That's the thing. I'm not entirely convinced it's not wanted. I think a lot of people on /a/ would like a place to talk about naruto if they knew about it, we're just pretty isolated here. And people have drifted out without new people drifting in like would happen on /a/.
But I guess all good things must come to an end, huh? Will the general start back up again the next time a naruto game is released? or when something happens in the manga? what would we have said about it? would more people have come and saved it if we'd kept it alive?

I don't suppose anyone knows of any good Boruto era ones. There are a lot of them, with no mechanism to search through all the shit, and some good content from that era is desirable, given how Assistant-kun's stuff is shaping up. Just went to /jp/ to see if I could discuss VNs and that board seems to be entirely dedicated to Touhou, which is mostly fan content; it's difficult to really emphasize how much more active the fan community is there than it is for Naruto's here, despite the fact that most of my friends in the real world wouldn't even know what it is.

I think the next gen kids work well for setting up scenarios like this in fanfiction, plus it's a good way to introduce the audience into a "what if" story if you follow characters who only know the regular universe just like the reader.

It worked well enough for the Star Trek Online General that has proven a bit too inactive to really survive here.
But then it did shed people in the move as it always happens, so if we make a move, it should be planned out beforehand. Also, I don't know how tolerant the mods over there would be of a general only vaguely about a video game series - even in comparison to a general that is 50-50 split between discussing Star Trek and Star Trek Online.

We play via text, not via voice. People have suggest streaming, but there wouldn't be much to see other than people typing and small tokens occasionally being moved. I believe the short summaries at the end of the sessions are the best way to sum up what happened.

I for one supported the NUNS series, and might be buying any future ports of the Naruto-themed games, but honestly, Background-kun's garbage art and the horrible writing of Blood Prison Guy basically ensured I stay with the 'take my winnings and get the fuck out' policy I adopted after 700 and The Last.
The fact that we don't get, say a Naruto-themed RPG with a character creator starting as geninunder a Jonin Narutolike Three or so years after the Last will be a sore spot, honestly.

Regarding team 8 and all the rest it's a real shame that we opted for just shit-flinging, rather than going the 'I think X does Y better' route, there's certainly plenty of material out there to go over.
I for one am not too elitist about what I read, but neither am I too accepting of a bad style. Something called the War of the Bijuu was brought up a couple of threads ago, but I ended up dropping it five chapters in. It all felt too artificial and forced, a direct manifestation of what the author thought would be neat. Weirdly I do agree a lot of his ideas and 'should-have-beens' are pretty nice, but just couldn't quite stomach the fic itself.
Maybe that's why unlike that other anon who OD'd, I only ever properly read just a few.

Frustrating though, since it only has three chapters with the last one being published back in October. Read another what-if story about Bolt in which Momoshiki does not appear at the Chunnin Exams, motivating Bolt to flee Konoha in humiliation and become a missing nin. The characters are wooden, dialog is mechanical and neither that nor the narration or descriptions have any juice, fun about them. I think where I quit was Sakura trying to get Kakashi to train her. With the personalities involved and with the sheer volume of shits Kakashi has never given about training Sakura's training, if it is to be brought back I expect a firery, demanding exchange and perhaps even a bit of a grudge on her part, and maybe a bit of hurt pride from Kakashi that once Team 7 broke up she did not turn to him for help but for the Hokage for no reason other than parallels.
That could have been a good, strong exchange, and all it resulted in was a dry and uninteresting drag.
It didn't even piss me off, it just made me essentially go "Oh. Okay then." much like with everything else going on in that story. And if in five chapters it doesn't manage to come up with anything worth reading, there's no reason for me to plough on with it, potentially spoiling my enjoyment of other fics by virtue of sheer exposure.

I do agree that the writing is pretty dull and characters seem to just talk for the sake of dialog. I'll be honest with, I skipped some paragraphs too. I think it's because the writer wants to make it read like if it was written by Kishimoto himself, which can be taken as more of a bad thing than good. But it does slowly start to curve into it's own thing along the way and it will catch some interest out of the reader. Especially when the war officially starts. It's quirk is pretty much a look at "what if" with the end of Naruto.
As for Sakura and Kakashi: I didn't really see anything needed to be emotionally thought out other then she needed to be trained by him and he agrees. Yes, she did call him out on his neglect but he was willing to train her. I didn't expect shit flinging or bitterness.
