I've never really put much though into it, to be honest. The image I have in my mind is more about espionage and infiltration, but also about stealth, so I'm guessing there should be a mechanic to manipulate people and move up the ranks of organizations, and also use stealth to help you out and maybe do the final hit.

I imagine (I could ask one of the designers maybe but I doubt they'd remember anything) that DiC assumed (having not seen Amy's design yet) that the large muzzle Sonic had was a more masculine feature. Male characters tend to have stronger jawlines and prominent noses in animation and cartoons while females tend to be more dainty in those regards. As such they designed Breezie and Penelope with that in mind as well as giving them more of a figure. It's not too far from how the female dogs in Sherlock Hound are basically women with dog noses while the males are more animalistic.

IIRC they thought that's how it was supposed to be because of Sonic CD promotional material so they just went with it.
StC typically went with SoA/SoE promotional materials for the actual games when it came to their own artstyle, while the Archie comics initially went with a hybrid SatAM/AoStH artstyle.

the show is being developed by the cw and warner brothers. there's nothing being taken from the publishing line to fund it. it's a money maker for archie, not a money drainer. that's how tv licensing works.
if a comic isn't making a profit, it gets canceled or retooled. that's why the archie, jughead and betty and veronica books ended and were relaunched. so they can make money. sonic and sonic universe are still making money. so they continue to exist.
in the last month archie has announced a second one-shot for sonic, their trade paperbacks are being produced again (with two in the next two weeks coming out) a new josie and the pussycats comic, and SDCC is a month away.
things are looking up, not down. but feel free to keep spreading rumors to gullible people online and read the scans without paying for the books.

I think it's been haywire for a bit, classic portrayals have either been fully shown, shadowed completely or an amalgamation of classic and modern.
We had classic Eggman and even Julian in the first reboot issue, and then shadowed Eggman in the Snively backstory, and then NOT-Classic Eggman in part 1 of Naugus and totes-classic Eggman in part 2.
Meanwhile young Sonic's eyes keep changing.
I think they've finally got it worked out now, is good. Don't see any reason why it now would change back.

I hate to pull on TV Tropes, but it's literally gameplay and story segregation. Cream is only "unstoppable" because she's the cheap, easy character. She was meant to be the pick for little kids to play as. Her actual CHARACTER isn't supposed to be some singular globetrotting hero who destroys everything in her path. She is literally a nice polite little kid. That's why she's pretty much always paired with someone else who's LOOKING AFTER HER.
