It might last for a long time past the point at which any sane person will drop it. Like Navyfield 2 did, it limped on for a year after nearly everybody left it for WoWS and those who didn't were so few the MM needed to compose rounds from tier IV to X. SO still has peak hours during which it is possible to get almost full house matches at the middle tiers, but outside those it's already 3v3 on tier V. I can't play during those peak hours (20-23 my eurofag time) so the game is as good as dead to me already.

Please stop spreading the memefire myth. It's downright irresponsible to pretend that CAs can beat BBs in a head-to-head battle by "memefiring". Successful memefire means that your enemy was totally braindead, you can't rely on it to win battles.

It's obnoxious to spam prem smoke and sit still. The players that do this are actually pretty bad.
Because they do not deserve to win, I like to beat them. However, unless I am partnered with a great BB, or can communicate effectively with one, I can't organize the proper response to smoke spam (It's turn away and let them waste it).
Thus, I bring prem smoke as well, and torpedo them in their own smoke, or space them out wisely and just out-dd them. On average, I use the 3 regular smokes and 1-2 prem smokes per match where I need to do this. If you are good you can learn to play like this.

The absolute shitters are the ones who have no crew, no camo, don't let the aim circle settle, or are retarded. Some combination of the above. They are almost harmless because they don't do damage. You only have to kill them if you are literally going to run into them.
Bad BBs can aim and hit you sometimes but don't use the game mechanics to their advantage. Doesn't use smoke, only sometimes has camo etc. Their biggest failure is that they don't know how to read the map, they will charge BBs while spotted, or run away when they could be overpowering CAs. They will only help their team if they get lucky.
Good BBs and great BBs exist on a gradient of "competent player" where the great BBs are better shots, shoot critical enemies more, are better at positioning, and dodge fire better. Getting good at shooting is probably the best skill to develop, it's never not useful, and it's easy to practice.
Positioning is really important too though. I think good positioning is the best way to swing a bad situation. Say the enemy team has two BBs to your one. You can't outshoot that unless they're shitters. So you need to decide how you single them out. You have check out the map to see what your team is doing, where the enemies are sailing, and how you can use that to your advantage.

Do little is the cheapest hawkeye to get via qualification. 1300 (needs to be 4 star)
Spruance is the next cheapest at 2500 qual to straight out purchase him.
Yosiroku needs to be legendary and starts 4 stars. so 2500 to upgrade to legendary, and 1k qual to purchase him flat out. 3500.
Shelby has to be legendary up from two stars. so 1300 to get to 4 star, and 2500 to go from 4 to 5.
But yeah, recommend going for Doo-little first unless RNG gods bless you with Spruance.
