It's lore appropriate for him to transform, but that doesn't mean that he has to have the same ability. There are plenty of ways to do that. Also many many melee physical gods have steroids. Bakasura, Mercury, Amaterasu, Ne Zha, Arachne, Loki, Thanatos, Fenrir, and I don't even think that's all of them, that is not a unique feature of his kit. It's not the only gods to have that, I mean Ra ult is just his 1 but bigger. Sylvanus, Geb and Bacchus have basically the same ult the only thing that change is the CC applied. Amaterasu ult is just old Guan Yu ult a bit modified.

You need to improve your cool-down awareness. When you play Ares your first ultimate in the match is exclusively just to burn the enemy beads. After that you will get your ultimate back before their beads go off cooldown and if you don't use it within that time frame either your team is shitting around and unable to set up a fight, or you yourself are shit at timing.
After that, you bait beads by using your chain attack, or people on your team need to bait beads with their own CC.
