Do atmos techs and engis have the same access to everything? I was fucking around on a local server today and couldn't get into atmos as an engineer, but I'm positive I walk in there all the time on /vg/ (I was using /vg/'s code for the server). Conversely, as an atmos I couldn't get out to the solar array to unwrench the vent out there
Is there any significant difference between using thermal plates, HE pipes, and heat exchangers?
Also, how do people usually optimize the waste loop? Could you replace the the volume pump near the waste inlet in atmos with a straight section of pipe then just add in a bunch of vents and HE pipes branching off the vent that already goes to space? It seems like that volume pump would be a chokepoint, and I'm having trouble understanding what its purpose is

I've been on the station so long but realized I never tried to find anything through actual space exploration. Do you just pick a direction and pray or is there a more efficient way of knowing where you're going?

space maps are actually divided in sections, called "z levels".
different maps have slightly different z levels; on box station z1 is the station, z2 is unaccessible to normal players (there is centcomm and other special places), z4 is derelict and clown roid, etcetera (z level are slightly different depending on the map); when you reach the limits of a z level, you will enter in another random z level.
the better way to explore space is to be equipped with a GPS and a full jetpack.

The main problem is that there are two camps on this server: people who want low RP, little to no admin interference, security handling most issues etc., and the people who want Bay-tier RP with enforced job roles and high admin intervention. It's impossible to please both crowds at the same time, believe me I've seen too many places that have tried, and they all ended up like /tg/ where it devolved into hippie-tier chaos.
Apparently I'm not "acting like my job should". In that case we should jobban every chemist that immediately doesn't make a clonemix at roundstart, every engineer that forgets to set up the engine, and every scientist that isn't doing research. It's ridiculous standards that aren't enforced for everyone else, so why should it apply to me?

There are several non-criminal ways to acquire insulated gloves, even if you're a lowly assistant.
You will rarely run out of these options, and it's usually when the round goes over one hour or when the station has gone to complete shit. In these cases, the crew usually has more urgent matters do deal with than some assistant breaking into engineering for a pair of gloves.

The problem with that is that virologist would almost 100% just be an antag role at that point. As it stands, virology just isn't satisfying as nonantag and is only fun when you can actually cause havoc with the millions of viruses you're not allowed to release.

Anyway, the plasma line running into the station doesn't interact with the distro line at all. All you have to do is remove the T-juction linking the plasma miner to the mix line and then pipe the plasma miner to wherever you want the plasma going.

I only today figured out how to run the TEG semi-reliably, so take all of this with a grain of salt and remember that it's probably possible to get a lot more out of the thing if you're not semi-retarded like me.
1. Follow everything in the low maint setup guide.
2. Replace the gas pumps after hot and cold loop connectors with volume pumps
3. Unwrench the large vent outside the burn chamber, near the engineering solars
4. Leave the scrubber in the burn chamber off. Importing the code from the "Setting up on Boxstation" into the AAC near the burn chamber makes it easy to do this
I think that's everything I did and I got it to run for awhile in the 600kW-900kW range. It fluctuates a lot. If it starts to dip below acceptable levels of power for an extended period of time, just vent the burn chamber and hook up new O2 and Plasma canisters to the burn chamber. Again, I'm still fairly new to the TEG and atmos in general, so this is probably far from an optimal setup. If it doesn't work let me know and I'll try to figure out what I forgot to tell you

Lets say you're sec and you want AEGs for your boys. You ask science for a kit and they don't wanna do it. they don't, you can give up or break in and make it.
Now assuming they don't chloral you or what have you for breaking in, now you have a modkit and 3 AEGs max, 4 if you're the HoS and 6 if you're the HoP or cap.
Guess what. That modkit is entirely useless and it might as well have spit out the AEG in the lockbox, only difference now is that you need to get cargo to cooperate if you want more.
It's the same for any other angle of the equation. I also can't get you logs of anyone ignoring me, and I'm not about to logdive for every cargo order I've done.
Honestly, if it had a phazon requirement I couldn't give less of a shit because

I don't think you quite understand how Github works. Issues don't get merged. If you put the sprites into an issue, you're essentially saying "I don't have enough skill or desire to actually add these, but if someone else does, here you go."
They're not even guaranteed to be added if you put them in an issue.
If you want your sprite changes to get into the game, you need to make a PR.

I am very very likely not the person you think about because absolutely no one thinks of me at all.
They hardly trivialize combat as well, everyone is susceptible to that one stun that lands no matter how many AEGs you have in your backpack, and sometimes mass producing them or any gun is a necessity for the station to simply prevent a round from turning into antag murderbones for an hour at 3 AM- no admins edition.
And like I said, everything apparently breaks combat just because it has a stun setting. ARs apparently now break combat, A four shot syringe gun was apparently too OP so they made hardsuits even more of a power gamey tool (and in the process made it so one gives a shit about it)
I'm actually a very nice and composed person, but I think the way that you do balance is very much make or break from DAMN THIS IS GOOOOOD to "why even bother with this?"
Once again, arming the crew is sometimes the most you can do sometimes and the more you take the option away the more you see boring murderbone around. Just disable the max 4 guys that have armory access and you're golden.
If you are who I think you are, you should become better at the game so that an AEG isn't a problem.
Hell, I remember the PR from when you removed the AEGs, we were talking about flame throwers being the de-facto blob fighting weapon to replace them, but that never worked out either because flamethrowers are still fairly bad.
