which is slightly better for damage and scaling for combos overall.

So little bits like that can go a long way.

They said it'll have new Story modes directed by Alex featuring new animations for characters. Mike said it's 65% less work to do sprites for a character in the Mobile version, which means they can add new characters to it, and have those assets to reuse later when they do SG2. He's also been trying to keep Hidden Variable from allowing any of the game's paid content from making the game pay-to-win.

I don't have a Mobile device, but it sounds like Hidden Variable is showing utmost respect for LabZero's input, and if this can keep the SG brand alive and expanding just a little bit while we wait for Indivisible, then that's pretty good.

As much as I enjoyed Valkyrie Profile, I can't believe anyone would call its platforming faster or smoother. than what Indivisible did in just the Prototype. VP was a wonderfully packaged story and concept with gameplay that varied from genius to clunky as fuck. Even the minimaps could be a pain in the ass. Still, I loved the game anyway, especially since it was the first of its kind that I played (unless you count something like Mario RPG).

Thankfully, I can enjoy both VP and Indivisible just fine!
