People not realizing when you go from chibis/90's comical cutscenes to in engine almost photo realistic graphics, stuffs changes. Since I'm apparently the only person in /ffg/ that thinks that Faris' Farises are Tifa tier. I will say as a person, who had at one point Tifa as a waifu for thirteen years: The term Tifa's Tifas has taken a life of its own among you that is not real. You exaggerate it. Look at this picture really hard. You will notice that her tits are only two fifths of her torso. This will be smaller than you thought before. (It's still enormous, but that's beside the point.) In contrast Lenna's are half her frame. The good and the bad. When I looked around in some forums, most people were Hating on FFX and praising X-2 because X-2 is easier, that sounds like a fairly weak reason to judge the game.

The first time I've heard of opinions like this.
As said already - X was the better overall package and X-2 isn't as bad as many, imo, exaggerate it to be. Yes, its retcons and changes to existing personalities is jarring, but the overarching lightheartedness of it was a nice change of pace to the usual melodrama we're given in FF. The return to a job-based system was very welcome, as well. I played both of them around initial release as well so I feel like went into them without any preconceptions from internet users.

Neither are really that hard in my opinion and thats a poor way to judge the games. X-2 has fantastic gameplay, among the best in the series imo, however the characters and story are pretty bad and the mission system is mediocre. X's gameplay is dec too and it does everything else far better. Both are worth playing in the end.

Most of the scenes involving what happened in the flashbacks "leading up" to where the story started are really strange.
Dajh taking his kid to a lava-filled refinery for no real reason, literally every character being at the Bodhum festival for no reason whatsoever, that Snow and Sera ride through the fireworks display for no reason...
The fact that they fucked up things as simple as trying to tell you where the characters were and why what happened happened is probably the game's biggest weakness. If they'd have started with Sarah getting magic'd by the fal'cie and moved on from there it would have had a much more natural flow.

Then you start from the very first game. Everyone for the most part find their first FF the most memorable. Each game is very different. Recommending someone to play a certain game first incorporates biases. If you don't want to play by release date then just pick the one with the world and characters you find the most interesting. The best advice I think is to play them however you want without pre-existing knowledge of what you read online and decide for yourself. You may find that you like certain ones that are popularly disliked. If someone tells you one is shit then you will most likely start that game subconsciously seeing the worst in it just to confirm what you've been told.

In short, we take the attack value of the sword + anywhere from 0 to 1/8th of the weapon attack, subtract defense and multiply based on level and strength. Since M is divided by 128, it rounds down if it doesn't evenly divide.
The higher the strength, the quicker the multiplier increases with level.

If you mean FFI, not great advice. FFI has minimal to no story and doesn't have distinctive characters like the later games. The best early and second gen FF games are the ones that have memorable characters and good stories, though most of the plots are kind of similar across all the games.

I thought you said you want to "move up to better ones to get the feeling of improving"? If you start on story-centric ones there's a high chance you'll feel spoiled and not want to even touch the NES/Famicom games anymore. It's very common sadly. There's a lot of people who tout themselves as FF fans, but have never actually played the more "archaic" ones due to them simply being old.

FFII is the first one to have a real story - with cosmic battles in Heaven and Hell! But it has weak, awkwardly tough gameplay with tough as hell random encounters and a system built to encourage more level grinding than plot progression. Can't comment on III, haven't played. IV starts off as a Star Wars homage with a lot of moral angst and darkness inside the main characters' head and is the story of characters rejecting evil and becoming good through hardship, which makes it really interesting and gripping as a plotline, although almost all the bosses are all hell to beat and the randoms are almost as tough. It directly homages old B-list fantasy flicks which makes it more than enjoyable. V has a great jobs system and should be played for the cool female pirate and its obvious love of the Dragonriders of Pern books. VI has the most expansive story and cast of the early-gen games and is a treat of visual variety.
The only second gen game I've played was VII, which is the Star Trek: The Next Generation of the FF series and the biggest marketing success in the franchise. That's the one you play if you need a basic frame of reference in common with your gamer friends before moving on to other titles in the series. VIII and X also have a strong cult following among second gen FF fans.

What do you have against emulation? FFX works perfectly. It was one of the first titles to work correctly on PCSX2 and runs even on toasters.
