Yeah, as is even with an AR boost the only fist weapons that will remain viable without a speed boost are the Caestus since they have perseverance. Basic L1s of fist weapons do terrific damage for their weight and investment, they just cannot hit because of the lack of range and the insane wind-up on most of their attacks.
I have an in progress fist build, I'm very well versed in the caestus moveset, speed and damage. I'm updating my game now on PS4, I'll report back in a while with findings.
AR boost would need to be like an extra 50AR minimum at +10 for it to even matter for how slow the initial hits are.
I know that currently my fists are +6 and have about 220 AR as of this morning. We'll see.

Just got done testing caestus on new patch
Lag is out the fucking wazoo so it's hard to tell, but it seems the exact same attack speed. Though, I feel like the R2's are fast as shit now. The R2 feels faster than the R1, or as fast. Weird.
Damage wise, it was at about 190 ish AR at +6 with heavy infusion, it's now 229, I have 36 STR. This is an in progress fist build.
Damage is definitely better, but I don't think that fixes it's actual problems.

It'd be easy to balance with how low armor poise is. A straight sword 1hr1 would deal 10 poise damage or so, a 2hr1 would do 20. And so on.

Dark Souls 2 poise barely worked outside of PvE. You needed absurd amounts of it to tank a dagger. It would be just as useless as it is now.
What I guess From tried to do, and this is going by the info we have and the armor stats in-game, was bring back the old system from DaS1 but make it literally impossible to stack poise to ridiculous levels without investing into a fuckton of vit for the heaviest armors.
As of now, PvP would consist of people tanking small weapons but getting staggered by axes, scythes and all great weapons. And I'm sure the system they would have put would only let you tank 2 hits tops. I have no idea why they quit halfway through making it.

Using a straight sword, rapier or a katana, outside of cosplay purposes, is cheating.
Backstabbing/parrying/guard breaking are cheating.
Using any armor heavier than 13 units is cheating.
Using any weapon's move that knocks over or otherwise strictly prevents an opponent from moving is cheating. (Black Knight weapons, Ultra-weapon shockwaves, etc.)
Using estus while being invaded is cheating.
Being in the Way of Blue covenant is cheating.
Using throwing knives is cheating.
Wearing the Obscuring Ring is cheating.
Wearing the Hornet Ring is cheating.
Using a Giant Tree Seed is cheating.
Also note that all cheaters I, or anyone with a hint of intellectual capability, encounter will have their saves corrupted on sight.

After the patch, you need at least half the advertised FP to perform a Weapon Skill, doesn't work with only 1 FP anymore. Good thing it's not the full FP, though.
