We do have a match tonight but someone was fucking around with the doc and changed around all the times. With all the scheduling bullshit going on I was confused and I mentioned offhandedly to Whispers that we did not have a game tonight.
The doc was open so that other people could contribute builds and edit their time availability etc but it's private now because of this. I didn't reschedule anything at the last second or make any fucking changes or whatever like you fucks have been memeing about, it's just confusion due to the absurd way this tournament is structured.

PSR is basically an exp bar and nothing else. It's not really representative of skill level vs. "You played a lot". Heck, you have a bunch of good games and you can end up starting in T3 without having so much as finished up a single chassis to elites, if your opponents by the luck of the draw were utter idiot target practice.
That being said, you'll go up tiers faster if you actually are good, but sadly everyone but the most dysfunctionally steering-wheel retarded manbabies will end up in T1-level games, whether because they easily make at least T3 or play so much (and have so little life) that they grind out to T1 regardless of actual ability.

You start in tier 5. Your first 10 matches have a huge multiplier to PSR changes which can give you a head start if you're decent.
Otherwise it takes anywhere 500 matches to move up a tier if you're good, or a 1000 if you're just ok. You probably won't move up past tier 3 if you're shit and plenty of people will always stay in the underhive.

I can't remember which one, but one of them works great with max engine and all MPLs. Make sure to be at a rave when you use it, since it will be harder from the enemy to see your strobbing beams.

King Crab has a huge ct which is easy to hit from almost anywhere. That said if you're being hit by clan lasers you should have some chance to spread that damage around unless you messed up and put in a small engine.

Torso twist and turn when you take a lot of fire, especially clan lasers have shitty burn times so you'll have more time to try to absorb damage with your other body parts.
But yeah, assaults tend to get shat on in this game pretty easily, they move and twist slower and usually have worse hitboxes so the 100-tonner's armor doesn't actually protect you that much in practice.

Conquest would be fine outside of pub matches where coordination and tactics are actually viable. For the most part the best thing to do in pubbie matches is to keep it simple. Stick together, scouts lock targets, don't chase squirrels, kill faggots. Hence the reason why domination, skirmish, and assault are better. They've got a single objective that encourages everyone to stay close.
Conquest on the other hand is spread out all over the map and of course people are gonna be fucktards who run off on their own because "M-m-muh bonus!", which of course, leads to the team being split up and picked off with ease.
Alternatively you've got a team that's grouped up too tightly and focusing way too much on kills so by the end of the match they still lose despite the opposing team only having two guys left simply because nobody is paying attention to points so by the time they finally notice the enemy has four points captured and 600 points it's too late to do shit about it.
You gotta keep shit simple for the average pubbie's tiny brains

We lost to 228 and Lords_NA due to being completely outskilled, I had nothing to do with that. We lost to SWK because of a few reasons but it is fair to say that my scheduling confusion did not help, so I'll give you that one.

Miyamoto Musashi was Japan's greatest Swordsman. In many ways House Kurita channels the Warrior spirit made manifest in the person of this 17th century phenom.

As a Soldier I have read many professional books. Only two books seem to offer... different insight depending on the current stage of my career and life: Sun Tzu's Art of War and Miyamoto Musashi's Book of the Five Rings. The latter more so than the former.
As I perceive this first quote (and I do recognize and lament the loss of context and nuance that is inevitably in any translation) Musashi is making a distinction between what should and should not constitute a Warrior's motivations. Fear of loss, anticipation of accolades - these have no place in the mind of a Warrior on the cusp of combat. A Warrior's focus and thought should be fully in the moment.
And having attained / maintained this frame of mind, a Warrior must be capable of committing to action. The "crossing of swords" does not easily come to all, but remains a defining characteristic of a Warrior.
IMO House Kurita fully embraces Musashi's concept of "Warrior."
This concept of what constitutes a "Warrior" runs counter to many aspects of BattleTech Mercenary life. By its very nature a Meecenary who take "context" out of combat, does not long remain capable of being a Mercenary. Considerations of cost/benefit, unwillingness to risk significant loss of material (Mechs) or personnel (MechWarriors) and a general inability to "look past the C-bills and instead embrace the underlying cause" as the exclusive motivation to combat are all hallmarks of Mercenary Life.
The natural dialectic between these two points of view - Kurita's concept of "Warrior" and the realities of Mercenary Life provides an exceptional fertile field for BattleTech novelist to draw upon as depictions of Kurita / Mercenary "friction" abound.

To me the above translation of Musashi speaks directly to the achieving and maintaining of of an inner resolution and dedication to always "go ahead" despite the challenges and fears of the moment.
"Going ahead" despite the odds against you.
"Going ahead" in spite of what makes you tremble in fright.
"Going ahead" because it is the right thing to do.
"Going ahead" where others are failing to.
In BATTLETECH (as in any war-game) it is possible to gain insight into the realities, decisions, constraints and restraints of the Warrior Way.
From such insight, discussions with others can serve to further qualify and better understand just how impossible the simple act of "going ahead" can be in combat. Where many fail, others "seem" impervious to the hesitation, indecision and doubts that confronts do challenge ALL.
Understanding can lead to appreciation given proper context. Those who manage in combat (as in Life!) to "go ahead" despite it "all," deserve a full measure of respect and gratitude of their communities.
For that respect and gratitude was well earned...

Wandered into a collectible toy joint and found this!
The 'Slaughters Marauders' makes me giggle, it makes it extra authentic!. Has the 'Matchbox 1985' stamp on the inside leg and I used a Nikkor 1.4 lens that is as old as the toy to take the shots, so I went full retro.
The dude who sold it to me is a big BTech fan too, so we talked about the universe for a good 20 minutes.
A regular Battlepod is there too with a few figs, when I go back in a few months, I'll pick them up if they are there and if I've already picked up the Batgirl Black and White at a convention between now and then. Marauder trumped Batgirl and a Hot Toys Babydoll...my loyalties -and hormones- lie with this sexiest of sexies.
The development of this game has made me think about something I wrote up on how I would do a new game in the Battletech universe. This was just an idea I outlined and is in no way any sort of official anything.

I admit, I hate that all of licenses are spread all over the place.
If I became a magical billionaire tomorrow, I'd spend a chunk of it consolidating all of the Battletech licenses under one holding company - books, cartoon, novels, stories, video games. I'd buy all of the licenses back from the licensees and make sure that Battletech LLC or whatever held onto the rights long-term to make sure this "we can't get the rights to *** we wrote twenty years ago" never happens again. It'd cost more than it's worth financially, but I'd still do it in a heartbeat.

How did you start playing Battletech?
I was already a SF geek back in the late 70s when I was in 8th grade or so.
Back then, I was visiting our local book store at least once a week and one day in the early/mid 80s, there was this book with those fancy looking robots on the cover, so I bought it.
It was book 2 from the Warrior Trilogy, "Riposte".
After finishing the book in two nights without a whole lot of sleep (yea, my work kinda suffered a bit), I went back to the store and bought/ordered the other two books from the trilogy as well as the Gray Death trilogy.
When I finished the Warrior Trilogy, I noticed this add on the last page, advertising this cool looking board game.
So I got in contact with FanPro and ordered the boxed set. Well, as the saying goes, the rest (some 300 minis, 40 novels and at least 50 source-books later) is history :)
Note: Usually, I feel advertising is a waste of money if the add is aimed at me, but this once it sure worked :)
P.s.: I just got the 1:72 ADR-04-MkX Defender (read: Rifleman) from HobbyLink Japan delivered (not assembled yet) and got the mail that my MBR-04 Mk-VI Tomahawk (read: Warhammer) is ready to ship. Still waiting for my 1/100 Glaug (Marauder) and Missile Phalanx (Longbow) to arrive and just ordered a Spartan (Archer) and two Valkyries (Wasp and Stinger)
And yes, I´m nuts :)

It started for me when I was in the Navy in 88 and 89. Some of the other sailors I was on base with were into various miniature and tabletop wargames and I got involved in them as well. To this day, my interest in Star Fleet Battles, Warhammer 40k , Shadowrun and especially Battletech stem from the few games I played with those guys for a few months. I went kind of crazy in getting a ton of sourcebooks, minatures, various game expansions, related magazines,etc for the next few years. Until ultimately I had boxes of this stuff, but no one to play against for any of it. So eventually I ebay'd most of it back in the early 2000's with only a few scattered items here and there that were kept.
