I assume you mean for it to be a general purpose SnS build. In which case neither--go with true ruiner or awakened reigning grissword. High raw and miles of white without needing any sharpness skills makes up for not having any practical level of purple, but awaken can hurt its case if you don't have any charms for it.

If you want the next quest to unlock whatever monster you need you have to visit people in the villages to get it. So if you're doing them online you have to disconnect and go to the village to get the hunt from them. And YOU have to initiate the hunt. Don't think you can get around it by doing someone else's.

It means you're not ACTUALLY breaking its face.
Even then, the drop chance is only 30%, so you might just be unlucky.
If you really need a specific break, try using CB's axe mode more like as GS/SA, taking quick shots at the body part you want to break. And only after that go ham on the monster.
If you're having problems breaking Gypceros' head before you kill it, you better be prepared when the time coems for you to farm Rajang's horns. You need to break both, and they take up like 90% of the monster's total health, so you have to snipe the head throughout pretty much the whole duration of the fight.

Like seriously, almost all of the true yukumo weapons have 160 raw damage but a hammer has got to deal more damage in a single blow than a SnS.

Display raw has never had anything to do with damage dealt. Different attacks deal different percentages of your true raw. P3rd shows the true raw instead of a meaningless inflated number. It makes comparing between weapon classes easier but casuals found it too difficult to comprehend so it was a one time thing.
Damage is still calculated the same way, but inflated numbers are back in later games.

It would certainly be preferable to mix handedness for weapons sharing the head. Though most people don't notice it or if they do it's just subconsciously, monsters are also right- or left-handed, so it could have a non-negligible impact solo with certain monster-weapon matchups. I'd love it in theory as an aesthetic option, but I think in practice most people would still just go lefthanded because either they're kids and new to the series and that's the more cool and unique option or because lefthandedness has been a subtle part of the monster hunter aesthetic for years already.

If the sharpness of your weapon is blue and above depending on the rank. You still have to fall back to sharpen. They burn through sharpness so damn quickly.

I hear LS is pretty heavily improved from 4U to Generations because of the way the meter works. Is there a preferred hunting style for it though? That said, nobody is really sure yet how many frames is the window for the Adept evade, but I'd wager it's a big window (bigger than normal Evasion+ skills) since it's meant to dodge through attacks, unlike the normal roll.

Is MH4U grindier than past games in the series? Or did I just pick a weapon that happens to be insanely grindy?
What are some super common patterns for certain monsters? Rathian triple charge and G-rank teo cloud->detonate are pretty obvious, but I'm more interested in easily missed ones like Rajang's "side hop, spin, laser" or "short kelbi hop, back hop, spin".
I'm learning to GS Teostra in a g-special guild quest and I'm kind of having trouble safely landing big hits on the head. I'm learning to bait out the directional explosions by standing close to his side instead of circling, but my biggest trouble is with punishing his breath attack. It's a free lvl 3 on the back leg all day, but half of the time I go for the face (approaching on his right side once he starts moving left) I get charged right away even if I go for a lvl 2. What I'm asking is "how do you position yourself to hit the face and how do you follow up to avoid getting charged?'
