NMS in a little more than a month. How do you think Ftroop will draw players back after they jump ship?
NMS has better implemented trade, and more meaningful exploration. The only things elite has on it is actual multiplayer if you can call it that.
>>
>>146534550
Yeah, if you can call it that. Instancing is damned near non functional and everyone plays in Solo anyways. So hard to find people. It's gonna be interesting.

Thing is, Ftroop seems to have their heads so far up their asses they might not be able to recover is NMS does well.
>>
>>146534550
Either they're going to mark Horizons down to 10 dollars or they simply won't. They are delaying updates for their finished product the same way Star Citizen is delaying updates for its incomplete product.
>>
So Sandro thinks "player colonization makes sense". How hard will Sandro and co fuck up colonization? Let's hear detailed scenarios.

>>146536046

Consider the amount of materials/difficulty aquiring said materials/time consumed to just upgrade one single module with an engineer. One. Single. Module.

Now consider the size of a space station. Or less ambitiously, a surface station. They won't have to make any "mistakes"; if they design the colonisation system the same way as the engineers, no one will have access to it anyway because it'll be locked behind literally years of grinding for construction materials.
>>
>>146547917
The assumption is they learned engineers was a mistake from some of their most vocal supporters telling them so and they won't be as retarded with stations.

Then again it is FTroop
>>
>>146548127

NMS on release will have it's own general I suppose. Then just wait until playerbase stabilizes to see if they can maintain their own general.

>>
>>146554269
In the vaguest sense of the word.

You can blunder across another player.
A group of friends can expend the effort to find each other and play together.
But there are no systems in place to allow players across the galaxy to group up and find each other, or teleport to each other.

It is conceivable that months after launch players have managed to set up hub systems, but even then those hubs will be like drops in an ocean.

I'm actually going to argue that elite at 1.0 and NMS are identical as multiplayer design goes. The only difference that the size of the starting area and the populated area in elite is tiny compared to NMS and supposedly the NMS universe is much larger overall as well.

Anon, the point is that ED is marketed as a finished product. Tell me, what looks worse? Delaying updates for a finished product or delays for an incomplete game? I would say that's why I'm a lot more harsh with ED, because they market it like a complete one and keep fucking it up.

They don't ever learn from their mistakes.

They've been multiplicatively compounding bonus on bonus or RNG on RNG since the alpha tests, resulting in exploits, frustrating difficulty curves or just utterly unacceptable levels of timesink.

It's not even about EVE's gameplay. A lot of people agree EVE is a very time-demanding game and some people stray away simply because of the timesink and content that is gated behind time locks like skill training. After playing both though, EVE gives me more sense of being able to use my time to do something useful, even if that time is very short. In Elite, I basically just fly around or mindlessly collect Engineer mats which, after hours of searching, could turn out to be all for nothing all because of a bad dice roll. I saw a lot of people saying on the forums that Elite "doesnt respect their time" and I didnt quite fully understand what they meant until I thought about it and compared it to other games.
>>
What is the best medium combat ship? FDL? Vulture?
>>
>>146580874

Vulture is small.

And very power-constrained since they didn't buff it like they did the FDL.
>>
>>146580990

Ah, ok. Any other contenders? Python?
>>
>>146582774
FDL is the king. Huge shields, good hardpoints, best speed and maneuverabilty.

FAS is the runner up, it has everything the FDL has except the shields, you have to run it shieldless.

Python and Dropship are both useable, in fact I'm running a railgun dropshit myself at the moment and it's super fun.
>>
>>146565394
First you'll need your player faction to be controlling a system, have a ticket approved by braben, purchase a base design from the cash shop and then you can spend a few billion credits to fund it. Then you'll need to buy and transport a gorillion units of various materials, components and colonists (who are just renamed tourists). This will have to be done in under a certain amount of time or you "abandon construction", and then you'll have to wait for 6 months for it to be built. After this you'll have a station on a planet with 1 small landing pad with no services, but you can buy a station paint job (only 9.99 for each bulding). Now you can start gathering credits and commodities to build additional landing pads and install services so you can actually refuel there. Then you have to keep stocking the station manually untill you reach a certain level that allows trade routes to be added, but watch out for black markets as you cant get rid of them and they cause your supplies to dissapear faster. If you dont keep supply levels in the black the station is abandoned. If all this seems unreasonable its because you're entitled and supposed to have help from other players in your faction, base building isnt ment to be completed by groups of less than 50.

Now you have your own station, so sit back, relax and buy it a faction name paint job for only 5.99. The in game benefits of building a station is your factions name is on it. Just hope a rival faction doesnt take it over or you'll have to start again.

Right on, CMDRs o7

>>146583025
>best speed and maneuverabilty.

FAS is more maneuverable than FDL and has stronger lateral thrusters.

>you have to run it shieldless.

Depends on how long you want to remain in combat. You could put a biweave shield on it as a buffer since it regenerates, but don't invest heavily in shield strength since it's shit overall.
>>
>>146580523

I probably should have been more clear with my sarcasm.

Forum dad defense is broken into a very few select answers when answering to criticism.

>This isn't EVE
>4 pips to systems
>just wait and things will come to you
>you shouldn't grind
>just play the game
>people with money just grief
>he makes youtube/twitch/hitbox revenue because of this game

The dads want the game full of artificial game lengtheners, because they seem to think that is going to keep people buying into the game and supporting continued development. If it wasn't for Sothis runs finally getting me into an Anaconda, I probably would have gone back to apexis daily grinding in WoW, because I get more out of that compared to farming materials that may or may not appear. To the dads we are guilty of liking how other games handle stuff in a relatively consistent manner. We should be forced to enjoy the dad's toy the way they do, even if there is massive potential for the game to exist in a state where the dads are just as happy with the game as rest of us.

Two questions as someone that has heard about this game and is interested in it:

Is the game subscription-based or do I have to pay once to play (And possibly pay for subsequent expansions)?

Is the game (or at least the travelling segments) as god-tier comfy as it looks in the videos I've seen of it?
>>
Patch when?

>>146590229
Single purchase with annual expansions/DLC and cosmetics.

And yeah pretty much, if you like space games give it a shot. Probably don't buy Horizons until you're sure you like it.
>>
>>146590229

You buy the game and you can play for free. In order to do anything Horizons related you need to buy the horizons season pass. Frontier does expansion cycles in "seasons" which are covered by season passes.

You can't buy individual "expansions."

It looks comfy until you have to fly 300,000Ls in real time.

Pay once to play, but with expansions that arent worth buying. If you want to buy it then wait for the last day of the steam sale as the best prices are then.

Flying about and landing at stations is enjoyable at first, but you do it so much its gets old quick. To get between stations you have to supercruise, the only mechanic to that is learning how long you can be alt-tabbed for before overshooting.

AI haven't been able to dock for a while. That is, if you stay in a station long enough they stop functioning properly and the station eventually destroys them as they linger in there doing nothing.

>>
>>146613867

I've suggested a while back that missions should generate small outposts/stations out in nowhere space that you fight around, along with rock formations and interesting layouts. Kind of take the layout of a lot of CQC maps and work it into the mission system so those would pop up for missions to give them some flavor instead of

>hurr interdict
>hurr CZ in the middle of nowhere with nothing around it
>hurr no battles like in the fucking trailer of the game where you battle around stations
>>

>>
>>146614375

Salvaging is pretty shit anyways. Dads think that destroying a ship and scooping the loot is salvaging.

>you will never rip apart the remnants of a Majestic cruiser with a salvage beam for Engineer parts and rare salvage to sell for huge profits
>>
>>146614569
>Rip apart the remnants of a cruiser

Just gotta suggest this to Fdev. Sounds like another great opportunity for more RNG to be incorporated into the game

>Take mission from someone to get specific components from the remnants of a capital ship
>Get there and start blasting it apart looking for said components
>RNG gives you everything but them components

Fdev and the dads would love it.
>>
>>146614850

I could not give a fuck, atleast it would be something else to do that isn't driving a shitty buggy around flat landscapes or hopelessly clubbing traders praying they drop what I need. They could also make it a thing where you can man the salvage turret yourself.

>go up to a ship wreck
>scan it with a module or something
>it gives you lines or connect-the-dots type thing that you need to cut
>have to be very precise to do it correctly without damaging the components
>can man the turret yourself, which leaves you vulnerable
>cut the piece, scoop up the salvage, rinse repeat

Knowing FD they would make the salvage completely not worth the effort, maybe 200cr a ton or something stupid like that, and they'll make it like mining where you just hit the wreck with your beam and shit flies out, just like mining, because making neat gameplay is hard.

I wonder which chucklefuck over at FD thought the Cobra MkIV was a good candidate for the pirate AI template. Who exactly are they supposed to catch in that thing, and how are they supposed to make a quick getaway?

On a semi-related note, Keelback smugglers have surprisingly high bounties given how weak the ship is.

the Cobra IV is garbage
>>
>>146634485
The viper 4 is pretty sub par desu.
Same 4 maneuver of the cobra but without upgraded weapons. Like, replacing the two smalls with 2 mediums would make it good, but it has the same 2small/2med of the viper 3.

Especially considering you can fit a slightly less multipurpose Dback scout for more than double the maneuver and a little bit more jump range at about half the price, or an imperial courier with its massive shields, still more maneuver than the viper or cobra, and arguably the same weapons loadout as the viper (3 med vs 2 and 2)

FTroop painted themselves into a corner with the Cobra 3. They can't balance it as it should be compared to the viper 3 because dads would get mad. The Viper 3 was originally the fastest ship in the game at 500m/s boost, but it was nerfed because dads complained they couldn't escape them in their dadbra.

The maneuverability rating in outfitting is arbitrary bullshit. The Clipper out-turns a Viper MkIII despite having a score of 2 vs 6.

There's a bit of a disconnect between what the game allows and what systems are in place to support.

NMS certainly allows multiplayer, it's just built in such a way that it's super unlikely to happen, at least in the infancy of the game before people get super long range jump drives.

Elite is supposed to be focused on multiplayer, except it's not really supported in any way and you're outright punished for trying to do missions or trade in groups.

Biggest size (3 for an eagle) and highest grade (A). You can see jump min/current/max at the bottom of the outfitting screen. When you go to frame shift drives and browse the shop you can see those numbers change when you hover over the different drives available.

Min is you jump range fully weighed down with cargo and fuel. Current is what you can do at your weight right now, and max is what you can do with zero cargo and just barely enough fuel to make the jump.

Also, fuel scoop if you don't want to get stranded. (dotted lines on the map start where your fuel runs out)

How much money do you have? Back when I started the game and I was space-poor and wanted to relocate to another part of the bubble, I would sell my ship and purchase a long-jumper hauler, and then re-buy my combat ship at my new destination. With an A class FSD and D rated everything else, you can reach ~30 LY jump ranges.

I think you only need a few hundred thousand credits for a basic long jumper hauler. A bit over a mil if you splurge on quality of life stuff like the max size fuel scoop it can carry and an A rated power plant so that you run cool near stars while scooping.

>>146643627
>the uh, line on my map is a lot straighter

The worst thing about having a short jump range is how your course snakes all over the place and makes the route even longer than the difference between a longer jump range would suggest.

>even if I have to turn off a couple things to stop my ship taking a nap

If you're not actively scooping cargo canisters you can just shut off the cargo hatch, or at least set it to a lower (higher number) power priority so it shuts down when you deploy hardpoints. The hatch takes a lot of power on small ships.
>>
>>146643940

They took away their gatling railguns and dumbed them back down to sub-Red-Baron levels.
>>
>>146643940
Ok. You're nearing the point where you can purchase a long jump in a hauler when you feel like flying to the other side of the bubble to follow the community goals.

It's good to have insurance money because we will make fun of you if you die without insurance.

When traveling, make sure that you have a fuel scoop so that you don't get stranded. I generally put at least a small scoop on anything, but combat ships operating at short ranges or trade ships traversing a known route don't need them.

Another thing to remember: KGB-FOAM. Those are the classes of stars that you can scoop fuel from. If your fuel tank starts getting low, open your star map and make a detour to a KGB-FOAM star that is more or less along your route.
>>
my journey begins, warping right up next to stars is as disconcerting as ever.
>>
>>146644763
There's generally not much to fear unless you're jumping towards a neutron star.

That or you get VISIONED into a closely orbiting binary star like >>146592139 . I've heard reports that if the VISION is extra bright, that you can exit inside of the secondary star and just instantly die. That's never happened to me, but I used to have a trade route that looked like it was about to kill me every dozen runs or so.

The feds are close to winning that war so if you're in it for the credits you'll want to fight on their side and turn in combat bonds at Knights Port.

Even just making it out of the bottom 1% of contributors on the fed side means you'll make over a million credits.
>>
>>146646898
Turn in a mil in bounties and it puts you in the top 25% too.

But every CG just highlights the problem. They're perpetually one sided because the instant one side eeks ahead everyone jumps ship to that side to rack up the biggest reward.
