Is it just me or are Russian jets retardedly overcomplicated?
>>
Anyone know if custom colors actually work in Cliffs of Dover with Team Fusion? They don't seem to change anything so I'm not sure if they're broken or I'm just using aircraft where they don't have any effect.
>>
>>145872998
It's less that Russian jets are overcomplicated and more that Western jets tend to have more things handled for the pilot. They're not making things more complex, it's just they haven't really simplified much.
>>
>>145874924

Also, when new features are added to US planes, often times the cockpits are completely redesigned, and the aircraft is given a new model letter.

When Russians add new features often times they'll just bash it together. Just look at how countermeasure dispensers are installed on the MiG-21, they re-used the JATO ignition circuit.
>>
>>145872998
I would rank the complexity like this
Hard>soft
A-10c>MiG-21>WW2 stuff>F5>mirage>baby cliffs

I don't know much about the mirage but are you telling me that a gen4 is less complex than a gen3?
>>
Is there any more efficient way to make use of your rockets and bombs in the Su-25? Each pass I can only nail 1 or 2 targets, it seems I'm either missing or outright failing to damage the rest.
>>
>>145878012
"Splash damage" against ground targets in dcs has been borked for the longest of times, you usually have to hit pretty much right on top of whatever you're aiming at in order to do significant damage, even if you're dropping heavier bombs like fab-500s.

As for rockets, it all depends on what kind of targets and how close they are to eachother.
An entire convoy of apcs or lighter can be wiped in a single pass with S-8OFPs.
>>
>fukkkk, only got enough money to spare for a single module before the 20th
>can't decide between M2K or F-5
>kinda want to put off gen4 multi-role until F/A-18 appears
>I am kinda put off of M2K as I don't want to learn French or memorize foreign symbols just to fly/deploy weapons properly will it actually be worth learning/memorizing symbols?
Is this a dumb move? What to do?
>>
>>145881261
it's not even symbols. just basic french
>>
>>145877757
While I think that specific example anon gave is a bad one (F-5 is a very simple plane, and was stylistically designed to be that way), look at the cockpit(s) of something like an F-4 to see why people would say that a 3rd gen fighter is more complex than a 4th. Shit was getting so complicated, so fast, that it became common practice to have a second guy just to operate the radar and weapons.

By the time 4th generation fighters started really coming into their own (with planes like F-15C, F-16C, Su-27S, MiG-29S, etc), computers had caught up to the complexity and were starting to automate a lot of what you needed a second pilot for.

That's why I think 3rd generation fighters and late 2nd gen are so interesting. They were the awkward transitional period between analog systems with steam gauges and increasingly complex electronic radars, weapons, and aircraft design.
>>
>>145881905
Which second gen aircraft used radars and other complex systems?
>>
>>145881261
There's a modded English pit available. The only things left in French would be the HUD, and almost all of that is numbers anyway.

The biggest hurdle I've found with the Mirage is that it's that procedures and quirks change every patch because it's still being worked on. I never know if something is broken or stupid because that's just how it's supposed to be, or if it's something RAZBAM hasn't finished yet.
>>
ops when?
>>
>>145882134
I was thinking specifically of the F-106 and the couple other big radar interceptors of its day, but now I remember that generation argument of the other day and don't care to go down that road again.

While the Mirage is multi-role, it can only carry dumb bombs and rockets, along with GBU-12s which need to be buddy lased.

bos/bom is pretty modern but /simg/ doesnt call it a study sim because it doesnt have the oooh shiney clickable cockpits.
>>
>>145918168

The systems and flight modelling in every IL-2 series game is FC3-tier at best. IL-2 is a survey sim series- a lot of aircraft modeled at alright-enough fidelity with their systems abstracted into a few button presses usually.

CLoD is probably the closest IL-2 there is to a study sim, but it's still not quite there IMO.

BoS/BoM most definitely is NOT a study sim, the fucking engine thermal modelling is based on a fucking timer and operates independently of airspeed and ambient temperature.

>40 degrees C

How do you fuckers set up rudders? Twisting my 16000m and using the rocker on my T.flight throttle aren't doing it for me in il-2 and shit ****der

>>145918559
>BoS/BoM most definitely is NOT a study sim, the fucking engine thermal modelling is based on a fucking timer and operates independently of airspeed and ambient temperature.

Now where did you hear that from? That isn't the case at all.

The flight models are very opinion based but I cannot change your opinion. The bf-109 auto trims itself out at 300km/h or so thats about the best I can say.

Comparatively the little I played of dcs p-51 it felt stiff and robotic. It felt too obvious the people who made it are used to making jet simulators.

And lets be honest your a bit dumb for buying a ww2 module for a modern flight simulator. Like do you even have bombers to intercept?

>>145919813
You need a lot of rudder for take off.

like nearly 100%
>>
>>145918948

>800deg C
>in any fucking WWII fighter

the maximum allowable engine coolant temperature in the Bf-109K4 in DCS is 100deg C.

>>145920467

Hop into either of the Messers in BoS right now. Take off at take off power, and keep track of the time you stay at this setting for. The engine will fail (either partially or fully) when the "do not exceed" timer for the engine is passed, regardless of airspeed or ambient temperature- the devs looked at the technical manuals (which everyone fucking knows give you peacetime numbers, your engine won't explode if you ride a specific power setting a few seconds longer than you're supposed to) and made the engine perform to that point. I can't comment on any of the other aircraft, as the 109 is the only airplane in the game I really know at all, but yeah- its engine fails consistently on the time breaks for the power settings you put it at. Maintaining max continuous power at low airspeeds with high ambient temperatures doesn't induce any kind of failure, either, even though it should.

You aren't supposed to rudder while aiming youll wibble wobble every which way if you rudder.

As one great man once said "youll catch caddywhompus for sure"
>>145920897
Did you have simple engine management on or something?

Because this isn't the case.
>>
>>145921794
Practice rudder control by stepping on the ball, no trim. You'll get used to small changes after a while.
Take into consideration that you'll get fucked by the wobble if you move the rudder just before shooting.

>>
>>145921067
Hmm... I am no expert in WWII planes or any prop planes in general
But maybe you're over temp already?
I believe nearly all gauges are design in such way you're almost always not suppose to reach the end of the gauge, as you need indication of a wide range of readings for normal operation and ,perhaps even more important, the readings to tell you that you have exceeded safe/normal operation.

So with this idea in mind, your gauge being maxed out and reading 120C (or maybe even hotter, but you wouldn't know) would most likely mean that you have exceeded the normal operation temperature. (Like how your tachometer has a section you will never reach and the speedometer has speeds that the car will likely never reach or like the coolant temp gauge in a car, there is a over temp zone)

Slightly related, how the fuck do you attack defended targets without good terrain masking in the Ka-50? The vikhrs don't really have the range to be used standoff against most tactical SAMs (barring really bad shit like IR/Optical SAMs and AAA), and you don't have an RWR to let you know when to break like you do in the gazlel.

You don't use rudder for guns except in snap shooting. Using the rudder would just make you uncoordinated and you'd be shooting sideways into the airflow. Just bank a little bit more and fly the reticle onto the target.

Here kid a few tips for free:

- turn on DIRCM when entering the target area
- if you are engaging targets with Vikhrs use speed brakes with the first missile to give you more time to find a follow up target
- you can fire a second Vikhr the moment the first one hits by turning off and then back on the laser, this way you will avoid the "cool down" timer
- if you are engaging soft targets with Vikhrs you can override the fire control and launch from 10 - 11 km away and the target will still be destroyed
- use fucking flares when you are done with a attack run

If you cannot kill at least 3 targets with 1 run you are defined as a scrublord in a 25T
>>
>>145959671
>- if you are engaging soft targets with Vikhrs you can override the fire control and launch from 10 - 11 km away and the target will still be destroyed
Here's proer tip, it doesn't matter you can shoot whatever at that range it'll still be destroyed, DCS doesn't have penetration falloff.

First off.
Missiles do the same damage at any range, it doesnt matter, tanks like the m1s need between 1 and 3 vikhrs to the front depending where you hit, since hitting the turret damages it more.

again

distance doesnt have anything to do with how much damage a vehicle will suffer.

Do you understand it now?
Do you need me to translate it in your fuck awful language as well?
>>
>>145961502
But they do from side and rear aspects, which is true at any range
>>
>>145961090
The Vikhrs don't have penetration falloff as they use a fucking tandem HEAT warhead.
>>
>>145961857
That's not how it works anon.

Penetration lessens as the missiles speed decreases, it doesn't matter if it has a quadruple tandem, it's a matter of speed.
for the 3rd time now i think, this isn't modeled in DCS.
>>
I know this is offtopic but i can't find any business/political simulation thread. Does it exist?
>>
>>145961945
Do you know/understand how HEAT warheads work? They're not KE perpetrators, and HEAT tank rounds usually have much less propellant than APDS.
