It has a much wider variance of units between the factions than say, Attila.

It really depends on if you can get behind the fantasy aspect or not, I'm fine with it so I've been enjoying it but some of the other /his/fags clearly struggle to find any enjoyment in it.

Some things are simplified like sanitation is gone, mercenaries are gone (their mechanic exists for one faction in TW:W though), food is gone, family trees are gone, naval combat is gone, small town defense is gone, etc. but the game does improve in a lot of areas.

Each faction offers a VERY different take on the game. I'm enjoying my purchase a lot, already put in 73 hours.

If you have the money to drop on it, and any semblance of interest, I'd say go for it. If you really need a lot of convincing though before you feel comfortable making the purchase it may be better to hold off.

Warhammer Online all around had higher quality artists doing their concept work.

I mean there is some great stuff from TW:W but it doesn't touch the ridiculously meticulous attention to detail that the WH:O artists brought to the table.

Hmm, TW:Warhammer is really a great game that gives you the one more turn feel, but after only 65 hours i find myself kinda done with it for now.

For as fun as it was to shout WAAGH (much to the confusement of my neighbors) and grumble about grudges, it kinda quickly fades.

I completed all campaigns on hard and very hard, and while factions are nicely different, it is the same for everyone.
Survive the start and then you easily win by simply pressing end turn enough times.

I wish i had an excuse to play this more than just increasing a statistic number for the enemy. I feel i have already gotten the essence of out the game, even if its super interesting.

In comparison i played Shogun 2 for about 150 hours without me feeling that the game was too linear, but maybe i just didnt use the right cheese strats.

I wish i could use hundreds of hours on this game, but at least i can look forward to DLC:

They're fine, they're just down there being peaceful and sending over raiding parties to fuck with the tileans. The bjornlings went ahead and razed some of their sacred clay so I could get my savage orcs. Nothing more I need from them, Azhag is a just and noble ruler.

Franz, on the other hand, is a warmongering, opportunistic piece of shit, and he will eat his own hammer when I'm done conquering the mountains.

I've only done the VC and Greenskin campaigns and I'm at 82 hours.

Granted I did start a Chaos campaign but I didn't get very far.

I wonder if he was playing the game like Civilization and just auto-resolving EVERYTHING unless he absolutely couldn't like quest battles.

Dont do all battles, auto resolve most of them unless they are really important and the auto resolver gives you shit.


Else pretty much just be super agressive from turn 1 until you got a lot of shit, take 10 turns to build eco, and then just rampage around with 2-3 stacks.

By the time Ever-chosen comes the others will be afraid of your Rank 1 and either ally you or keep out of your way, so you can hold a chokepoint from where he comes.

Hoarding eco/growth and knowing when to tech for some turns makes it easy to swarm with armies later.

Bats are probably a lot more [COST EFFICIENT], and they are faster, but they're also weak as shit. You can't really send a bat into a quarreler as well as you can with a vargheist, and if you're sending them after anything that can actually fight back, vargheists don't die immediately. They're not amazing in a fight against actual melee troops, but you shouldn't be using them against those anyway unless it's a flanking attack with the aim to make them route.

Karl-Franz is a badass fighter, but he is primarily known as the greatest statesman the empire has seen. Tabletop his stats are pretty good for an empire unit, but he does not even come close to guys like Archaeon, Malekith the Witch King or Grimgore

I generally like to bring one caster if my Lord is melee only, some of their buffs are great and it gives you a use for the magic.

The melee experts actually get REALLY strong, a Chaos Exalted Hero can easily get as many kills as a regular unit and he provides a leadership buff like your lord.

Witch Hunter are OP and make quick work of any enemy lord/agent unit.

Monsters fill a similar role to cavalry but both are useful since cavalry doesn't cause terror

Also hexwraiths are a bit weird since they have armour's damage reduction without armour so treat them as a unit designed to fight anti-armour units

Monsters MIGHT be somewhat inefficient in multiplayer. For the campaign mode, they're pretty fucking good and also fun. Flying units are basically essential for fucking up artillery, archers, and missile cavalry. Crypt horrors are fucking amazing, especially to charge into enemy flanks. Crypt ghouls aren't as useful as grave guards, but you can still build them if you want, they're just not so great for frontlines. Varghulfs are probably fine too, the only issue with them is that they have shit leadership, but if you're not losing the battle, that probably isn't an issue.

Cavalry is also perfectly fine. The Black Knights with lances are especially good, despite being more expensive you can basically charge right into enemies and fuck them up, especially flanking them, which also adds up with the fear and terror your units do to make them even more likely to start a route. Oh, and if someone tells you that Cairn Wraiths and Hex Wraiths are shit, don't listen to them. They're probably fucking retarded and can't do maths. Someone keeps insisting that they have "75% physical damage reduction but 75% less health", which is just untrue, they have about 2/3 as much health as black knights, and are immune to armor piercing because they don't have armor, they have physical damage reduction. They're also fucking good flanking units. Basically, use everything except skellingtons and grave guards to flank the enemy and hit them from behind. Crypt horrors are also good for the front lines under most circumstances, but not ideal against spears. My advice is to not pay too much attention to what people tell you is shit in this game. Chances are they're wrong, or they're talking about some multiplayer meta bullshit.

In my 2nd campaign (the first failed) I went Dwarf with your advice for quarreler spam and it went great, by the time Chaos showed up I had already beaten all the Greenskins and was safe and turtled up

I'm thinking of trying Empire, any good strategies like the Quarreler spam for Dwarfs?
My first campaign was Empire but I didn't expand fast enough (for like 30 turns I was turtling with just one full province) and when the war with Vampires came around, Chaos also started razing everything up north
I'm even thinking of trying out Hard. I was playing Hard in Shogun 2 and it was good, but the game feels much different now and I'm not as good (it's faster, there's less time to respond and needs faster micro I think)

The fact that their artillery is actually really good early game is a pain on the attack. When they attack Grunburg I basically hide everyone in the forest, until they get close, then send a suicide squad to fuck up the doom divers asap. If you're attacking, you NEED cav, or you'll lose a 100+ men before even reaching their lines.

And you can't afford to lose so many, because Orc Boyz and Warlords stomp all over early game Empire soldiers 1v1, so you need a numbers/position advantage.

My current strat is sending Karl to take down the Seccessionists, and then building a 10-15 strong army in Grunburg until the Orcs are dealt with.

Puts me pretty severely in the red income for a while, but it's the only safe way to not let anything get sacked, and you can make enough money from diplomacy and objectives that it isn't an issue.

First of all, Grave Guards are front-line units, so they obviously have more health anyway. Secondly, those numbers mean that Cairn Wraiths have 40% as much health as Grave Guards, and Hex Wraiths have 58% as much health as Black Knights. Not 25%. Slight fucking difference. Not in the same way. The Empire has shit early game units. Stack spears and crossbows with some swords for flank charges.

Their greatest advantage is that the AI Empire units are just as shit as yours early game, and it's pretty easy to start a chain a chain rout on them with repeated reiksguards charges.

Campaign tips are to unite Reiksland ASAP. Have all four towns bas soon as you can. Then take either Bastonne's nearest town/Marienburg. Priority is Marienburg, but the AI often just likes to sit on their town with their doomstack, so if that's the case, just take the Bastonne town to kill some town and get more trade resources.

In my Empire game (which failed) my typical army was like 1 General 1 Hero, 2 mortars, 2 cannons, 4 imperial cav guys (before reiksguard I hadn't unlocked these yet), 3 Crossbows and the rest was like 7 Greatswords

I actually replaced all my Swordsmen and Spearmen with Greatswords, but that pushed my upkeep way too high and I think it was a mistake when I fought the vampires which had heroes and monsters, I don't think the Greatswords were that good against them

For my dwarf campaign I had 1 General, 3 Grudge Throwers and then like 8 shielded infantry (Empire didn't have good ones I think) like Longbeards and then 8 Quarrelers. It went good.

Crossbows and hand gunners are sadly, extremely shit. It acceptable to have a few crossbows early but you want to replace them with mortars ASAP. Mortars are surprising accurate close range so don't be too afraid to shoot in to combat if the enemy is blobing up.

Outriders are amazing ranged troops, reletivly high damage with AP, use them to harass the enemy while they move toward your main army. Shooting the in back to make them panic, this is the easiest way to win combats I find.

So what's the deal with Marienburg? I ended up attacking them after rebels just because that was the way I decided to go. There was even an achievement for taking them over.

Warrior-Priests are pretty damn useful as well, at higher levels their morale boost will basically keep even state troops fighting to the last man and you can throw them into frontline combat and spam soulfire to shred enemy infantry and buff your's against magical attack at the same time.

I usually have two following Karl Franz, since he's doesn't need the Witch Hunters to eliminate enemy lords and the Priests can keep my main infantry line rock steady while he tears around on Deathclaw fucking things up.

Man, I just fucking can't into dwarves even with quarreler spam. As soon as any greenskin army shows up it always goes the same. Holy shit, I march Franz back to stop them taking Grunburg, and they teleport across the rive into Middenheim.

I march Franz back to finish off the secessionists, and they teleport back across the river into Reikland.

I don't even want to fight them. I just want them to fuck off while I unite Reikland and grab some bret and marienburg land.

I always set my entire army in defensive stance as soon as the battle starts, so then I can tell quarrelers to aim at a target in range and when it runs away they don't chase after him

So if the AI has cav units, I turn around to face them with two quarrelers on each side, and an infantry unit in front of them, and the Cav just melts away under crossbow fire

Usually my quarrelers at the flank aimed at cav, and the ones in the middle aimed at gobbo archers and they all died very quickly

Marienburg aren't technically part of the Empire. They literally bought their freedom from a massively corrupt Emperor a while back, so they could roll in even more money with no Imperial taxes.

They're perhaps the most important port in the Old World, being where trade from the Empire, Brettonia, Ulthuan, Kislev and even some Dwarven Kingdoms show up. As a result, the Empire would quite like them back, but Marienburg literally hires every merc on the Old World to defend themselves whenever the Empire so much as looks at them.

Confederations, the only elector counts I fought were Marienburg, and a little scuffle with Nordland but they made peace when the vampires declared war on humanity. Once the vampire wars began, all the counts stopped fighting each other and signed non aggression, and I confederated like a motherfucker.

They are actual rebels from the empire, and right on your doorstep. The others are whatever and will eventually join you, but marienburg is a traitor to his rightful liege and has to have his skull crushed by the hammer of the emperor before your reign has any legitimacy.

Grimgor wanted a piece of Archaon, and I let him have first pass at him. Funnily enough, he and Thorgrim marched together the entire way like they were buddies. both got the shit beat out of them by Archaon

Only problem with Marienburg is their tendency to camp in Marienburgh with their doomstack for ages. I normally go to Bretonnia. Taking the first town of Bastonne is easy, and if you crush their forces there, you get to quickly force peace/trade/non-aggression pacts with them that make all the brett kingdoms like you. Gives you a shitload of trade links as well.
