You start by reading the things the game tells you.
But you take them to the rust abolisher in harth. For most cases relics found in LR and HR aren't worth it but they really shine in endgame. Unless talking about something like LBG where you have no access to RF on FreezeS or DragonS until HR and you can cheat a bowgun in with the relic. Probably same goes for elem/status SnS/DB

Can someone explain to me why I should be doing expeditions?
I've only done them a few times at the beginning of the game and didn't like that monsters could just permanently leave if you didn't finish them fast enough.

It's lost when you're hit, and it's gained when you roll 2/3 times. The Hermitaur Variant armor also has it (and Predicament), along with recoil down +2.
Due to how you lose it (and the damage from Predicament) when you get it, it's ideally used on gunners. Tama's armor is good for bow (since you don't need recoil and it gives slots for gems), while Hermitaur Variant's armor is good for HBG (but it has 0 slots).

X/Gen has been a fuckton better than 4U, at least for me. People are butthurt over the hunter arts and styles, since they seem to think Frontier/Online are leaking into the main series. I've mostly cleared all the quests now (working my way through event quests and such), but so far:

"SnS is an elemental weapon" is amemecommon misconception. How useful would element be on the hunt is determined first and foremost which monster you're hunting. And only then by the weapon type.
Unless the monster has absolute shit raw hitzones and huge elemental weakness, you want to use raw. For SnS as well. Just because it has not as big motion values as GS doesn't mean it doesn't benefit from high raw.

Raw is still very important for everybody, and SnS needs a bit more true raw to work with than say DB or LS. Elemental/status does work very well with its fast hits though, and if in doubt use that calculator. Something like Gravios will get slaughtered with a low raw, high water element weapon like the Dah'ren line, which isn't usually very useful for some weapons.
Zinogre's back is also very weak to raw if that means anything.

Honestly I wouldn't mind if swaxe got changed into a power axe or had some phial-related abilities in axe mode.
Problem with sword mode is why wouldn't you want more damage if you could have it by pressing R? It still has fair range and is even faster and easier to operate. But if you made swaxe an axe-only weapon it could probably end up a bit too similar to LS, which I've sort of likened it to. Instead of fade slashes you just side hop to readjust.
CB at least made its two modes much more distinct in purpose. SA needs something to make both modes just as useful than just fucking damage.

The Lance finisher defaults to a slower but more powerful three-hit move that works well with status if it procs. You're stuck with it on non-Striker styles.
Striker returns the old, faster Lance finisher and removes the charge attack's jump but buffs the finisher. Apparently it and the first three hits combined do more damage than a Lv3 GS charge.
Though I don't think it will be a weapon everyone and their mother will default to for standard play, Lance also has some very good speedrun times. Apparently the best Lance time for Lv10 variant Dinovaldo/Glaive-Anus was around 4:30 (the fastest) but this run is still very good and impressive.

I haven't played X but it looks like as long as the attack "hits" you within about a third of a second from when you roll, it triggers the bushidodge. How can you do it too early?
