First snapshot for Minecraft 1.10, polar bears are here and no one cares!
Minecraft for Windows 10 beta released, coded in C++.
FyberOptic ported the modloader "Meddle" to 1.10 snapshots.
1.9 has been released, and it's buggy as all hell. Contains The End revamp, beets, YMMV new combat, witch sounds and other features. Check the wiki for more info.
An anon released a "diet" Natura fork: https://github.com/Rukachan/Nature
BetterWithMods 0.6.2 beta released: https://boards.fireden.net/vg/thread/138191219#138373675

Just finished getting the low-tier stuff sorted, so I've got the Tinkers tables and chests, resources etc obtained. Before I start on the actual IE machines or BR reactors, I'm debating what to build my land out of.

I'm on a small collection of tiny, hilly islands (two main ones, a load of 5x10ish smaller ones). How should I go about terraforming and building on this? Anyone got some inspiration for me?

I'm totally stuck for materials as well. I used up all my iron for the Tinkers tables, maybe I can use a mix of the catwalk mod with chisel factory blocks when I finally find some iron though.

if they are the same height then I would be using the ceiling height for the top of the staircase all the way down, it'd be absurdly tall at the bottom. The roofing material is nether brick.

Nether brick is a nice touch.

railcraft has the right idea, and railcraft cosmetics is taking steps in the right direction, but it needs more variety.
>>
>>147117179
Box carts instead of chest carts
Flatbed carts that you can put logs and things on
Tank carts that actually look like tank carts, rather than just a glass cube in a vanilla cart
Carts that are 2 blocks long in general would be a nice addition

Thanks. Also have a front view.

Right now I am looking into modifying that big round space. It was going to be a tower but when I put in the roofing for the staircase I realised it was going to overlap into the tower, so I guess I will split it into an outer, outdoors ring, and an inner actual structure ring. Might also figure out what I'm even building in there somewhere along the way.

A better overview of the current dilemma.

Just realised I could turn it into a garden with a big central tree, the tiered farm path leading to the tower was going to have flowers but I realised I needed basically all the room for crops due to Spice Of Life, at least until I find a place/time/design for a proper farm somewhere in the surrounding countryside. When I do that I can tear out those crops and do a pretty little garden.

I'm sad because the server owner installed BoP but NONE OF THE FLOWERS ARE GENERATING. I WANT MY CLOVERS AND ANEMONES GODDAMNIT.

There was a critical bug on the previous version where if you brought up the debug chart, it would crash the game. I had to start from scratch to fix it, since all I'm doing is editing code, not writing it.
Bauble box is now part of the mod (because I fucked up and deleted the source by accident. Old version is still safe to use though.), as well as the Fire ring rod (Rod of the Hells > Inferno Sceptre) and the divining rod (Rod of the Plentiful Mantle > Staff of the Core. Particles are single colour now instead of rainbow spew).
If I can figure out how to override the HUD render code for the wand, I want the hourglass as its own thing, since it looks nice and is really simple

I'm a little heartbroken to be honest guys. I was expecting at least 200 for all this effort. So far I have 6 windmills built up here, but if all they give is 50 each, I'll need at least 75 more just to power 1 excavator.

Was it safe to say Notch was the reason Minecraft was enjoyable?
>>
>>147128259
eh.
it's not really minecraft or notch, it's sort of the style of game.

for example, terraria is comfy as fuck on its own, but it has a shit community and babby tier mods to expand on gameplay, so it's game cycle is
>play vanilla
>beat game
>get bored
>quit for 5 months

Verses minecraft
>play vanilla for tons of time because you can't "beat" anything
>play babby tier mods > play more complex mods
>use premade large modpack
>make own small modpack
>make own large modpack
>config large large modpack
>cut down large modpack to specific theme
>config large modpack further
>config it even further with minetweaker
>it's time for a new version so you just begin again

This plus the fact people not even related to mojang really shilled for kids to play it.

I shitpost about Vazkii because he's a neo-modder, i.e.:
>wasn't around in humbler days of modding (he recently turned 18)
>someone who was okay and even supported Steam's paid mods fiasco
>someone who thinks the modding community exists to benefit the modders and other "content creators" (even FTB's shitty pack makers), benefiting players (with entertainment) is a side-effect at the very best
>someone who thinks his playbase is disposable cattle meant to support him via adflypennies and/or patreonbucks, so he thinks shitting on them is perfectly fine
These people are cancer for the future of modding, and those kinds of modders taking over is exactly what companies like Steam and Bethesda want so they can start putting paywalls behind pieces of software that are produced unprofessionally, with no guarantee of support or even working at all.

I don't like his "muh pronouns are IMPORTANT", being a reddit-tier (and sometimes facebook-tier) memelord shit, or having a bunch of asslickers around who still refer to him as "she" either, but I don't think it matters anywhere as much as the above. Doesn't prevent other shitposters from using it as ammo and making it more personal while avoiding (what I think are) the real issues, though.
>>
>>147136683

Vazkii has been modding since beta 1.8, actually, though the serious mods only came in around 1.4.7.

>what companies like Steam and Bethesda want so they can start putting paywalls behind pieces of software that are produced unprofessionally, with no guarantee of support or even working at all.
Question I ask people sometimes: Would you be okay with selling mods if the selling would only be allowed if the modder(s) in question effectively become employees for the company producing the game and thus be required to support and be liable for their mods? In essence, turning unofficial mods into official expansion packs with the same level of quality and support you'd expect from the proper game.

>I don't like his "muh pronouns are IMPORTANT"
Everyone else's. Vazkii gave up on it at least a year ago.
>>
>>147142367

that is literally, non-memedly, impossible.

>>
>>147142491
Sure it is. DrZhark was commissioned by Mojang to help them create the horses in the 1.6 update. Also, Ark: Survival Evolved is apparently doing something similar (that is, legitimizing mods), according to a quick Google and https://www.engadget.com/2016/04/24/ark-survival-evolved-mod-program/

that's exactly why communism isn't possible.

not the same anon, but after last thread's eldritch/lovecraft mod hunt I really want to see someone make an addon for Thaumcraft that actually takes the implications made by it's Eldritch tab (the outer realms being used as a testing ground of sorts and the Eldritch living elsewhere) and runs with it, making a home dimension for the Eldritch only accessible through primordial pearls, with the option to either fight them or join them.

It should be praecantatio, acting as the hidden aspect that fuels the world but is unknown to you, but the whole aspect system is retarded imo. Like, why can I break down primal aspects in a crucible and get something composed of two different aspects (vitium)?

As >>147152218 mentioned, diamond pipes can filter heaps, and if that still isn't enough, there's also Lists in BC, which filter things even more specifically, and can be put into diamond pipe filters, and even each other.

What the hell is the black obelisk on the left side of the main island in the image? It seems to be turning everything around it dark, but what worries me more is that I can't be sure as to whether it will cause taint to start spreading across the islands? Should I just move now or should I look into Thaumcraft stuff to remove the obelisk?
>>
>>147159562
The aura node in the obelisk is just converting the biome around it to Eerie. The worst bit about that is the drastic change in sky colour when walking across it. It's harmless otherwise. The node however, may spawn zombies, and the obelisk might spawn guardians.

You can just break it all with a pick if you want, but you'll need to get into TC/other magic/tech mod a little bit if you want to change the biome back

hey guys need little bit of a help on a problem. Yesterday I watched videos on finding your spawn chunk, and I used single hopper method to extend the spawn chunks to my place (not that far, but far enough to not be loaded) and that is not working, I tried the dispense arrow into half slab method, and still doesn't work. It's a stack overflow error. For some fucking reason, Cerd's serb has both B-B and Botania installed, and I was reckless enough to wear your Magnet Ring near a dropped Mana Tablet.

Here's the relevant word from Vaz.

Dumb question: I have a bunch of old modded worlds from 4 years ago which I want to check out and then delete. I don't know immediately know what mods they used, what version it was, or much else about it. I downloaded vanilla MC and stuck the worlds in the Save folder, but when I try to load it it shows an endless sky and immediately crashes to desktop with no error.

Do I need to go through the trouble of digging through the files and figuring out all the configs etc., or am I just missing something super obvious that I can easily fix?
>>
>>147190840
chances are the world savefile format has changed in some regard. you'll need the right version to even have a chance, and generally you need the mods or you'll get crashy

First of all, the server->client NBT sending and server NBT saving functions are separate, so well-written mods only send data necessary for rendering that route.

Second, WAILA sends its own packets. Ever since the infamous bug where BuildCraft Fillers and Builders would slow the server down to a crawl when being looked at as, for massive (~64x64x64) constructions, they stored lots of building state internally, WAILA has worked by only sending NBT tags necessary for the tooltip, not the whole thing.

What you're saying is, indeed, true, but only when you're using WAILA or looking at a GUI. Hardly a massive increase still.

I can't remember - I was messing around trying to decide which linked jars worked better, the gadomancy ones or TExploration bound jars.
Gadomancy ones are good for things like lamp of growth.
Bound jars are a little buggy, but work much better as ranged input/output, since they don't try and balance/split essentia between the jars - which clogs up systems.

>>

Yes, the sparkly ones are called "ghost points"
You can use them in research notes or to combine aspects, you can not use them to buy research out of the thaumonomicon

They are generated by different things around your table, crystal clusters, some magical items, etc. Bookshelves work best.
>>
>>147222678
Should not , you only have one ghost point of an aspect at a time, and it's only used when you run out of regular points in that aspect.

>Lycanite's Mobs
>find some of the weapons in a dungeon chest

Holy shit these are incredible.

Axe that deals the same damage as a diamond sword and makes you immune to poison. Also a low chance of summoning a remobra.

Sword dealing same damage as a diamond sword, guaranteed to set the target on fire and has a good chance to summon a cinder (turbo cancer mob from the Nether that sets everything in front of it in a 90 degree cone on fire)

Staff that charges up before firing a beam that drains enemies and heals you

Mobs drop meat that gives a negative effect when eaten raw, a good effect when cooked, and several long lasting good effects when combined - e.g. chupucabra meat (automatically cooked if killed by the sword of cinders) gives you leech 2, meaning you heal massive amounts of health for eight seconds. Another mob gives you absorption 2, which acts as a shield for five hearts of damage.

Like I told myself after getting bored with my old Instance, I decided to try Magneticraft and NuclearCraft. Mostly for new power (NC) and interesting machines (MGNC)
But about a week ago I had the brilliant idea of an All Tech Kitchen Sink Pack, configed of course.
A ton of mods I decided to forsake due to Complicated bullshit, bad textures, both, or just (IMO) bad mods.
On top of Mekanism, TE, EiO, IE, BC,
Added Pneumaticraft, Magneticraft, NuclearCraft, Matter Overdrive and Galacticraft.
I may try ICY2 or Classic, again.
And I just remembered Engineer's Toolbox exists, which I may add and try again.
And there are other tech mods I decided not to mention due to the ass pain it may bring.
I dont really want AE2, since I have the SUPERIOR logistics pipes, but I may also add that due to reasons.

Any other 1.7.10 tech mdos out there?

Simple: Don't use the mod. Fuck supporting someone who doesn't follow the basics of programming or creating anything complex.
It's only a matter of time until they get confused by their own code and fuck something up majorly, or outright give up on their mod because they can't be fucked decoding what things do for the umpteenth time.

I'm sure there's another mod out there that does a similar enough job and has proper documentation.

Most mods either lack documentation or have fan-sourced documentation. Railcraft and the few in-game-manual-including mods are notable exemptions. However, I think there's only three mods ever which had unit tests (NOVA, one obscure mod from GitHub and, to a small extent, BuildCraft).

Computercraft Dev:
>Of course: Mojang don't exactly make it easy to derive any other sort of revenue from your mods, and developers gotta eat. In an ideal world, Mojang would support paid modding, and make modding a viable career. Alternatively: Users would actually donate to support the mods they like in much greater quantities that they do now (almost zero).

Was this guy dropped in the head as a child? Just how many devs are actually (attempting to) make their living off of using their amateur-tier code mod alone by using it as malware bait (adfly), and with e-begging (patreon) on the side?
And paid modding? How the fuck is that in an "ideal world"? Do they actually think they can get away with selling amateur code with no professionalism, zero guarantee of support, and a "development can cease at any moment with zero notice"? Do they actually think users are retarded enough to buy their mods, especially after the steam fiasco? Especially when mod piracy can and WILL exist?

>>
>>147287681
People are in fact, entitled to documentation, no matter whether or not the work is free, especially if it is open source.
>>
>>147285101
People like dan200 are exceptions, not rules, and they should definitely not view the rest of the modding community as mirrors of themselves, especially when even other so-called "big mods", most notably Pam's Harvestcraft, are just piles of copy-pasted busywork code.

And no, I don't think they would. Definitely not enough to justify destroying both multiplayer and modpacks. Most sensible people will be pirating their mods because nobody's going to pay twice the game's original price to be able to make a decent modpack. Nevermind paying a small fortune to be able to host one.

"Muh work with no compensation" faggots need to fuck off and stop being a rotten example and spoiling the rest of the apples already, if Mojang gave us a fucking official API they'd sit down and work out of passion and shut their massive mouths up, without the need of constant maintenance to inflate their egos nobody would give a single shit about their twice-a-day threats to fall off the face of the earth if their e-begging quotas weren't met, as it should be.

If the API is done right, versions won't matter, so modders won't need to update their mods for each version, which means less work. Less work, less need to be compensated.
What part are you not understanding?

You really have no idea what you're talking about, do you? You seem to assume everyone out there is like us, making their own pack. I am.

Documenting and commenting your code is literally programming 101. Hell, even in college you're practically required to do that shit, even in simple programs, so you adapt that healthy habit ASAP, because you never know when you'll need to come back to it to do something again, and you certainly don't want to waste time decoding your own code. If you haven't gotten into the habit by the time you're making programs where the entirety of the code doesn't fit in your computer screen, you may as well drop out right now.

This also applies to programming professionally. You might have the memory of an elephant and know every detail of your code, but chances are your employer doesn't plan on keeping you there forever, you'll be required for posterity to leave documentation for anyone who wants to tinker, debug, or otherwise mess around with your code.

I hope I don't need to explain why documentation is especially important in group projects, because there's a special place in hell for people who don't do that shit in group projects.

And drop that "volunteer yourself" garbage. Forgetting for a second about how documentation is programming 101, as well as being completely unable to create an accurate wiki for closed source mods, if you wrote it you have by far the easiest time making documentation for it, so fucking do it.
>>
>>147290607

I was testing this last week. It's decent, but has some minor issues - like setting E to open inventory (the default) causes inv to open and then immediately close. Ended up having to set it to shift+e to bypass that, but e still retains the close inv function
Author looks like they're doing a rewrite to fix that sort of thing

they gave tug away to make up for yogventures dev being worse at coding than lex, but then even the yogscast never mentioned it or played it again as far as I know

Do not confuse documenting code with documenting usage. The former is common, the latter is actually not as common in open source as you'd assume.

>>147287859
Actually, Tesla is the new RF, pretty much. It's RF with longs, capabilities and a poorly chosen name. Modders want it mostly for that second thing - capabilities add a lot of flexibility and are necessary for multiparts without doing FMP-level or Immibis' Microblocks-level ASM wizardry.

>>147285101
Remember that Dan200 is a professional programmer, but he also generally refused to work on ComputerCraft unless someone is paying him for the hours of work. There was a long period of time in which his Twitter was "I'm going to port ComputerCraft to 1.8, but it's a lot of work so I'm going to wait for someone to pay me to do it". However, he's also older and thus, unlike many modders still in college/uni, actually requires income to survive. Make of that what you wish.

(Also, OpenComputers is both technically and functionally superior, except for the "Edu" part, and it's that way in no small part due to the open source license and having far more than one developer behind it.)

>>147285716
Discussions of bringing back MJ came back a lot, and a total rewrite of BuildCraft combined with the fall of RF's dominance sounds like a good time to do it - after all, all of the current dev team eventually wanted to do it.

>>147281148
EU was moderately interesting until it was broken in 1.7, but it was apparently fixed in 1.9. MJ not so much, but BuildCraft is getting a total rewrite by a new developer so who knows what will happen?

The building isn't symmetrical, but I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that only certain blocks affect stabilization.

These are part of the reason why I don't post builds. The main reason though, is that I always end up reverting into efficient square buildings/rooms and just build efficient to use/automate stuff most of the time rather than interesting buildings and over complicated but awesome machines and would be ashamed of posting boring shit like that. TLDR: I'm a shit uncreative builder and don't have much worth posting.
>>
>>147320630
That's not as bad as it seems. Actually, I have been appreciating more realistic builds than heavily stylized "medieval" builds I see from videos from BDoubleO and Grian. Thing is, building for survival is always gonna be barebones at the very least because you only need it to survive creeper blasts and other shit, and modded only drives that home further.

It's never too late to learn building techniques from others, especially balancing creative builds with survival viability.

>>147350745
because you're using reikashit
>>
>>147350547
>he's still trying to meme his way out
(you)
>>
>>147351004

it was happening before i installed his mods though
>>
>another thread that's more bickering than Minecraft discussion
>just a couple of weeks ago people were adamantly defending "summer" is a meme

Except when he left, LexManos wasn't involved in FTB. Lex joined when Eloraam was the only one left. He left from Eloraam, SpaceToad and Alblaka.

>They even tried to steal his fucking mod from him to put into FTB packs.
>But when an /mcg/ modder does it, it's fine and rebellious!

If this is what it is like over summer, I'm surprised you manage 50 posts before archiving during the other parts of the year.
>>
>>147352356
Consider stop browsing because they'd rather not be fucked with summerposting.

there was supposed to be a "people" in there

What version are you running? I have the latest beta on curse, but I don't see any new fluids. I can't find EIO's jenkins page either.

still like half finished but i'll get back to it eventually
>>
>>147353447
Thanks a lot anon. Somehow I managed to download a year old version instead.

>>147353283
Could be ok if you only have EIO but everything in it already exists in other mods. Those cosmetic blocks are pretty dank tho.

I don't think I like lightning affinity anymore
>>
>>147356656
pffhahaha
>>
What are some good means of lighting that looks good? I've been using AE's certus torches and they're great, but I'm wanting to have a warehouse with lots of walls of storage, are there any good floodlight sorts of things?
>>
>>147356925
immersive engineering floodlights
>>
>>147356925
Try chisel neon glowstone and put it on the roofs
>>
>>147357038
Don't have it, plus I never liked Immersive Engineering. Pretty much everything else outclasses it.
>>
>>147358476
>chisel neon glowstone
H-How did you know? That was my main method for a while until I started having a real bad need for glowstone for power storage.
>>
>>147358493
You can use immersive engineering floodlights with RF power, no need for any machines or anything.
>>
>>147358610
You can use microblocks to get lodsoflite out of a single block
>>
Anyone have some favorite 1.4.7 mods?

I'm thinking of making an instance on that version.

I don't think it's unreasonable for that guy to not want to install a big content mod for exactly one minor feature
