There's little to no advertisement and they don't go p2w, nor do they have a system that forces people to spend real money unless they want to wait forever for a new merc or sick loadouts. It kinda seems like Splash Damage's morbid plan is to keep the game alive through working on other projects and then keep adding to it, hoping it breaks through with a nice marketing push at just the right time. Personally hoping they can cull Overwatch and TF2 players who get tired of those games and want something with more skill.
They're lucky the game is good enough that it isn't bleeding players, and every event and promotion they gain some. I still play a few hours each day, but I wish I had more reasons to play subsequent matches.

Yes. Fragger is still arguably the strongest merc. He's been properly nerfed enough times to where he's still strongest, but there's not a ridiculous gap anymore.
When Thunder got buffed I thought Fragger would finally share the throne with another merc. I got really sick of seeing a Fragger on every pug and comp team. I thought maybe Thunder would occasionally replace Fragger, or they'd both be used. Unfortunately, instead of sharing the throne, people consider Thunder with a Stark to be overpowered, so he's often banned in pugs and competitive games. Which means, Fragger is still picked and always there.
Fragger is a good choice.

Quick draw and failsafe go together for that quick mine drop into manual detonation(which can be done earlier in relative safety due to your fail safe perk). With looter for getting supplies off medics and ammo fags you run across and kill while flanking.

It means once the game is actually finished being built, there will be a large marketing push.
Development is slow because they have a small team and not a lot of money, but it's not like the devs have abandoned the game, they just are not updating it frequently.
Consider it the Project Zomboid of shooters I suppose. Updates aren't frequent, but they are there.
