Question for you /hg/, what's the most austistic shit you've ever done related to Halo?
Mine is replaying all Halo 3 campaign mission over and over trying to save as many marines as possible and forcing them to follow me as far as the mission let me.
Pic related, 17 rescued marines after many hours and replays of Tsavo Highway.
Another one was on Floodgate, where i forced the surviving marines to advance through the mission by spending dozens of minutes pushing them around.
I also remember bringing 1 ODST all the way through The Ark and The Covenant up to almost the end of each level before they just disappeared.

mappers and content creators have rebuilt entire original story campaigns, giant AI battles, even variations of firefight. any compeitive multiplayer usually revolves around the main set of well made and historically popular maps, found on that site under 'most downloaded of all time'

Done exactly that but in Halo: CE. Sometimes at the start of Silent Cartographer I'd see how many marines I could kill before they'd turn on me and shoot me, then I'd let them kill me.

Back when I only had an xbox and internet connection, I would just replay the missions from the Halo 2 campaign over and over again. Sometimes I would try to save every elite or grunt in the arbiter's missions. I didn't usually do that with the marines. For some reason, I always held "covenant" lives over the marines.
I actually discovered the IWHBYD skull by myself too but I never managed to kill all the elites that rushed at me.

my greatest accomplishment to that vein is saving as many warehouse employees in the storm as i could and equipping them all with reasonable weapons
im not sure how i did it because i have yet to duplicate it, but i somehow got the hunters to not shoot the fusion coils when the big door opens near the end, preventing like 10 or so workers from being blown up
just for fun though on tsavo highway i fill up the transport hog so that every passenger has fuel rods, and then do the same with the scorpion during the assault on the citadel in the covenant

When I did get a connection, it was sometime in 2007 or 2008, about 2 years before they took down the servers. Before that happened I started playing Halo 3.

Oh yeah i missed that one. If you play on easy you can save around 15 civilians/marines before charging the hill with the AA gun at the end of the mission.

It's perfectly feasable that people didn't pick up CE until a couple of years later when they were older but the age is still relevant. For example, all of the people arguing about multiplayer of older games who wouldn't have been teens when they were in their prime like 2.

But I did play 2, locally, but I did play it. I didn't play it online until about 2013 or something when the xbox classic servers were going down.
I'd say 5 is it's own beast, never could argue that some games were better because I just really like Halo. I thought it was dumb as hell trying to say which games were better when they were each they're own separate beings. The only ones that were similar to each other are Reach and 4.

The overwhelming majority of people that dropped Halo 4 did so because it didn't have the replayability and playstyle of Call of Duty, which had taken Halo's spot in the sun years earlier.

Except it was bad. I never defended Halo 4. I'm simply stating the fact that it didn't lose its population because it "wasn't like Halo" or whatever. The overwhelming majority of the Halo 3 playerbase were PS2 babbies that jumped ship to 360 when it became the new Normie console and then just as quickly jumped ship to COD. They tried out Halo 4 when it launched and it just didn't do it for them.
Halo's actual core fanbase of people that really care about the franchise is much smaller than you think.

I can't tell you how many people like to meme about how Halo 3 had at one point 8 million players, so they do some retarded math and figure that there's 7.5+ million displaced Halo fans out there waiting for the series to go back to its roots.
The fact is that COD killed Halo's popularity, and 343 could have made the best Halo game yet with 4, and it wouldn't have fared much better. Cod cracked the casual code by providing constant rewards for players as well as having a gameplay system where even newcomers can score kills and get lucky. Halo had its time in the sun as the most popular shooter. That's not coming back.

I say this as a hypothetical statement but at this point I truly believe that 6 will be the lowest selling Halo game thus far. Which is a real shame because I fucking love the series, hell I loved SpOps and 4 and reach despite the glaring flaw.
