I'm late to the demo seeing as I joined the game 3 days ago, but it seems like it groups you roughly against people's squad AI near your level to fight against so you're not fucked over. At higher levels, you get to pick on the weak ones though. There might be actual PvP in the full game? not sure.

I've never played XCOM so I can't compare but Growlanser 4 is one of the most underrated JRPG in the world.
It's pretty lengthy with a slow pace tough so I recommend only playing it when you've got the time and energy to commit to a game like that.

A slow paced strategy/RPG is exactly what I'm itching for right now, that's why I'm considering those two options. XCOM doesn't really compare, but an involved campaign still takes about 30 hours to beat. That said, I sort of want my Urushihara art...
