Start up the highest tier red or blue potion you can. I forget which is best, I think it switches at some point. But either works, yellow just adds a bunch of extra stages to drain your shields faster.
Spend a long time dumping ingredients in. Once you get a big pile of cat coupons and fast ingredient speed, it's best to do a few rounds of pushcats. The longer you let it go the, more you get out of it.
Upgrade to max, sell, buy upgrades, repeat.

That's pretty much it. While they actually managed to turn Jaguna^ into a somewhat okayish unit, I'd argue that his skillset is somehow even WORSE than hers, due to being built around a gimmick that just doesn't work in this game. And even then said gimmick is supported by absolutely half-assed skills that should at least have way stronger effects to make up for barely getting a chance to trigger. There's pretty much two ways to save the nowadays worst unit in the game:
A) Giving him the Jaguna^ treatment with ridiculously high stats at L90 and at least 2-3 powerful and possibly even unique skills to carve him a niche.
B) Giving him an Augment skill and turning him into another poor man's Augment unit like Palpa^.
Considering Korin and Eileen were given the SS treatment, I'd agree scenario A feels a bit unlikely for him. Although Korin-Z might have ended up too broken and in Eileen's case by now it just feels that MW wanted to NTR her fans. If there's time for shit like Burbaba^, Fujisaka could be arsed to draw some actual new art for Eileen...

True to the genre of these "games", your resources will be eaten up by your upgrades for quite a while, without much sense of accomplishment. Sooner or later though you'll easily reach the point where money becomes the least of your worries.
For starters, send out Adventurers on requests to gain fairies with beneficial bonuses, try to fulfill lots of quests from Luke (20 Pushcat tickets for each) and try to make some dosh with Red/Blue potions depending on your shield count. Later on, the real money can actually be made with Yellow potions, but only with the last 3-2 formulas and with the help of the yellow candle-fairy. At that point though, shields and pots breaking should be the least of your worries, given the ridiculously high success rate of yellows.

CC is still doing okay in Japan, it is sadly still one of Sega's top grossing mobile games which isn't really saying much. Player base still roughly ~100k so they are continuing to churn out events, and new units, but there hasn't been any major changes in the last year and half. Supposedly a large update is coming out at the end of July.
Hortensia Saga is definitely the new focus though, that said it's not doing that much better than CC at the moment.

F2P here too. I got lucky and rolled Merlin and the Golem, Fafnir and two Zir. With everything vialed that is not Rune, neutral and Dragon, I could make 90% of the number one players Dragon deck, and scrap together an okay Rune deck.
Two decks is definitive viable as long as you get the good roll from your rerolling. Just don´t expect the second deck to be competitive steamroller and build it up slow. But yeah, I wanted to try Sword and did another account since three crafts is crazy for F2P at launch.

Their activation skill are not the same though. Ilyada is rear attack while Yung is target weakest. I mean, I dunno how others play but for me, positioning is really huge because I can't seem to overpower the stage 10 and above death matches so I have to study the enemy positions and decide which one I want dead first so target last row vs target weakest is a pretty big deal to me.
