The paradigm of having a period of time where your power spikes and normally harmless things become exceptionally dangerous, at the expense of being weaker outside of that window of oppourtunity, is a really fun and interesting way to play a game like this. It's at least more interesting than having a completely flat power curve where you're always at your strongest because you have 40 str and 40 dex and can therefore use every weapon in the game better than every other build without having any weaknesses or vulnerabilities.
Some people play games to enjoy them, not just to minmax.

and unless you're heavily invested in faith with a slow chime, blessed weapon is only 2hp/s. I prefer to use saint-tree bellvine because then you don't need sage ring and can try to actually recast soothing sunlight midfight if you've got some distance.

They're made to do that. If you attempt to backstab them while they're able to move freely (eg. not animation-locked) they will instantly turn, preventing your BS and do a sped-up grab to punish you.
Silver Knights do something similar, and will pull an instant 180 and block if you try to BS them. In both cases, you have to wait until they perform an attack and punish with a BS while they're still in recovery, or they'll just prevent it.
Backstabs aren't instant in 3, so enemies have time to react.

So Faith builds are shit, right? I'm at Ithyrill and there is absolutely nothing I've done with those Faith points so far that warrants the investment. Healing is shit since I have Estus and my Lightning spear hits for all of 60-90 at anything but point blank range.
Maybe Faith builds get powerful later on but at level 45 I have to say they are a complete wash. Pyromancy changes the way you play, as does Sorcery, but Faith is just a waste of stat points that could be used better somewhere else as far as I can tell.

From fucked up. Carthus Bloodring gives more iframes and it doesnt stack with quickstepping. If only there was a weapon with more reach, like a shortsword with it. I have waited around for over an hour with a SL 125 and a SL 96 character outside pontiff and have not gotten a single summon with either. I've also gone all the way up to NG+4 with darkmoon on the whole time, and have not gotten a single one. Am I doing something wrong? Everytime I invade someone, they get a darkmoon fighting for them. Why can't the japanese figure out how to implement networking in their games? I need concords and whatever the aldrich item is to get all the steam achievements.
Any help or tricks would be so much appreciated.

Karla is the weird exception, but she's kind of complicated since dark miracle tomes can be given to either her or Irina. Beasts are pretty fucking easy. Like, 8 swings of a +0 bandits knife with carthus rouge kill them. You can do that before they can even act. 6 swings with any normally upgraded native bleed weapon with carthus rouge.
It's also easy to split them up. Just walk to the one on the left and the one on the right doesn't aggro.

I've noticed similar things on low SL Dancer. Phantoms use the collapse gesture when they realize this guy wants us to carry him to some easy late game items. Sometimes other phantoms don't do anything and just watch the fight. I try to take her down to phase 2 and BC so they can deal with her flailing.

Yes and no. If you're lazy and don't want to constantly refresh your buff then enchanted can do. Crystal magic weapon is way more powerful than the enchanted upgrade path, meaning if you'll have to keep your weapon at +15 if you want to use that.

DaS3 rolls are functionally BB dashes in terms of iframes, distance and vulnerable recovery time. There's almost no meaningful difference. DaS3's regular roll is almost as good as the DaS1 ninjaflip, which remains the strongest roll in the series.
With the Carthus Bloodring, a DaS3 normal roll is actually better than BB's dashes.

estoc in the offhand because it makes fast pokey weapons (RH Halberd included) and greatswords OP because you can combo attacking with one then the other. been trying out refined winged spear and get 400 AR out of it, 495 with resin. make you very hard to parry (whereas spears by themselves have a reputation for being easy to parry). then of course you have leo ring on top of that.
i also use a +9 lothric shield in the offhand, mostly because it helps a ton against giant as fuck weapon users (UGS, Greataxes, etc). more about not getting hit than hitting in those matches.
i've started to have to carry a 2nd set of resins (trying dark) because i literally run out of my first set in many fight clubs now.

5. Sorcery is complete shit at low levels AND overpowered at high levels.
6. As is pyromancy, though it's at least a little better to start.
7. Faith builds are shit until very high levels and then have all of two useful spells. Faith is in general complete shit until you get to Anor Londo and finally get a Faith scaling weapon.
8. Lack of Poise drastically reduces build variety and preferentially benefits any fast weapon, particularly long ones like estocs. As a bonus, various enemies happily Poise through attacks whilst From is telling us our lack of Poise is "Working as intended".
9. Game is WAY too linear.
