Nor is this a new situation. Both the western studios and Sony itself gave up on Vita in the west years ago, and Sony made it official last year. It's still doing well enough in Japan to continue to get plenty of games there, and those are the type of games that (if /vitagen/ is any indication) most of the western Vita base wants, anyway. It's only a question of how many of them get brought over. And if we keep buying them, they'll keep being localized.
I'm not going to complain that we didn't get any love at E3, because I wasn't expecting any, and it's not like they showed anything off that's enticing me to buy a PS4, either. I almost never buy AAA western games, and even if I were convinced that VR was anything more than a short-lived gimmick (this year's 3DTV), I don't have $400 to drop on it.
The real test for the future of Vita, as we've known right along, will be TGS in September.
At any rate, I've still got a huge backlog on Vita as it is, and several upcoming titles confirmed for localization that I plan to buy.

The Japanese government has been making pachinko less profitable through new regulations. I wouldn't say it's dying but it's not as profitable as before and some companies are bailing out, notably SNK who went back to game development.
Konami is a special case because they're lobbying to make gambling legal in Japan and wants to open casinos; they're just doing pachinko right now because that's the closest to gambling they can legally do in Japan.
