There's no measure of 'skill' beyond being able to win. Beyond that, who is to say what stat is worth more? Is objective time better than damage? How much damage with worth objective time. If it's giving more points to gold/silver/bronze medals, does a gold with 1 more damage than silver give the same as gold with 1000 more damage? Is damaging rein's shield the same as damaging rein himself?

I hate to say it, but I think League does the ranking system better. A straight up number slider from 1 to 100 is too simplistic, there's just too little gradation.
There's a reason ELO goes from 1-2400, and League puts you into divisions that you can't drop out of once you've reached them unless you just don't play for like six months.

I was only playing support, switching between Mercy and Lucio, often several gold medals. 2 games of Lucio with several gold medals and 0 deaths. Had voting highlights in all 10 of them, either with %healing or %rezzes. Overall performed really fucking well I'd say, except the last match where I picked Symmetra for King's Road defense and it was such a stomp I had gold medal with 7 kills.

It was a good rank too. I just don't care anymore. I'm probably as good as I'm ever going to be with the heroes I find fun, I have every skin/emote/whatever worth a shit, I don't have any interest in grinding 300 golden gun points, and honestly the game kind of sucks.
The game is fun as shit when you're learning how to play it but now that I know how to play it I don't want to play it anymore.

Ideally we expect a player to reach their 'true' rank after a good number of games, so if you're a solo player good and bad teams should even out. As for pre-mades, it's my personally opinion that they should have a group MMR rather than several solo ones, but I have no idea how blizzard's system works in this regard.
