I mean, I don't get what all this debate is over. Arguably, KoF has a more attractive artstyle than SF, but on a technical level the visuals in SF are far more impressive. Complicated lighting, cloth physics (albeit with massive clipping issues), and hi-res specular textures intended to simulate realistic lighting.

KoF, honestly, is just ages behind. I'm sorry. I'll always prefer playing KoF, but the new game just looks awful. The lighting is atrocious, the models are dated and normal maps lack depth - everything looks like one material. Textures have that distinctive PS2 plasticky look to it, cause that's an easy way to compensate for poor lighting.

And worst of all, the animation are worlds apart. The new KoF's animations are stiff and don't feel like they impart any weight. In contrast, SF's animations, or hell, even the old 2D KoF's animations - they were top of the line. XIII was a fucking gorgeous spritefest. Moves have momentum and weight behind them. I suspect that's why they went really crazy with the particle effects, to cover their shitty animation up, but even then the VFX looks incredibly dated.

I mean, with a new chinese company, used to making shitty freemium MMOs and ripping off western games, with no standards for quality, did you expect anything else?

Really, it's a shame cause I love KoF and the amazing character designs didn't deserve such terrible treatment.

How the fuck you guys can even handle the beginning part of learning fighting games?
I've been stuck here since fucking 2012 and I still fucking SUCK at every single game I choose to play, and losing only makes it worse since I know I will NEVER be as good as the other player since I just can't learn. The animations is what really stands out to me as an actual problem not just having a nice looking game. Fighting games need good visual feedback not just to make a good viewing experience but so the player see the real impact they are having.

I also think they need more particle effects really especially for hits, not ki level though

Hopefully XIV can be a stepping stone

Three main things. Line of motion, perspective, and anticipation.

The character should be posed in the direction of his motion,

The Camera should be spaced such that it lets you observe the motion in full

It's called anticipation, essentially it's the idea that every movement has a setup. To throw a punch you don't just move your arm forward, you lean back a little, pull your arm back, and then throw your arm forward. It's the reason you can predict a fireball from the way Ryu moves his arms, and react accordingly. If animations aren't distinctive, gameplay suffers.
