Wew alright so I just finished DaS for the first time. Only thing is I was working on the DLC and Artorias when eventually I just said "alright maybe I'll kill gwyn instead" and did, but I didn't realise it instantly puts you in NG+. Is there any way to go back there straight away on the same save (as in not NG+ him because I'd probably get destroyed) or am I just fucked?

Offhand crossbows destroy tradefishers (not that it's a great way to play in the first place). The Avelyn is good but firing three bolts takes longer, which means you'll have to reload later, which means you'll possibly miss a chance to reload it if your opponent isn't stuned by the third bolt, causing you to end up passing up an opportunity to shoot later on due to your bow being unloaded.
If you're the sort of person who only takes guaranteed shots in the first place this is fine, as you'll have as much time as any other crossbow if you land the last bolt. In general, it just depends on personal preference. Worry about the moveset more than the output.

Faith doesn't affect the damage of knight's crossbow or lightning bolts. It has AoE if you're in water.

Can't have your cake and eat it too. DLC gems should be plenty for random invasions. In FCs though, people are pretty much always going to have the best shit.
The easiest way to do it is just get a full set of DLC gems. Then when you get bored, go farm "one" chalice gem to replace one of your DLC gems, then just go back to playing. When You get bored again, Do it for your next gem slot and so on. Eventually, you'll have a full set of chalice gems without burning yourself out.
Alternatively, host gemless FCs.

Spent like 20 minutes on the last fight and he only did a handful of those flying attacks, of which only one ended up with the tail smash. The others were the turn around fire shit and the tail swipe.
I even fully upgraded a black knight halberd for this purpose and I can't even get near his tail Each time he does either the calamity attack or the non-rotating fire attack, I can't run to his tail fast enough and despite the range on this halberd, my attacks still end up missing.
I have no idea how I managed to do this on my previous character.

Yesterday I decided to get the Drakesword in DS1 for the first time. (In NG+5, it's just for completion I guess.) In German its description is kinda weird.
The thing is, the German language doesn't differentiate between dragon and drake, it only has the word "Drache", so the Drakesword in German is called "Gerades Drachenschwert" (straight dragon sword, but they probably mean dragon straight sword, the German translation is pretty bad at times.)
Now obviously the description needs to be adjusted to that fact. It goes something like "A sword made from the tail of a dragon who has gone hollow." Now what the fuck do I make of this? Is it maybe more faithful to the nip original, or did they just pull that out of their asshole?

Rather than just be sensible game devs and give hyperarmor a clear set of defined rules regarding what it can withstand, and what it cannot withstand, it's arbitrary and context specific in such an arcane and esoteric way that you never really know WHY something staggers you out of hyperarmor, and can never predict WHEN it will happen.
Use any hyperarmor weapon extensively and you'll be baffled at the sheer number of times you lose a fight because a longsword R1 or katana running attack magically cracks through late-animation hyperarmor.

Frustrations aside, I miss cutting of tails and things for Boss weapons.
Transposition is of course, the simplest way of creating boss weapons, but I feel it's less interesting.
It'd also be nice if they returned to the idea that you infuse a weapon with a soul, rather than just have the weapon come from the soul.

Hollows found souls within the First Flame and thus birthed the race that is generally referred to as Gods.
I'm going to guess that the Silver and Black Knights are technically of the God race, although clearly lesser varieties. Same goes for Artorias, Ornstein and Smough etc.
The Pygmy was a Hollow, like all the others, but found the Dark Soul instead, splitting it up and giving it to whatever other hollows hadn't become part of the God race.
At least, this is my understanding.

Because being able to take actions freely without being interrupted mechanically undermines the combat system and introduces innumerable balance issues in both pvp and pve.
Design-wise, poise's only positive function is to make slow weapons able to perform well in circumstances where their speed would otherwise compromise their performance. Hyperarmor accomplishes this in a better way than poise does and doesn't introduce any of the issues that poise does, like being able to facetank pve with high HP/defense/effective hp through healing or being able to turn pvp matches into dps races by stacking poise on fast weapons like curved swords, straightswords, etc. or enabling poisestabs as a hardcounter to slow weapons.
The biggest issue with poise is that it should not always be active, because complete, constant, passive stagger resistance not only trivializes the game's difficulty, but also breaks down its combat mechanics into "mash R1 whenever you want, chug estus whenever you want, enemy attacks mean nothing unless they can 1-shot you." The other issue is that some weapons, especially the small and fast ones that are already functional, should not be able to access stagger resistance. Poise is indiscriminate, and small weapons make better use of it than the ones that actually need it, increasing the perfoance gap between slow weapons and fast ones instead of closing it. Hyperarmor allows stagger resistance to be context and weapon-specific, ensuring it's only active on a meaningful, limited, timing-based circumstance and only accessed by weapons which absolutely need it.

Don't be surprised if they put chalice dungeons in the DLC too because miyazaki seems determined to bring all the shit things about bloodborne into DS3. But God forbid we have powerstancing or mixed moveset weapons, and hey Dks1 had blocking with offhand weapons rather than attacking so yep that's coming back too.
It's easier to stun lock bosses in this game than it was to stagger lots of regular enemies in the first game. NG+ old demon king literally can never attack you as long as you keep swinging, it's so stupid.

I have almost 70 hours in the game, it's by no means bad by triple A title standards especially in this day and age of sixty dollars for six hours of actual content.

The problem with poise was a combination of END being too good as well as there being little tradeoff. It'd honestly be good to have poise if in order to gather any significant amounts of it you had to give up your ability to medium roll or heavily have to invest into a stat. Hyperarmor forces characters with dex weapons to weave in and out when facing hyperarmor weapons, or else get fucked by hyperarmor trades.
Poise does not. Poise gives dex characters access to constant passive hyperarmor, which allows them to approach heavy weapons and mash R1, confident that their weapon's higher DPS will win out and forcing the heavy weapon use to weave in and out to evade the unstaggerable DPS juggernaut that is a 2H curved sword with poise.
Point of fact, dex weapons require a smaller stat investment than heavy weapons, because their damage/stamina ratio is much, much more efficient. Because stamina is less of a limiting factor, dex weapons don't need as much for their weapons to function, which gives them spare points to put towards vitality to stack heavier armor. Their weapons are also lighter, m,eaning more of their total carry weight can be put towards armor and poise. Heavy weapons both require a larger investment in endurance even to just be able to swing twice, as well as consuming more of your character's total vitality. At the same level, a dex build will have significantly more poise and higher defense than a heavy weapon-using strength build.
DaS1-style poise greatly benefits dex weapons and offers minimal benefit for heavy weapons, which now must contend with unstaggerable dex weapons.

It fucks over HA weapons because the stagger part of the jump and the headshot itself both break hyperarmor, while the jump itself has hyperarmor that withstands 2H ultra weapon R1s. You can WA on-reaction to a UGS R1 and interrupt it or HA through it to trigger the headshot combo for 90% of their health.
Dodging it isn't the problem, the problem is that the near-instant stagger and HA means that it's never safe to attack someone using it outside of punishing a poorly spaced normal attack, but they have no reason top use normal attacks when they can just fish for the WA, which is safe if it whiffs.

I love the long spear and am an expert at using it, and can even play around parrying exceptionally well (I mean, I've had a ton of practice as you might imagine). But when EVERY. FUCKING. MATCH. devolves into the opponent just trying to parry me the whole time, it gets really tiring. Yeah I usually just swap to a spear to dunk on them. I don;t think it;s a real counter but most of the katanafaggots I encounter cannot into spacing and are crutching too hard on their gimmick to avoid needing to space properly. Having something long and fast enough to put pressure on them causes them to fall apart because they don't actually know how to play.
Against someone who's actually good, it's much less fun.

At least a dagger attacks fast as fuck. Spears are too notorious for being easy to parry. The long spear in particular (a pike class weapon) doesn't even get the running R1 poke, it's a garbage mini-charge.
Don't get me wrong, I still play it because I love the weapon and playstyle, I still win all the time despite it's reputation for being easy to parry (mostly with a combination of feints, running R2's, and charged R2's), it just gets really old when an entire match devolves into the opponent trying to parry until they die.
At least with a dagger you attack fast as fuck, though to be fair the long spear hits like a truck with it's pure physical damage.

Playing as a caster as opposed to melee, at least in my case, inverts which bosses were hard and easy. Both Gundyrs were a joke but the Crystal Sage and Aldrich were a bitch. The only reason Abyss Watchers and Twin Princes was due to Watchers 1st phase becoming a surprise gank and Twin Prince teleporting.

Your endurance sucks for the size of weapon you're using, but otherwise you should be having absolutely no trouble. I used the same weapon through that part of the game on my first playthrough and I was a considerably lower level.

If you plan to keep using that sword, take 5 (or 6) points out of STR and put it into END.
The OWCS is a DEX scaling weapon, so only bump up STR for weapon requirements.
