My speed game depresses me. No one but me runs it. My record is not optimized (can save 7 mins so far, probably more if I found new strats). Trying to improve my record but keep losing runs in different ways I've never lost them before. Guess I'm in a slump.

ESA continues to improve the speedrunning marathon scene. Every year ESA innovates new tech that outclasses GDQs. Last year it was the personal split giant red button so runners can control the timer. This year at DreamHack is the evolution from couch to bean bag chairs. Also professional transitions between games.
So what will ESA2016 bring to the table? I can't wait to find out.

this explains why they decided to only do 1 stream instead of 2 then. people just use gdqs as a benchmark to how to run a charity marathon, when in fact they run it horribly wrong and just lucked into the viewership and donations (people still think they are curing cancer by donating). teams get stomped all the time in sports, but in most sports the other team has the ability to win. with speedrunning there are a lot of games that are pure skill and if one person is clearly superior than the other there is very little chance that the lesser skilled can win.
this is why games that have a small amount of variance (RNG) is good for competition. too much can just make the race a coin flip and not enough makes it too predictable.

the major problem with all these speedrun tournaments is that they all are done over multiple weeks. this is why i haven't watch a full game tournament yet. different matches are on different days with no schedule set. its a mess. no causal viewers will take the effort to camp a twitter for when the next match will take place.
i think for shorter games like 60 mins or less can be done in one weekend while longer games need to be straight up 2 races in a weekend. none of this 1-2 matches a day for 2 months until the tournament is finished stuff.
