Riot and Blizzard both have political agendas, and to make matters worse, both games have balance issues and league has less positive and negative feedback mechanisms.
The end result is a game that is attractive to special snowflakes because they can pick whoever is top tier at the moment (and top tier in Riot and Blizzard games is usually 2 heroes, with the vast majority of heroes in the worst two tiers) and they never have to get good.

A buddy from TF2 bought me overwatch to try and find a game we could both enjoy.
It's not as bad as it should have been, but it's still hideously unbalanced.
Almost all the skills are dota skills, to the point that it's easier to explain balance problems to dota players than it is people who actually play overwatch.
The magnus clone is ungodly, his Reverse Polarity analog is objectively as good if not better than any of the other teamfight stuns in the game, which are jammed onto supports and tanks with worse hp and skills than him. The freezing field knockoff and blackhole knockoff skills do the exact same thing, but for some reason Magnus clone gets best group stun, highest burst damage on his Magnus charge ripoff skill, 3rd highest hp in game, 100% movement speed, and a fucking 2000 damage recharging shield.
They also really really need to justify picking the two supports that aren't the witch doctor clone and the Io clone, game has a version of slardar who amps damage on enemy and lowers damage on your team, but reincarnate, healing aura, empowering haste, and damage boost-overcharge ripoff skill are just too much better.
Game kinda feels like early DotA 1 in terms of balance issues. Too many heroes can do too much and need to split into multiple heroes. In RoC Dota Riki was Riki AND Witch Doctor, "Astral Trekker"(spirit breaker) was Ursa AND Spirit Breaker AND Tiny and CM frostbite, Nightstalker was Nightstalker and DP and his ult was basically 2x empowering haste aura.
Game is fun, but needs lots of work.

TCP/IP networked games base their logic and communications on "ticks" which is basically how the game server deals with time and logic. Tick rate is high enough in most games you don't notice this much, but almost all online games aren't fluid, but split into a certain number of logic ticks per second.
To save money, blizzard made the tickrate in Overwatch absurdly fucking low, 23 is the number I hear the most. Keep in mind that TF2 and CS:GO are 60 and still have problems like the ticks being too slow to catch a bunny hop or in TF2 getting sniped through corners.
The level of how bad this is in Overwatch is worse than in any other mainstream game though.
If you've ever seen batrider lasso someone from out of range in dota or pudge dismember someone from double range, that's what's happening, the thing is though it's so bad in overwatch you have to do things like use the Weaver time lapse ripoff skill EARLY to avoid the server tick logic, LITERALLY REWINDING YOUR HEALS AND KILLING YOU WHERE YOU WERE STANDING BEFORE YOU TIME LAPSED.
It can be infuriating, the fastest hero, has to account for this at least 10 times a game to play at a high skill level.

You realize the game has been swinging the other way for 3 patches now right?
You realize prior to this "making 50 heroes useless" serious of patches the only viable carries were agility heroes, something people had been complaining about for literally 4 years all based on the simple fact that building the agi stat has better ROI than improving any other stat.
We're working towards a good place right now, lots of heroes are viable right now, even if the core pool is kinda small. The core pool has been smaller before though.
Be aware too that the game has been powercreeping for an entire decade as well, IceFrog has always balanced this way, look at a middle of the road hero like CM's changelog and you'll see this, every non-broken hero has constantly been buffed forever.
