When i do sieges i just have a dedicated stack of rhodok sharpshooters, shoot dead as many defenders as i can, great axe everything i can get away with, then retreat, and then retreat gives me more morale just because of how many enemies died. Repeat until you win the war of attrition

I'm used to playing as Nords and Rhodoks. With Nords I just make a big shield wall of Huscarls, poke them down with throwing weapons, and then sweep anything.
With the Rhodoks I put a wall of Pikes in front of my Crossbowmen and 1 shot Swadian knights with my Phalanx Pike while the crossbowmen destroy everything.
Just crushing a huge unorganized group of infantry with Knights is so much fun though. Harlaus had 54 Knights alone, and I was 1 shotting Huscarl's like crazy with my lance.

Ravenster has the best archers and they have mounted archers, and some cavalry that can be made from peasants without wasting your noble recruits. So they're a great early-midgame faction, lategame you'll be using your own faction troops anyway.
I have a soft spot for Sarelon too, but that's more of a later-game thing, if you can get a decent amount of both knights of the Lion for raw power and durability and Rangers of Clarion Call for well armored horse archery then nothing will stand in your way.

to add a bit desu it's not that important what faction you'll pick anyway I believe, in my games majority of my troops (before I can reliably get enough knights of various orders) were tavern mercenaries (recruit every young noble you meet) and whatever which had a horse and some armor from rescued prisoners (there's way more of them with every party than in vanilla). Recruits from villages pretty much were just used for archers.

Phantasy Calradia is janky as fuck, but I had a ton of fun using cheats and playing it for a single day.
I started as a Necromancer, made myself level 30, and solo'd entire factions with nothing but summons and spells.
I can't imagine doing a normal campaign though, it feels a little too barebones and janky.
