This game attracted a lot of the MOBA people, which is a pretty well known cesspool. TF2 was never super popular like league and even when it went F2P, I guess the existing community was big enough to keep the assholes in check.
The game modes in TF2 also helped in that a lot of people said fuck it to the objective and just dicked around. With servers you also tended to run into the same people.

Hanzos who run away is a relief since he can definitely fuck you up in two seconds because his drawback speed is only .5 seconds for full 150 damage
