As you can see most of my stuff is pretty dated. I hacked my systems back in April of last year, played for a while, then moved on to play other stuff. I find myself coming back around to 3DS, and wow, there's a lot going on in the hacking world.
I bought the N3DS because it was bundled cheap with the Sky3DS+, which I knew I needed a few months ago to update my 8.1J to 9.1J using the retard's guide I have saved. However I'm now reading about the new hacks (A9LH, and all these different NAND choices) and I'm confused as to where I stand on it. What I'd like to do is this:
1. Hack the N3DS XL to see how the new processes work.
2. Hack my N3DS to get it more functionality (I want to run retail DS carts on emunand for starters. bonus if I can buy eshop games)
I also am in a quandary over my O3DS XL. It's my 'main' system, it has my data from when I was still using only sysnand (so all my saves, DSiWare, eShop games, etc.). That's all stored in gateway emunand right now. I think I want to keep it around, if only because I remember that O3DS used to be the 'safe spot' to the less stable N3DS. That might have changed now, I don't know. So my big questions are:
1. Is there a chart or guide anywhere to the different nands and their pros/cons?
2. is my O3DS gateway emunand still relevant, and if not, can I make it so?
3. Is there any way to transfer my O3DS gateway emunand to my (currently unhacked) 10.7U N3DS as an emunand? I was going to just sell the 10.7U to recoup costs but if it's an upgrade then hey, why not? Just curious if it's possible to preserve my O3DS data.

a9lh is the entry point to boot the cfw, just like menuhax is what you're currently using to boot to your emunand.
when you install a9lh it launches before the official firmware does, so you can always reflash a different sysnand even if you brick, plus you can downgrade 11.0 sysnand cfw because of patches done by Luma.
as far as I know jp consoles are updated to 9.1 to do the setup.

Anyways, I'm about to start the downgrade to 2.1.0 on Part 4, and I got a question. A stupid one, as always. It says that the NANDs are linked by the number of formats done to them. Well I did the double format on redNAND as I was told, but I also formatted my system before starting the whole thing, even the initial update to 9.2. Are my NANDs still linked? I don't think they are because I updated redNAND like it told me on Part3 but the sysNAND is still on 9.2. Is everything alright? The second half of step 4 and all of 5 use the word brick in big bold letters a lot so I'm scurred of fucking up like I came close to last night

With luma's and a9lh (so the end of the guide basically) is there a way to set up a little image like you could with menuhax etc. ? It'd be nice to have a reminder of some of the button combos, even if it's only for a second or something.
