The AI sucks so much, it's not even funny.
-It disproportionately deployes divisions across the front, resulting in very weak points that can be crushed.
-Completely unresponsive, does not react at all to encirclements.
-Does not react to units losing battles. In DH, if a unit was losing the AI would try to reinforce is as soon as possible. In HoI4, this never hapens.
-Does not attack your weak points. I left a province across the French-Italian border completely unprotected. The French never bothered to attack it. But they did attack one of my armies on a mountainous region, which resulted in their defeat.
-Does not cancel doomed attacks. In DH if the battle wasn't going well for the AI, it would cancel it and try again with more troops. Here, the AI will keep going until the battle is forced to be canceled due to your victory. This results in huge casualties for the AI.
-Activating a battleplan interferes with manual orders. HoI4 development team bragged about both making invasions more streamlined, while maintaining the ability to manually control your troops. They fucking lied. You need to de-activate the battleplan in order to efficiently give manual orders, otherwise the second you give the order, the AI will give your units a new one. Battleplans are thus reduced to a cheap trick to give you that 50% combat bonus.
-And of course, ZERO (0) battle feedback. In both DH and HoI3, after a battle you would get the battle report, which included the casualites of each side. It added a lot of flavor and immersion to the game.
In HoI4, you can invade and destroy the entire Soviet Union, and you would never notice that a battle happened, other than some green/red dots on the map.
Definitely a downgrade. Not even worth pirating.

when there is a battle, a dot appears on the map. if you are winning it's green, if you are losing it's red. the dot has a number inside. when that number reaches 100 you win the battle, when that number reaches 0 you lose the battle.
