In a game with as many dynamic possibilities like Space Station 13, it saddens me seeing people treat their roleplaying experience as a MOBA.

They are the ones that boil player interaction into either attacking and yelling at people for being incompetent and not playing optimally or to their preferences.

Ok, since you seem willing to delve deeper into the rabbit hole I will give you a few tips on how to get noticed by people or at least by me.
First step: make your character recognisable. The first thing I see on my screen is your character's look and clothing. Then I will hover over your sprite to check your name. Make a unique character but don't exaggerate it. Eg: skin/hair colour/style, grey with peculiar eye colour, a particular hat, etc...
Set your flavour text. It doesn't have to be bay/vore retarded, I don't care how handsome you are or where you come from. Describe the main trait(s) that makes your character stand out in there. eg: short and stubby, long hair, red eyes, whatever.
Pick a main department and get good at it. Want to play, for example, medbay? Good. I like doctors who can roleplay while doing their job at the same time, not some kind of powergamer faggot who speedclones me with his dank cryo mix or some cheesy fucker who talks a lot but can't even brainswap someone (unless that's your character).
Roleplay and interact with the crew. Use /me to add some flavour to your actions but don't overdo it. "/me smiles" or "/me waves goodbye to his friend" are ok and may help you if you're not a native English speaker like me.
Develop your character. Is your character benevolent or vicious? Does he like to help the crew in need or is he an every-man-for-himself type of guy? Try to create something interesting and use it as your gimmick while playing.
If you like someone send him/her some presents. Depending on the person you can do that often or not. I will be thankful if you get me a cute hat but this action will quickly lose its "meaning" if you do that every round. Give them time to notice you but don't buzz around them all the time, unless they have interest in you, or you'll be tagged as an annoyance.
ERP is a big no-no unless it's purge day. Don't do that.

It's a roll on who gets it, based on the roundtype. If nobody has it checked, it restarts. Usually, the only mode that has a restart happen is malf AI. Additionally, you can become a traitor partway into the round.
