Just got the new ACOK to try it out.
I'm not sure about how the map got smaller, but ok.
Compared to 1.5 I last played.

Ice and Fire is both an improvement and flawed in comparison. The eastern continent only has a city and a village for every free city. They're probably placeholders too.

That said, most castles in IaF are basically cities. In ACOK, Winterfell is just a castle.

so what's the consenus on warsword? been playing totalwarwarhammer and curious out about the mod since tw:w doesn't have lizardmen or skaven. also i miss getting into the gnitty gritty battles myself and fighting alongside my troops.

from what i've heard it's shit, but 4chan thinks everything is shit all of the time. is it playable? lots of bugs? i had fun with it a long time ago just because of all the new shit in it. i'd be playing it if it wasn't for tw:w, just don't know if it's worth trying and switching over.

I get that manual blocking is the only way to make fights not last ages, but jesus christ, it's horrible. I don't know why it is that when I'm swoop down to look at the feet of some guy with a pike being an annoying (but theoretically perfectly possible to kill) cunt, the game thinks I want to block left instead of down. I don't see how it's working out these block directions, and that's the bane of my existence. And besides, it's not like blocking actually gives you an advantage or anything. Often times people attack me as soon as their weapon is blocked and before I can attack. I only went over 100 kills and positive in a 150 kill Deathmatch because the Warcleaver is easy mode.

The rest are funny, but this bothers me because people offer to do dialogue or text all the time. Developers tend to think that "psh, I passed English! I could totally do his job!" And then they don't because they're too busy developing or doing fuck all.

I've offered to write a few times, and I have the education to back it up. However, I've been turned away every time.

InF if you want some story quests and a bit more balance with troop trees. Armor choice matters because heavier stuff limits your skills, but you can turn that and most other settings off I think (also you can turn of YOU STUMBLE AND FALL, whereas ACOK can't)

ACOK is like vanilla+ in the Game of Thrones universe, right down to the ridiculous troop trees.

Apparently this was due to factions giving your character armor they couldn't wear- which is a stupid excuse as this has always been the case. May also be due to the new silly troop trees that change the unit's race on promotion.

Zombies level up into ghosts, beastmen into xbox-huge beastmen. I could understand if this was due to a global maximum troop type number, but since they don't seem to value speed and stability that highly, this is possibly just stupid and short sighted implementation of the new factions.

Because this is apparently the only way they could keep them from being steamrolled early on by the Empire. Surely only a couple of settlements with enough lords to defend would do it.
Shitty level design to ensure a lengthier stalemate is not compelling. One of the more interesting things about older Warsword is that it's one of the few mods where the AI, left to their own devices will actually conquer kingdoms given a fair amount of time and momentum.

This isn't down to people with shitty computers, it's the engine. IMO they could reduce the size of the map and take out a few settlements.
The Dark Elf land is basically useless, flat and featureless steppe.
The Arabia land is fuck massive, empty and flat desert with only a few settlements in it.

This is just my criticism of the design and doesn't even touch on the multitude of bugs introduced that even basic sanity testing would have uncovered in seconds.

Warsword is still good, but this new update, despite the time and effort put into it, feels half-assed and actually made the game worse in a few ways. The old version is better.

Holy fuck I've got a Chaos Knight bus rolling, and ain't nothing stopping this train of pure RAPE. For some reason my Khorne Knights have 120 Strength and 165 Health, and OHOK EVERYTHING. I'm mulching Kislev armies of 70-80 troops while sustaining just one to three losses at most. This is fucking awesome.

I like the original setting of warhammer as it remained basically until, what, 3rd edition?

In my mind there's no reason to progress that story toward anything. I'm happy just replaying the same basic time period with nothing really shifting the balance, leaving these civilizations in perpetual war.

Warhammer universe to me doesn't really change. Individual battles are fun, but I never follow them up.

I mean by all means be critical, but I'm tired of seeing people go 'it's shit' without really breaking down the problems with it beside the obvious or unpacking the worse design choices. If you're gonna critical, be critical to an end. I don't think it's irredeemable shit- it has a lot of problems with tacked-on features and it was clear the development wasn't well co-ordinated between different stages and ideas, but I also think it has the potential to be one of the better mods we have with the right polish.
