Get your diet in check first, trust me. Once you do regular cardio is great but if you're trying to lose more than, say, 20 pounds please do some weight lifting or a bodyweight routine so you don't end up just being thin and flabby.

If you don't have weights, can't afford a gym membership, and can't afford to get an old used weight set off craigslist or a garage sale or something a good bodyweight routine well do you well enough to make sure your skin stays tight and you don't lose a ton of lean mass as the weight comes off.
Diet is pretty easy. I started out by just counting calories in what I was normally eating every day for a week, and then reducing what I ate without actually changing the things I ate until I was eating the right amount. After a week or two of that I started changing what I was eating for healthier things, like chicken breast instead of fried chicken. The trick is to do it week by week so you can adapt to the changes and not try to do it all at once. Grabbing recipes off of sites like fitmencook helped a lot since they have the nutritional info listed for most of them and they're easy to make.
If you can find the willpower to stick to it day by day, counting calories, getting a good 20-30 minutes of cardio in, and lifting 3 days a week you'll get fit in no time. I was obese ever since I was a kid and went from 320lbs to 160lbs just by doing weekly changes like this and making sure to get back on it every time I started getting lazy.

I have argued the irrelevancy of the shrink before, but it was only defended because people were too lazy to change the OP. I made the new thread without it to see if it was that critical to anyone's enjoyment; imagine my surprise when its absence was unnoticed until I brought it up.

Aren't all "oneitis" stories about creepy stalkers in some form, though?
