I don't know what to think about Lance in Gen. I like the new 3rd attack, but it's much more punishable than the old one. WIth Adept you lose the fast counter that helps keeping you keep poking, and on Adept, while it's fun to counter, it feels a bit weak. also the loss of shield advance is a shame. Strikers constant charge is boring. Going to main HH, but Lance have always been a favorite weapon of mine.

140 Shaggy's ground slam even one shots blademasters; I think you need about 850 defense to survive it at 150 HP. It's the only time I use a defense honed weapon, because it can be sneaky and sometimes I can't dodge it, and sometimes isn't acceptable when it one shots you.
But to answer your question, you either shouldn't gun in 140s outside of hame, or you should just not get hit. Defense honing and/or a blademaster helmet will probably save you from a few one shots if you insist on doing it, but you should still play extremely safely.

I've been watching some Generations gameplay videos... And the monsters seem to hit like wet cardboard.
I just watched one of a guy hunting Lagi and he never bothers to heal because each hit (each big hit, not just chip damage) does such a tiny sliver of his health bar. This was the most egrigious, but most videos I've seen have been similar. Attacks just don't seem to do much damage.
Was he just using upgraded HR armor against a LR monster? Do the monsters ever start to hit hard?

I am someone who loves using Gunlance. But in this demo, I'm actually having quite some difficulties getting in the groove with it. I tried Striker because triple pokes but... I keep doing X, X, X+A still anyway, which is probably still stronger.
Also never seem to find an opening for the hunter arts. And it sucks how Dragon Breath prevents you from using Wyvern Fire.
Adept Gunlance well, I just don't like it that much due to it being very tight. Call me bad, but I don't like it.

Bow is literally the easiest weapon, there's no way you'd need to have an extremely over the top set for it. Go with something that gives you more overall movement and damage, or go mounting master if you REALLY need a crutch. Dead kushy in less than 10 minutes with excessive mounting.

Like what that anon said, definitely give yourself as many crutches (Evasion mostly) so you can poke monsters to hell with ease. Counter attacks you know can be followed up with a few pokes, especially tail swipes or charges.
And most importantly, use lances with high status or element. Your base damage is shit, and should not be considered when fighting anything strong.

How would you feel if, when hunting with 3 or more players, instead of failing a quest after any combination of players cart three times, each player can only cart once before they're out of commission for the rest of the hunt? Quests would fail when all hunters are out of commission. Carted hunters would be able to choose whether to spectate or return from the hunt immediately. If the quest is successful, they receive somewhat diminished quest rewards (which are sent to their item box if they didn't stay to the end of the hunt).

Slime/blast is beyond broken in MH3U, so using any of Brach's weapons is highly recommended. In particular, the DS and SnS are good since they're able to apply slime at a super fast rate.

Poison deals a fixed amount of damage over a period of time, and it's fixed per monster. Any MH database has the exact numbers, but many monsters are succeptible to Poison, so it's a safe bet.
But Slimeblight is borderline broken in 3U, it's almost like Poison, but it deals all the damage at once instead of chipping over time. Slime is pretty good and useful in any fight.
Other status weapon that's cool, is Paralysis, since it gives you openings to bigger combos. Sleep is not all that great when you're solo, but if you DO use it, remember that Bombs deal 3 times the damage on the first hit upon any sleeping monster.
