That was literally the point of the game, anon. The entire game is about YOU being a SIDE-CHARACTER. The game is meant to reflect that attitude as well. The only thing in Jill's life that matters are her friends, her bills, and her emotional problems.

I can appreciate the moments of foreshadowing that hinted "this'll be a thing later" like the intro where she gets the letter, or when the boss sees the photo in chapter 2 and Jill layer says she wants to make amends, but the way out was handled beyond that felt out of the blue, heavy handed, and like it had nothing to do with everything else we had seen in the game prior.
What I didn't appreciate was that they had built this interesting setting with fun characters going through their own shit only to say "nah we're done with all that, hey let's spend the final third of the game focusing on two small details from earlier" at the end of it.

Her story was explained in Dorothy's ending. She'sDorothy's mom's real daughter who died. She IS real because that one random lilim can see her, and in Dorothy's ending, Dorothy hears her say something to Jill, but thinks it was someone off in the distance. She had that nanomachine rejection shit, but survived (losing her arm inthe process) it only to get hit by a truck and die.

I do think that by and large the biggest fault of this game is how some of the story elements were part of the demo and prologue, something that the audience by and large who hasn't been following this game won't see. From the very beginning, the game makes sure to let you know that the theme isn't of you figuring out a grand scheme or mystery, or overthrowing a political regime, or anything of the sort. You are a side-character. None of that is really important, nor is it every elaborated on, and that's done intentionally. You're just a lonely woman with some issues and concerns about your rent.

Not at all. The way out was foreshadowed with the letter. If you were expecting a sappy story, well, surprise? People don't always do that shit. But heavy-handed it was not, and considering the middle of the game dealt with this issue for what was maybe a full week? No, it wasn't anything we hadn't seen prior. Honestly, it sounds like you're either butthurt about not getting all your loose ends tied up, which again is not what the game is about, or you didn't read/listen to anything going on.
Considering your last sentence, I would probably suggest the former.

It's more like an interactive movie than a game, but hell that's pretty much what Vallhalla is. I would say play the superior PC-98 version, but I don't know if there's an English translation for it out there.
You could also give Snatcher on the Sega CD a go too, since they're both Kojima games and have that look that you're probably going for.
