I love the 21, and I think leatherneck did a good job, and I'm hype as fuck for the F-14 and shit, but they haven't been the best in terms of support for it after release.

Alright, I've got a problem that needs fixed. DCS Multiplayer hasn't been working for me lately. The last time I played MP was over a year ago, so I lost all the information for my original account, including the email address.
So I made a new account, tried to log in, and it keeps saying I have an "invalid serial number" or something of that nature. I think the problem is that I'm not using the same account I downloaded the base game, and bought my first two planes with. Should I just uninstall, login, and reinstall or have the slavs at ED fucked me for time?

I've been trying to get a friend of mine into DCS, but he has a life and responsibilities, and he just isn't into modern planes as much as WWII so he just has no motivation to actually learn the concepts and switchology required. His free time is generally limited too, so War Thunder's super quick "start up, hop in, fly some sorites" is extremely appealing to him versus the setup that a real sim required.
That and he only flies with Oculus Rift, so no matter what DCS is going to suck balls for him because he (understandably, but still wrongly) refuses to get head tracking.Playing War Thunder sim with him is pretty fun, but I wish I had somebody to play DCS and especially BMS with.

That's nice that you have this video of one of the few times the Mirage gets to take too many hits. In most situations you're gonna' get splashed the same as any other, though. Generally it takes 2 missiles to kill it for certain, usually only one to cripple it enough to force an eject.
Maybe there are certain angles it needs to get hit from to be able to shrug missiles off and keep flying. Looks like the same "problem" the A-10 has, though.
Also you can tell from that video that the Mirage pilot is lagging/desyncing a bit, which is probably most of the issue.
I'm just tired of the "mirage is unkillable" meme that seems to be spreading - yeah, the damage model is fucked, but it's not going to take 3 missiles to kill. Just double-tap like you should be doing basically all the time due to this sim's fucked-up netcode and you should be fine.
If you want I can post screenshots and videos of F-15s and Su-27s that took multiple missile hits before going down, that's basically the same level of "proof" that I'm getting from you.

I find the Mirage to be a bit awkward in how it presents information, but once you're in the air it's not much different on a conceptual level. The same could be said about any full fidelity 4th gen fighter desu.
In the Mirage, you have to manually select weapons versus cycling through them, and the dogfight modes are weird. I can't tell if they're just broken or I'm missing something.

There's a lot more to it than that. In the F15C alone, I need to press Rshift+L to start the electrics. Then I need to turn on the navigation lights by pressing Rctrl+L. After that, I need to close the canopy and start each engine individually. What's more, I have to wait for them to rev up before I can taxi, and don't even get me started on lowering the flaps. It's not as easy as you think, kiddo.

Their flight models are quite accurate, it's just the minor things like tanks coming off or wings ripping off which really don't have any real impact. You're more likely to end up blacking out instead of having shit rip off. Keeping your fuel tanks on in a BFM fight is enough of a hindrance anyway in terms of performance that it really doesn't matter if they rip off or not.
Also, on the topic of radar modes. The F-15/Su-27 radar and Mirage radars all function pretty much the same. The mirage has 1 extra button to press to IFF which doesn't add to complexity at all. Ground clutter does affect FC3 radar, it's just not visible on the display. How else does notching work?

If you think you're more likely to black out than rip wing tanks off, I'm not certain you're qualified to speak here. You need considerably less G-forces acting on the plane to rip stuff off under most cases than you need to make the pilot black out.
I've never lost a lock on a plane trying to "notch" me in MiG-29 or Su-27, I'm convinced it either doesn't actually work or everyone I've seen try to do it just didn't know what "abeam" means.
You're still leaving out weather clutter, and with the way ground clutter works for FC3, you're still going to get the jump on them, because that split second that you see the enemy isn't going to be obscured by anything on the radar display, in the MiG-21 you've got to toggle some modes around for the best chance of seeing that silly neon green on neon green contact pop up.
Also, you would be surprised how many Mirage pilots don't know about the IFF interrogator. I had to teach someone about it just last night because he was locking literally everything and then asking for confirmation.

If you're pulling high G's with a fully loaded set of fuel tanks then yes, you'll pull them off easily around 6 G's, if they're half full or less they won't come off super easily. I've flown the MiG-21 a few times and left my fuel tanks on while pulling around 7.5-9 G's (the point where your screen begins showing you're starting to black out) and haven't had the tanks fall off.

I think that's only if you turn the jammer up to the second position, where it's stronger, but also fucks up your own radar. In the first "middle" position it jams but doesn't affect your own range.
Not certain about the effects of other jammers on Mirage, and I don't think the "stronger" mode of the Mirage's jammer is ever going to be modelled to actually affect other planes more than the default mode.
But the RDI's typical burn-through range is 40nm, get the jammer inside that range and you can see them/IFF interrogate like any other contact.

Explain to me what is different about how the Mirage radar functions because it feels the same to me. You change scan range, width of scan, bars you can scan (the only unique thing but should honestly be available in the F-15 and Su-27 too, it makes radar management easier actually), PRF mode, TWS and STT, radar directional slew, and warmup which is negligible as you can keep it on forever after it is warmed up and freely toggle it between standby and on without any penalty.
CAC modes can be toggled through just as easily as with the F-15 and Su-27 as well. The only retarded thing is CAC modes cannot be used with the Super 530D but I think Razbam said they would fix that, not sure.

It's a neat aircraft, and if DCS were a bit better as a platform, it might be really fun, but jesus man could polychop have chosen a more useless aircraft for DCS as it stands? Its role- recon- is just straight up useless, especially considering it has no way to mark or relay the position of targets to more capable aircraft without just reading off coordinates over a radio. Making the Gazelle in DCS now would basically be like making the F-117 with DCS radar modelling as it is now, or the EA-6 with jamming/ECM modelling as it is now.
I was excited back when they said they would be adding in functionality for recon objectives in the mission editor, but holy shit that was a fucking copout in the end.

mite b. the cannon and rockets should make it neat for a light attack aircraft. As it stands, though, the ATGMs aren't suuuuuper useful- their range is a lot shorter than it sounds (basically everything will be capable of shooting back), and you can only carry four (two with a reasonable fuel loading)
I mean, it's a neat helo, and it's fun to use, but the limited capabilities it has in DCS as it stands coupled with the unfinished FM make me hesitate to recommend it
also running mistrals on it might be kind of good for shits and giggles to kill cocky fixed wing pilots.

The G29 is overpriced for what it is, but otherwise fine. It's basically a G27 but with slightly better pedals and a DFGT button layout.
Your alternative in that price range is the T300 RS, which has worse pedals but better force feedback. At least according to a lot of people anyway. I've tried a G27 before, and own a T300RS, and I think the whole muh belt FFB superiority is a meme.
My biggest problem with the Thrustmaster is that their QA is shit. They are the Saitek of the wheel world in terms of reliability and luck of the draw with getting good hardware. Logitech is better about that, but Ive heard a lot of people with software and hardware problems with the G29 so it's probably just a matter of picking your poison these days.
