Lots of improvements overall, the engineers added a system that acts as a time sink and lets you improve your ship beyond normal grade upgrades.

Whoever made supercruise the way it is needs to be drown in a lake. What the fuck is this bullshit? I start accelerating with my throttle at zero? acceleration from a dead stop seems completely random and deceleration seems to depend on what you're targeting. If I didn't know better, I'd say the whole thing was a buggy concept.
>>
>>144569294
I really like the concept myself, max acceleration is based on where you are in relation to each planetary body's gravity well, and current acceleration is 'optimized' depending on what you are flying and what you are targeting.

I've never had the issues you mention, but it's certainly not a fun or easy system to work with.

It's a really nice idea, but they could do to implement it a whole load better.

Get more money? Buy ship with biggest cargo hold and best FSD and keep doing missions high profit missions until you can afford Python. Don't bother with trading it's not worth it.
Exploring? Grind until you can outfit explorational ASP

>>
>>144576762
Actually community goals is a pretty good way to make money. With last update they've made it easier to find them. You can see them on mission board. Community goals pay out depending on how much you contributed to the goal. The current ones, where you have to mine gold, are shit. But there is one, you have to turn in combat bounties. If you get 2-4 bounties you're already guaranteed to be top 75% and that would lend you 3-5mil by the end of the week. You could invest more time by getting more bounties and get to top 50-25%. You would make 4 times the money you have now with less effort.
>>
>>144576762
literally just hit a high RES with any ship

stick around the system security, swoop in when their target is at like 5% health. if you get an instance that spawns condas, FDLs, clippers, pythons and federal X ships you'll pull a couple million in an hour or so without much effort or risk
>>
>>144549767
The funny thing is that this game is fucking awful for dads. At least if you have a young kid. No pause, 15 second logout timer, more if you're in combat. Takes a fucking retarded amount of time to get anywhere.

>>
>>144574839
>>144575075

Git gud scrubs.

Stations, wakes and signal sources are "virtual" masses and their influence goes away the instant you detarget them. If you throttle to zero and detarget before overshooting you can decelerate as though they weren't there.

Do this in conjunction with gravity braking to perform high speed station approaches in seconds.
>>
>>144583290
that sounds fun, which is outside of the scope of the Vision
>>
>>144583290
If that ever comes to pass then the payout needs to be at least doubled for them to be worthwhile. In any case, there is already the possibility that the debris field will spawn inside the turbulence of the stellar body's upper exosphere. Your ship wobbles wildly, as does the can and if you fail to scoop it in a few passes then the can actually enters the atmosphere and you lose it. In which case another can spawns somewhere in the vicinity of the stellar body and you have to find it again.

bump + question

how much does a combat fit conda cost?
>>
>>144592714
500 mill +
>>
>>144592714
Minimum: probably like 250million if you use discounts and cut some corners

Ideally: ~450-500million for all A class parts and the like.

>>
>>144586321

Then you don't get 41LY+ range. The oldschool exploration Annie gets its massive jump range from severely downranking everything, which literally slims it down by hundreds of tons:

http://coriolis.io/outfit/anaconda/02A5D6A5D1D8D5C--------0202------3h1111------2f2i.AwRj4yvZWo==.EwBj4yvBGHpEA===
>>
>need 5k merits to maintain rating 5
>50 power allocations every HALF HOUR
Every day you would need to make 15 runs, and each run has to be 30min from each other so from the point you start you would be done in 7 1/2 hours. And that's daily. Who does this shit?
>>
>>144596058

And the grade 5 FSD upgrade from Felicity can net up to 50% more range if you get exceptionally lucky (45% max RNG + possibility of +5% from secondary effects).

= Possible 60 LY jump range on exploration Anaconda.

When the AI isn't bugged to fuck and machine gun firing particle accelerators, or popping infinite chaff every 10 seconds (read: every elite enemy), or popping infinite SCBs while ignoring heat (read: every elite enemy), I'm starting to find them tolerable to deal with. holy shit you're right I have to do it while it's hot and I have 50 per 30 min. How much does it cost to get it early?
>>
>>144599443

10K per merit.

It literally costs the whole 50mil salary you get at Rank 5 to maintain your rank entirely by fast-tracking merit commodities.

Mind you Hudsonfags can double-dip for bounties and merits so they don't have to do only commodities.
>>
>>144599409
They took them out. It was just some server-side RNG tables.
>>
>>144602874

I don't know about that. I got hit a few times by AIs with force shell cannons not even two hours ago.
>>
>>144603790
Maybe they haven't pulled them down yet? Apparently it's only supposed to happen in open play. I mostly fuck around in solo so haven't seen it yet.
>>
>>144604046

It happened in private group too. Basically any time you might instance with another player.

It's a dangling pointer issue. Under the engineers update the AI has dynamically-generated templates applied to its hardpoints whereas before they just chose from a static list.

Say player 1's client controls an AI, which has an overcharged pulse laser in hardpoint 1. Since all weapons are dynamic now, that laser's stats are stored separately in memory, say at a location we will call 0xFUCK, and the AI refers to it for weapon behavior whenever it fires.

Player 1 leaves the instance and the AI comes under the control of Player 2. The AI brings with it the knowledge that it should refer to memory location 0xFUCK to fire its laser. Only player 2 doesn't have any weapon data at 0xFUCK. It's not actually part of the AI data so it didn't carry over. What's actually at 0xFUCK could literally be any garbage data you can imagine, which gets interpreted as fuck-knows-what kind of weapon.
>>

Oh yeah private group would be hit as well. Wonder if Mobius players got wrecked.

That's what I've been doing, but there's only so much remotely interesting stuff I've encountered since returning since Horizons/2.1.

>used to mainly BH at RES to get an Asp Explorer, figured I'd finally try out smuggling/hauling with some exploration on the side
>finally took planetary landings seriously enough to grind for mats to rank up and unlock some of Martuuk & Farseer's mods, went to virtually every USS I could find and collected 500+ mats and 150 data before realising 600/200 was the limit (wtf, for what purpose?)
>even just lvl 1 upgraded thrusters are awesome on a smuggling Cobra, but I've only found and completed 1 LRS mission before they all disappeared, did get 3 nice stacked regular long range haul missions for 4M at a different fringe system tho
>average roll of Low Emissions Power Plant (1) was useless for my Cobra
https://coriolis.io/outfit/cobra_mk_iii/0p5taFalddasdf4----0003034803012o2f.Iw1-kA==.MwBjCYQRjWpyJJA= since the percentage shown (in my case 4% don't have mats for reroll) is taken from the total so if you got lucky and rolled 11% it'd maybe take 24% HS down to 22% which isn't really worth the loss of power, but of course in other cases it'll have its uses
>got a nice roll on 4D shields at the cost of broken regen rate, strat is boosting the hell out of interdictions anyway, considered shieldless but the Cobra's jump range wasn't made for that much 4E cargo racks so probably not worth it

cont.
>found my first (or maybe second) UA in some deep space system, examined it closely and tried RP communicating with ship lights since it seemed to be doing something akin to that before feds showed up even though it was not an inhabited system
>actually got interdicted by a player in a DBE whilst collecting exploration data with an empty hold, would've liked to put up a fight but without weps so boosted out
>found an occupied escape pod while exploring and rescued it from the deep space system out in the middle of nowhere (illegal salvage so I RP headcanon that I free the occupant and merely sell the escape pod itself)

I probably should've curbed my curiosity about Engineers and continued BH or just tried smuggling/hauling with a Type-6 instead of grinding mats and I'd be in an Asp Explorer already, but je regrette rien, it's a fun game. A few more long range haul/smuggle missions and I'll get a comfy Asp and hopefully grind to Anaconda and/or Type-9.

Still <30M assets you're probably best off saving Engineers stuff for later, but journey, not the destination etc. /blogpost

Google for specific locations (longitude/latitude) on specific planets or you'll probably be looking for a looong time since every planet (even high metal content ones) only have a certain number of mats.

Or if you do find certain stuff otherwise, make a note of the long/lat where you find stuff.

But what makes Elite so compelling isn’t so much about the game as the experience. It’s the tinkering with and the taking out of a performance car for a Sunday drive, not to rack up more miles, nor to break any speed limits, but to just feel the growl of the engine and the wind comb through what’s left of your hair. To remember those carefree days arched over a BBC Micro or blinking angrily into a Lenslok and to forget for a short while that you have to make 357 people redundant in the morning. Elite is a hermetically-sealed escape capsule and it’s the best there is. Hell, you could fire the game up and just sit there on a launch pad and the sounds are enough to carry you away, so strong is your ship’s presence and so absorbing are the station surroundings.

Taking off, tearing through the station entrance a little too fast and just missing a Python, angling for the next jump, scooping fuel from a blazing sun, spinning the camera around your ship to catch its best profile, starting a fight just for the hell of it, seeing smok rise from the command console, hearing the screen crack and precious oxygen escaping into space and landing back at base with seconds to spare – these are the moments that make Elite essential. Trading, missions, mining – not so much. But it’s ok, we’re not going anywhere.

You can land on planets obviously if that's your cup of tea.

The recent engineers expansion is a total flop in my opinion. All it did was add an upgrade shop that you literally have to play wheel of fortune after grinding for hours if you want to get upgrades.

On the bright side, the recent update added a lot of quality of life changes. There's a clock on your HUD, stations have voiced traffic control which is really cool, you can set bookmarks, there are more minerals to mine, you can see what is in a USS by scanning it for a second instead of having no idea what you are about to drop in to, and a few other things I'm forgetting.

The AI also got a major overhaul. They are much smarter and challenging to fight, although they also received some agility cheats to compensate for them not being true humans. They also scale with their combat ranks, Elite having the best weapons and skill. The problem is that the game has no regard for anything when throwing a leveled AI at you. All I do is mine in a high sec system and every fucking time I'm heading back to my home station, I get interdicted over and over by Elite-level faggots in FASs and FDLs that spam missiles and PAs at me. They are able to knock my shields out within seconds. It makes the game horribly unfun if you don't have a combat-fitted ship. This could be easily fixed by implementing a system where harder level NPCs are found in anarchy/lowsec/war systems, and easier NPCs being found in hisec along with the faster sys authority response, but this will probably never happen because Ftroop has no fucking clue how to design a game like this.

Tl;dr all the worthwhile updates that have dropped since Horizon came out have been given for free as regular game updates. There is no reason to get Horizons unless you really want to take pretty pictures of barren planet surfaces or grind for hours for overpowered weapon upgrades.

I've already explained that like half a year ago in one of those ded treds.

Elite galaxy has no gradual rise in star density and instead uses chunks.
One chunk it's normal and the next one is high density. That's what you are seeing.

Compared to Space Engine this is truly pathetic. Also, no globular clusters anywhere.

Also, the notion of ED being a 1:1 scale representation of our galaxy is laughable and only used by the most retarded of drones.

However the more challenging combat has brought a certain edge to the game. I haven't really experienced what the weaker enemies are like since there is no reason for me to downgrade from my topkek tier corvette, but I hope noobs aren't totally fucked over for bounty hunting.
>>
>>144644287
They are. If you are in anything less than an A ranked vulture you basically cannot bounty hunt. At least not while breaking 1m an hour.
>>
>>144645810
At all? Or just that it is slower and harder?
I suspect ftroop can't make low intensity actually easier but only spawn less shit?
>>
>>144580456
It's because ftroop can't into min-maxing, so they balanced the conda's base mass (and consequently jump range) around the assumption that we'd be weighing ourselves down with a gorillan tons of weapons, shields, and fuck huge power plants .

Then we stripped everything down to a FSD strapped to cockpit and tried to leap beyond the gaze of the VISION.
there is no escaping the vision. O7
>>
When I set a destination and the path is obscured, is there some way to get into frameshift and fly around the object that is blocking my path without having to unselect my destination?
>>
>>144646035
Low intensity spawns less hostile ships and more system security ones. I suspect that it restricts doesn't spawn anything above expert either, for the hostile ships ONLY.

What this means is that what few bounties do spawn, will be swarmed by a massive amount of police ships and killed in seconds, and rarely will a noob be able to tag it unless they are RIGHT next to it when it spawns.

Noobs get absolutely slaughtered in medium or high.

I need it for the engineer upgrade I'm gathering materials for
>>
Finally got this piece of shit arsenic. Now I have to scan wakes and search for something in uss.
Fucking kill me now. Engineers is the worst addition. I get material but why the fuck do I have to scan wakes? By this point there should be enough scientific research on everything, why do top of the line, genius engineers require for me to go in field trips?
>>
>>144656231
because this whole update was very poorly thought out
>>
>>144656231
The data you need for that upgrade appears in almost every wake scan, just sit outside a high traffic starport

Lorewise FSD drives are only 5 years old
>>
>>144655012
Just fly around to different systems and scan objects. There really isn't much of a reward to it other than it can be a neat pastime. I only land on planets I think will have a nice view or interesting surface structures like huge craters or mountains/valleys.

I think the reason I enjoy it is that it doesn't feel like a chore to me. When I have some downtime I can just hop on elite and look for cool stuff in space for a while. I usually get carried away when trading or doing combat.

Engineers update is literally Powerplay repackaged.
>here look at the pictures of some dudes
>you can pledge your allegiance to them
>endure a brain damaging grind hauling shit for them
>to get a unique module in the end, maybe
Whoever came up with that idea FAGGOT SANDRO should be fired ASAP.
>>
>>144657194
At least Powerplay let you paint the map for space trump
