Something you need to consider about PS1 conts is that the devs only needed to worry about terrain since all the bases were copy pasta.

But nothing prevents people going back to normal FPS. The truth is that the best Planetside has to offer are balanced 48-96 fights. But most fights are not those. Overpopping is the most effective way to win, and while one faction has all its pop spawncamping a base waiting for it to cap, another faction is doing the same somewhere else. Some bases are also impossible to take with 50% pop, like biolabs and towers with A point inside.

The problem is that it often devolves into campfests, moreso if the maps are intentionally designed to be standoffs. Battlefield 3/4s metro is popular for pubs but the imbalance shows. If it's gonna be 96v96, it needs to have a fairly large map per match (like 2-3 zones in planetside)

I tend to go for a support role, because I like to fill the squad's needs. I default to medic, but go engineer with my SHINY NEW ANTI-VEHICLE TURRET to counter armor pushes.

You've two real options.

1) you hover at ceiling height with a squad of drifter c4 buddies, and shit on tank columns

2) you take the meme approach. 2 striker heavies on one side, two engineers on the other. The amount of manpower required is high for the level of effect you have. It can get pretty boring for the repairmen too.

In general, valks are bad. Poor mans liberator in any combat form, and a poor mans gal in transport. It has zero real benefits over either, assuming you can spare the nanites.

It's called not relying on sunderers for certs. You place the sunderer so the mans keep spawning, so you keep the fight going.

Then you either farm bads at this fight, or you farm regen / revive ribbons as medic. That is how you get certs. Not sunderer spawns. Sunderers enable the cert farm, they are not themselves the cert farm.

You use it because you enable the farms. You want a good farm? You set it up. Do not expect bads to do this. You think the average shitter is going to put a sunderer on the A point of a tech plant? of course not. You need to be the one to do things like this.

Also, if you get a well placed shield sunderer, there's nothing stopping you from using it as a two man farming wagon. Kobalts are extremely good. The cert gain isn't as small as you make out either - there are ribbons associated.

Basically, don't think of it as a sole source of certs. It's supplementary to farming, and allows you to keep farming good farms, for longer.

But I'm starting to wonder why I'm even bothering to do that. Looking at the math, deploying a Sunderer is absolutely pointless in terms of cert gain. There's virtually no benefit. Wasting several minutes pulling, positioning, and deploying a Sunderer just so I'm 0.01% closer to unlocking something is wasted time, time that could be used spawning at someone else's Sunderer.

A single kill, which takes mere seconds to achieve, gets me XP that ten minutes of passive Sunderer gameplay.

The 5-10 minutes you spend actually getting the Sunderer to your obtuse location will net you MAYBE 20 certs at most, assuming this is a 96+v96+ drawn out battle that lasts over half an hour where you have an optimal deploy. I doubt your passive cert gain would get even halfway to double digits in anything smaller.

Meanwhile, how many kills do you get per minute? Are you capable of getting 20 kills in the 10 minutes it takes to set up a Sunderer? Because if you can, Sundies become a 100% waste of time.

There's been a bug with the falling animation while holding a... either knife or medkit, I can't remember, that causes a 6-inch polygon to spike out of one of your hands. Because there's literally no point in attacking a Hive. They do not matter. They're an irrelevant gameplay mechanic.

If anything, I'm glad when I see enemy Hives pop up. It means there's an entire squad or more dedicated to jerking off in a corner for literally no reason, away from actual objectives and win conditions. And I know that they'll keep their circlejerk going for well over an hour, since even a 100% Efficiency Hive takes forty whole minutes to generate a single VP.

Unless you've managed to magically build your christmas wonderland defenses across all of your territory (you haven't), there's not a problem at all.
When I'm leading a platoon and I notice someone wasted half an hour or sometimes over an hour building a cute FOB, you know what I do? I tell my squad to redeploy and move to any other lattice.
Congrats, you just pulled probably dozens of your buttbuddies off an actual important territory to put together your base in anticipation for an amazing push, and no one's going to feed you. Meanwhile, I'm across the map cutting off your base from the rear and getting bonus VP for warpgating you yet again.

People used it for the first few days.

Now bases either become so huge and filled with fuck-off levels of auto-turrets that they're totally ignored, and the defenders get bored and redeploy elsewhere, or they're killed without struggle in their infancy.

Once a base is built, the garrison usually leaves because no-one attacks, and then it's just a matter of waiting until an adequately sized tank zerg shows up to knock it over.

It's extremely underwhelming. There really isn't much of an incentive to attack the bases, as either it's a boring ghost-cap of sorts, or you get farmed to shit. The sheer abundance of cores required to activate the bases leads them to not being particularly important individually either, in terms of victory points. There are just too many bases running concurrently, and the ones that are fortified have such negligible impact on the victory point tally, that it's very easy to ignore them. Most of my fun in it has come from bullying ANT's (the new construction vehicle).

Otherwise, the Indar revamp was okay. Some bases got fucked up, some got changed and are okay, and most importantly, ones like abandoned NS and broken arch got removed.

Modules need cortonium to work, shields, repair and AI modules. Cortonium needs to be gathered by players and then dropped back off at a silo. In theory a base can run out of resources, but either the base has a cortonium spawn inside of it or the attackers can't be assed to kill the ant making runs.

And they're useless in the sense that just like with most things in this game, the playerbase is more then happy to go "eh, effort" and fuck off to an empty base.

Semi-casuals don't know what the hell is going on with construction and don't care. Warpgating a faction is easier to understand as an objective and more rewarding of a goal. There's little obvious reasons to go chasing after some kids building sand castles in the corner.

I'm a pretty crappy player and normally play support, Medic and Engineer, and was thinking of a new weapon to support my spray-and-pray lifestyle.

I was thinking of a TR PDW-16 Hailstorm, with MH2 Reflex Sight (x2) and forward grip. Is this a good option?

If you buy a multiclass weapon with anything (certs or dbc), you get it on all classes. Buying with dbc means you get it on other characters you make as well.

I currently have an LC3 Jaguar for my Light and Engineer, and guess it works Ok, I just normally find myself in short range surprise situation gunfight or just using cover fire.

I figured one gun for all my non-heavy makes the learning curve a bit simpler. Familiarity and all that.

Did they change the ability to spot mines? I used to be able to spot em easily but last time I played, which was a few days ago, I wouldnt be able to spot them and they only showed up on EoD3 when I was almost right on top of them, which I thought they also fixed a while back.

Faction-specific SMGs, and in particular the second-gen ones (Hailstorm included), are pretty much strictly hipfire weapons - their hip COF is really tight, and they don't suffer any bloom penalty for hipfire like every other weapon type. Putting a sight and foregrip on a hailstorm would be retarded, you want an advanced laser and probably nothing else.

That said, the Hailstorm (or more often, Failstorm) is pretty universally considered mediocre on account of its shitty DPS. It's usable, but not fantastic.

It's actually pretty good on a HA though, since your overshield makes up for the shitty DPS. That was the only way I could find the bother to auraxium it, anyway.

Your medic's standard cycler is fine, assault rifles are great, alwways use them on the medic, they've got better effective range than any smg and can still work up close, the TRV variant is better for spraying, but the standard is better for ADS at midrange, more important for the medic than a gun are revive grenades, which are beautiful with a bandolier.

For engie you should invest in mines, I also like running anything i can slap an underbarrel grenade launcher on, since it was nerfed it can only one hit kill on a direct hit, but engie can keep hisself supplied with ammo for it, so it's great for popping guys who like to hop in and out of the same piece of cover, like an energy shield, a direct hit will kill them outright, as opposed to merely wounding them and prompting a retreat behind the shield.

These are the game changers, I've actually been returning to my default weapons as a TR player to try them out with a more practiced hand.

I have been surprised how many useful features I overlooked that I appreciate better now in hindsight.

A novelty patch doesn't keep old players from staying or coming back for long. I mean i was sort of interested in the construction at first but i soon got bored since there is little incentive for people to attack a defended base and so defenders just idle in their bases watching the cordium refining counter tick by. If defending bases and destroying them gave more xp then i think people would participate in it a little bit more, but as it stands now, shooting walls and turrets is pretty fucking boring.

Also the frequent crashing is making me consider giving the game a break too desu.

Wyvern valkyries are pretty good 1v1 against ESF's and can challenge poor to average skilled lib crews.

What the valk needs most right now is more resistance to daltons. In fact, i dont really see why the sky-vanguard has been allowed to be so strong for so long against literally everything in the game...
