How would you want to see a revamp of the Gunners be done?
>>
>>143877021
I wouldn't, since most revamp ideas usually end up being shit.

I don't know why people are sew ass blasted that not everyone in the game world wants to hold your dick for you while you take a piss.

Some people are just dicks who don't want to, and have no reason to, talk to you.

But that's most people in the game. There's nothing to do in Fallout 4 except clear out groups of raiders, mutants, and ghouls.

The fact that they shoot on sight is retarded

Make them seem more like a professional mercenary group that wasn't designed by a 12 year old

Apparently they're supposed to be a mercenary group that do take missions and kill targets for 'the right price" but they're literally just raiders who kill everyone for no reason, except with better weapons.

In Fallout 3, probably Tenpenny.

In Fallout 4, I dunno, Kellogg? He knows you're onto him so he tries to get someone to take care of you?

How hard would it be to make a mod that makes fusion cores not automatically replace, and go down to 0% instead of disappearing, so you have to get out and manually replace the cores?

Would it be possible to add like a building you can place in settlements, that's just like a container you can chuck fusion cores into and it slowly adds charge to them? So you could put your 0% cores in there and come back in a few days to have some charged up ones?

Or the ability to craft two cores together to get one 0% core and one with the charge of the two you started with combined onto it?

Can you make it so you can apply mods directly to power armor frame?
I was thinking of something like a "hybrid" system, like how a car uses the friction of braking to charge the battery, make it so the basic version will take the inertia of falling and make it add a small amount of charge when you land, and then a more advanced version could recharge the core instead of draining it if you're just walking, not sneaking, running or sprinting, maybe even a super advanced version that adds gives you a bit of energy damage resistance and makes the frame absorb energy damage to use some to recharge the core.

Painting the frames could be a nice touch too.

I've really been wanting to make some mods for this game, but I have no idea how posible my ideas are.

Talon Company get hired by everyone from Tenpenny, to Littlehorn, to just random people with enough caps.

Similarly, The Gunners get hired by everyone from seedy wasteland merchants, to Jack Cabot, to Old Man stockton, people with money and back room connections to get a hold of them.

Either give them a reason to be dickheads or limit their shoot-on-site shit to active operations. Give them an in-city presence, maybe integrate it with settlements, you get big enough and they come to either offer their services for a cost, get bigger than that and they send a rep whom you can take or turn away, if you keep him he uses the settlement as a base of operations, taking jobs for the gunners and paying you a dividend of the loot/caps.

I understand that Fallout 3 babies would misunderstand the Fallout series because they started with 3 and never played 1 and 2, so they thought it was supposed to be like that, but now that we've had New Vegas there's no excuse for this ignorance.
>>
>>143877710
> but now that we've had New Vegas there's no excuse for this ignorance.
You mean the game were both Sawsyer and Avellone did everything in their power to destroy bot the Legion and NCR because both think the games were getting to civilized and advanced?

New vegas was literally Obsidian admitting they kinda got themselvs in a whole by making the NCr so large, so they magicked up an equally large rival, then gave both sides fundamental problems that will lead to their downfall, assuming one doesn't totally kill the other first

The entire purpose behind New Vegas was to show civilization ends up shitting itself, and to reset everything back to the way it was in Fallout 1/2.

I think being able to hire them to protect settlements could be cool, like you pay them ~200 caps and you get a few extra guys patrolling a settlement for like a week.
Hell maybe just purchasable guards and provisioners if that's too complex.
Better warning signs around their outposts if they insist on shooting everything that gets within 100 feet, "gunners only, fuck off" or "no civilians, go [some other place] if you have business."
>>
It's especially retarded too because Skyrim added a new NPC behavior where bandits and such would draw their weapons and tell you to back off from their territory before going hostile.

If you left they'd go back to whatever they were doing before, but if you didnt leave theyd attack

They'd remember you too, if you kept leaving and then returning they'd attack you on sight afterwards.

This behavior and lines for it are still in the game files if the CK is to be believed.

What ignorance? Just because one area is thriving doesn't mean another should be thriving. We have people living in skyscrapers in the US and China, but in mud huts in Africa. The fact one exists does not mean another shouldn't?

Let's also point out that the major cities in Fallout 1/2 arose from either people emerging from Vaults with functioning GECKs or due to the actions of the player's character. In Fallout 3, only ONE Vault still had humans living in it and the main experiment for that Vault was for it to never open.

You're also forgetting that DC was decimated by Nuclear Strikes, whilst New Vegas suffered barely any damage thanks to Mr House.

I get you think NV > 3, but doesn't excuse your levels of autistic stupidness friend. :)

They have a reason, they have the largest guns, and in the wasteland, he who has the largest guns wins, and doesn't need to ask.

>or limit their shoot-on-site shit to active operations.
Gunners only shoot on sight if you approach one of tier larger bases like GNN and quincy.

Gunners in the smaller unmarked camps they have across the wasteland will frequently tell you to back off because its a restricted area in control of the Gunners.

>Give them an in-city presence
Except no one will allow them in except Goodneighbor.

>you get big enough and they come to either offer their services for a cost, get bigger than that and they send a rep whom you can take or turn away
They have no need for that when they can just attack you, take all your shit, and sell it.

I'm always picturing the Gunners as a splintered faction with internal conflict, got synth infiltration from the Institute, recruiting from Raiders who have a hard time accepting the paramilitary discipline of the Gunners, so over time things have just broken down with them, a few guys stick to the old ways, a few still take jobs, and a few are just content to be raiders who rape and pillage.

Have a quest with some of the traditionalist gunners where you go out to either talk sense into or wipe out the more unruly gangs and try to reform the Gunners back to what they used to be.

>>143877993

>>143878054
>There's a HUGE disparity between Fallout 4 and NV, 1, and 2 though.
Not really, outside of shady Sands and Vault city, both of whci hwere built by GECKs, most towns in Fallout 1/2 were people slumming in half ruined buildings with holes in their roofs and half collapsed walls, or in dinky shacks like Junktown.

Which is exactly how it is in Fo3 and NV.

Except the people in Fallout 3/4 have trade routes hundreds of miles long going all the way up and down the coast from The Commonwealth to the Broken Banks, and from Ronto to the Pitt to D.C.

They also show an ability to fix up and use boats for sea based trade, whereas in Fallout 1/2, and even NV, we hear of no such similar thing, and the repairing of the oil tanker to reach the enclave's base was considered an odd thing.

I don't think you've played 1 or 2, because if you did you'd know they had thriving towns and cities. The condition of some of the buildings may be questionable, but they're still large towns with huge communities and trading. You've got places like the Hub, NCR, Jacob's Town, New Reno, Redding, ect.
These towns are much bigger and more dense than anything in Fallout 3 or 4, which is just tiny shanty towns.
>>

>>
>>143878805
>These towns are much bigger and more dense than anything in Fallout 3 or 4, which is just tiny shanty towns.
Are people really this retarded?

Let me break it down for you.

The area of land covered by games like Fallout 3, NV, and Fallout 4, is that of the area the Boneyard covers.

How many major settlements does the boneyard have? The Answer is 1, and that is the central Boneyard area itself.

Beyond that, it has an umber of far smaller communitys of 20-30 people each in outlying areas.

comparing the number of large towns in Fallout 1/2, to that of fo3 ,4, or even Nv, is retarded, because it ignores all the context behind how many area those games cover.

If you want to do an actual comparison between Fallout 1/2, and the newer Fallout games, it would be a comparisons between Reno, The Den, The Hub, and The boneyard, and that of the Capital Wasteland, The Commonwealth, The Pitt, Ronto, and The Broken Banks.

And from what we have seen of The Capital Wasteland, The Pitt, and the commonwealth, each has one large city, with numerous outlying settlements of only a few people, and large trade routes between them

Exactly like Fallout 1-2.

How huge could they possibly be? Unless in lore they're supposed to go beyond the borders of a baseball stadium and aircraft carrier there's a significant limit on how big they could be.
>>
>>143879778
>Because lorewise Diamond City and Rivert City were huge
there is also this.

Fenway Park can seat over 37,000 people.

Obviously since people have homes and not chairs the number of people lving in-town would be smaller, but with the grounds, the stands, and the west stands, there could easily be several thousand people living in Diamond City in lore.

And given that Diamond city is over 100 years old, its basically impossible that there isn't

Not terribly hard if you know how to do scripting. Idk why you'd want this tho.

>Would it be possible to add like a building you can place in settlements, that's just like a container you can chuck fusion cores into and it slowly adds charge to them?

Since there is no object in vanilla that does this, you would again need to write a script. Not difficult to do, if you know Papyrus.

>Or the ability to craft two cores together to get one 0% core and one with the charge of the two you started with combined onto it?

Not sure if this is possible even with scripting. You could allow two 0% cores to be combined into a single 100% core, this would just be a recipe like the chemistry or cooking recipes, no scripting required.

Each guard in every city has his own patrol route. If you follow one, you'll see another guard come up to them and tell them their shift is over, then they'll go to the barracks. There, they'll eat, read a book or train, then go to sleep.

I see the Gunners as a remnant US Military unit like the BoS, except they never bothered with keeping up with tech maintenance. Like some national guard unit held up in a bunker for the 10-20 year long nuclear winter and then when they came out they were raiders with military trappings.

Being able to hire or take over the gunners would have been a nice option.

Mod idea -

Integrate the caravan system into a "complete objectve" system. Once settlements reach a certain size (say, 2 or more settlements with 20 pop) raiders/gunners/other gangs send a person to speak with you.

From this you can "hire" units of each gang to complete clear___ from ___ quests, aswell as fetch quests for a price. The unit would move out like a caravan so you could follow and take part if you wanted to.
>>
>>143877645
>player drowning in caps and purified water
>player is leader of largest faction on the map
>mercenary unit would rather shoot at player (and die) than accept a cart load of caps and purified water for mercenary contracts to deal with "an other settlement needs your help" quests.
>>
>>143883773
All you'd have to do is figure out an effective way to create supports with the concrete base. How hard can it be
>>
>>143884128
Actually the argument is, to make the comparison fair, you have to compare one city to one city.

LA -> D.C.
San Fran -> Boston
Reno -> The Pitt
>>
>>143884005
Yeah, I mean there's only ALL SORTS OF FACTORIES across New England.
There's absolutely no way anybody could EVER restore one to working order.

And there's no "that level of tool" people built some of the grandest and most complex buildings known to man with nothing more than wooden scaffolding, block and tackle cranes and basic blacksmithing.

Make a mine, get some ore, or melt down scrap for metal because it's fucking everywhere, make a wood-burning forge, use a bit of railroad track as an anvil, get your lazy ass to work.

Everyone time someone says this I wonder if the yare retarded.

Where did you ever see the Ironworks fully operational in-game?

The answer is never, being able to get the furnaces active =/= all the tiny complex motors that move everything work, which is why all of them are static.

The only functional factory in The Commonwealth is the Machinist's robobrain facility.
>>
>>143884371
but that's wrong, because "D.C." as a city does not exist in Fallout. It is simply a geographical region. It doesn't function as a city, have one population, infrastructure, anything. It's mostly ruins

Don't listen to that fag. Play Fallout 1 first. It's a much more compact, linear experience than the second game. The time limit barely matters unless you're DSP tier bad.

Maxson doesn't mention that, a holotape of a female BoS soldier mentions it.

Also, said solider never mentions the Prydwen had to pull up to avoid them, only that they were tall enough to possibly clip it.

Also, the likelyhood of a NYC game is slim. As much as
>LE ENGINE!
is used as a meme, even with the advancements in dense city scapes the Fo4 engine brought, NYC is still far beyond it.

I think even Bethesda has realized that, which is why no one in Fo3 or Fallout 4 mentions NYc as being any sort of interesting hub of civilization along the east coast.

NYC and Philly have largely been treated as "those dumps full of raiders and shit" that no one cares about.

You will not see this happen again in another historic city like Chicago or Atlanta.
Far Harbor shows the direction that FO5 would have to go.

We also have to consider that even if they did a Fallout 1/2 style map, we would still need like 20 games to cover all of America.

Now that Fallout games onl cover one city + surroundings, it would take even more.

It really becomes a thing where the devs have to pick their battles.

They have to take into consideration shit like size of the city, distance from a previously used city, how the cultures are in those cities, and other factors when determining if they should use that city or not.

This is likely we we got D.C., Boston, Pittsburgh, and Ronto as the major post war cities of the upper east coast, while other large citites like Philly and NYC got put to the way size.

D.C., Boston, and Toronto are all roughly equal distance from each other, giving the devs plenty of room to use for DLC, and since other nearby major/minor cities share a mostly similar culture, they can cover a lot of the culture of those cities in the city they are already using.

We can sort of see this in New Vegas as well. According to New Vegas, Salt Lake City was entirely leveled by nukes, and Denver was abandoned by people and overun by dogs in packs so thick not even The Legion could conquer them.

They are treated as "why they are there, but not interesting" as a way ti tell people about the state of those large cities, without actually needing to set a game there.

We can also see this in places OBsidian said they would want to set another Fallout game, those places being LA, San Fran, and New Orleans.

No one suggested Denver, or SLC, because they lack the sort of interesting cultures needed to make them game worthy.

i think it kind of makes sense

the accent in Toronto is on the second syllable, and going from Toronto to Ronto would be an example of apheresis (which is when an unstressed syllable is dropped to make a word easier to say)

it requires a lot of oral gymnastics go from the /t/ to the /r/ in the tor part of toronto, even with the schwa (the kind of "uh" sound) in between them
/t/ sounds are actually dropped a lot because they require a lot of effort, comparatively speaking

moving from the /r/ to the /n/ in RONto is easier because the o gets your mouth closer to the shape you need for the /n/
and the /t/ in ronTo can easily slide to a glottal stop (which is when a T sound kind of turns into a d-ish sound, like in the phrase "fuh geddaboudit)
the easier something is to say, the more likely it will be said
i'm sorry for talking out my ass like this. if anyone else has any more linguistics knowledge please chime in

New York City is Manhattan Island and all buildings, no green spaces except Central Park. People commute for work and go home after.

Unless you want to start a salvage company tearing down buildings for stone, steel and rubble you're not going to be able to rebuild anything other than a port outpost as there are damaged towns everywhere.

It would be nice is the Library had books but Boston had nothing.

Its indirectly implied that the Institute got its FEV from Vault 81, since they didn't have it when they were founded, and only got it post war.

Also, the similarity in development, such as Behemoths, also suggests its a altered version of the 81 strain

Same here.

It's okay for Bethesda to "FEV EVERYWHERE! SUPERMUTANTS EVERYWHERE!" if they put some god damn variety to them.

And why are Super Mutants in Bethesda games incapable of any form of civilisation?
Sure, the dumb-dumbs are more aggressive, but even in Fallout 1 and 2 they managed to live in cities and everything, they weren't all raiders.
There is like two friendly SMs in Fallout 4 and they basically contrast with the amount of unfriendly SMs.

But the East Coast SMs are just generic enemies rather than big hulking mutated people.

Play Fallout 3 you numbskull.

The FEV used in Vault 87 was a gas based version that caused large scale mutation in a short period of time.

Fawkes explains the sheer pain of having your body mutate so quickly drives basically everyone insane.

The Master's FEV used liquid tanks, and involved a slower immersion process that did changes over time, and thus, it was less traumatic on the person's mind.

Also, east coast super mutants do have civilization. They have their own bases, know how to build and maintain defense, know how to take care of highly advanced weapons like laser weapons, and, according to Fawkes, they have their own culture where everyone shares everything in an idealized form form of communism. they just hate humans for making them, so they try to kill them.

Its almost like people want a character who has an actual life so that they can relate to said character and actually feel sympathy of what the character is going through.

Otherwise you end up with a movie where you don't care, and only watch to see the MC kill shit.

>The reason was either to complete your contract
Your contract, as a Courier, was to deliver the chip.

You are not a heavily armed mercenary. Your contact would only stipulate you go back to Nash and tell him shit got stolen so he could deal with it by hiring an actual merc.

> to get revenge or curiosity
Revenge for the sake of revenge, and curiosity of the sake of curiosity, are considered two of the worst possible character motivations.

Every good revenge plot makes the revenge secondary to the primary motivation, which is usually trying to recuse someone.

Such is the case in Dishonored, show entire tagline was about revenge, yet the game constantly treated the recuse of Emily, and the other throwing of the corrupt government who kidnapped her, as being the primary task.

I honestly dont understand why people are so hellbent on trying to excuse something even the guy who wrote it said was bad.

Sad OBsidian fumbled it that hard, but at least Sawyer had the decency enough to admit they fumbled.

Survival is fun when fighting raiders/people with guns, but holy shit it seems so cheap when you fight animals.
Packs of dogs feel flat out unfair since they two shot you, spawn in packs, run faster than you, and can hit you even if you're not near them once they bite. All of that on top of being able to tank shotgun shots to the face like it's nothing.
It feels cheap as fuck.

Granted I am low level, but I've been able to take down most threats with good cover and sneaking. Except dogs who are impossible.

Have a Raider with a shotgun pop around the corner and one shot you is pretty frustrating as well, especially when you blast them 2 - 4 times in the head before they can fire, and they just shrug it off and one shot you.

They really should have given the player more damage if they wanted it to feel more realistic. Also tone down dog/bug damage a bit. It's fine Yao Guai or Death Claws tearing you a new one, but diseased and starving dogs shouldn't tear your legs off with a single bite and take bullets like they ain't shit.

There is nothing that explicitly states that Synths are FEV-based. As far as we know, their DNA is 1:1 human.

The Institute already tried to help the surface world, they spent 4 years trying to keep the Commonwealth Provisional Government together only for the petty bickering settlements to destroy it, then turn around and blame it all on The Institute.

And we have already seen what happens to those who try to build the old world.

The NCR is a bloated, corrupt, quagmire, thats running out of both food and water, and is going to face mass starvation in 10 years time unless they pull something out of their ass fast, and is suffering from mass civil unrest.

The Legion is a brutal, cult of personality, whose future rests on the shoulders of a dying elderly man, and is unlikely to survive him.

The MwBoS is a crazed, authoritarian, police state, that rules its population through fear of crucifixion, labor gulags, and mutant discrimination.

On the east coast, Ashur has turned the city of Pittsburgh into a slave empire, whose network reaches out hundreds of miles to prey on people as far as Ronto and the Capital Wasteland.

Why would the Institute think that helping such obviously retarded and self destructive people would be worth thier time when past experience has shown all people are going to do with it is throw it away and bitch

The Institue literally builds operatives.
Sure, you got the upper hand against a courser, but is that justification for putting the entire Institute in your hands just to have you fight for them?

Since you're the protagonist, it IS actually a great investment, since you always win, but the characters in the game couldn't know that.

This is where mods should come in. While they can be as big as DLC areas, there's no pressure for them to live up to the standarts of a new game or DLC.

The Denver and Boulder Dome mods for FNV are perfect examples of this and there are many more big mods with non-vanilla locations which give you new stories, items and locations while still being lore friendly. These mods are the reason I don't uninstall Bethesda games after completing the game and the DLCs %100 percent in one or more playthroughs.

Because instead of admitting it was their own fault that the CPG fell, the people of the wasteland immediately turned around, blamed the Institute, then started making up increasingly paranoid bullshit about how every leaky pipe was The Institute's fault, which is turn prevented the Institute from helping further since everyone blamed them for everything and refused their help.

That image implies a lot of things. Like that a story is good if it has a lot of endings. The story in NV is incredibly dumb, after you kill Benny the Courier has literally no reason to continue working with House, NCR, or Legion. Or that groups of npcs that are factions in name only should count towards the total number of factions. The Kings are a great example of this because they never leave Freeside or interact with other factions other then the one shootout with NCR. NV also fails at providing a decent exploration experience. Try walking to Vegas from Goodsprings, in fact try going anyway but south and you will die. Obsidian forces you into what is essentially an on-rails segment for a good hour or so and by then your so sick of being dragged by the dick down this path that you don't even care about the story anymore. No game is perfect but I'm seriously sick of people pretending NV was a complete masterpiece and that anything Bethesda makes is steaming shit. You're so concerned about the names attached to the games that you don't see that they are equal piles of Brahmin dung.

There's no reason for the Institute to replace anyone. They could've thrown Synths up there with madeup names and faces and had them do their surveillance like that. Would've made people a lot less violent and suspicious toward them too. Same with the farmers.

TES has that sort of subtly all throughout its questlines.

Fallout however is billed as a post nuclear wasteland game, and given that many people don't play long enough to reach months were the trees would start blooming, its not really cost efficient to do so when few people are going to see it.

Shaun wasn't the only pure human.

When asked, he explains he was chosen because he was an infant, and because both of his parents were in the Vault, giving The Institute the best source of shared DNA should Shaun die for whatever reason.

No other family had that many direct blood relatives in the Vault.

Kellogg says during his memory sequence he was no idea why The Director at the time ordered everyone else killed, only that it was likely because the Director didn't want loose ends.

It may have also been to converse power for the backups.

Synths aren't clones of Shaun, they're just based on observations of FEV interacting with his cells.

this has already been proven false more times then I can count.

>Literally one one skill check in the entire game
Modern games should have less skill checks because most skill checks in older RPGs were nothing more then abstractions of things game technology couldn't do at the time.

We don't need shit like perception skill checks to tell if someone is lying, or to find hidden passages, because we can just see from their fully modeled facial movement if they are or not, and we can simply look around the fully modeled world to find them.

We dont need stealth checks to slip past NPCs because we can just do it in real time via sneaking.

We don't need science checks to complete technical puzzles becuase they can just show us the puzzle and let us do it ourselvs.

Gun skills and gun checks have become increasingly less common because we don't need them as we can just aim and shoot the gun in real time.

I would honestly be worried if a modern game did have skill checks in that number, because it usually means the devs are being lazy and just resorting to old tech to actually have to make half-decent gameplay systems.
>>

>Three still isn't enough for the "next step" of human evolution.

It must have been for human genome mapping.
With a "pre-war" map the defects could be edited out resulting in (moire pure) DNA to grow the synthetic tissues and assemble stronger humans.
The Synth gorillas were super strong too.

The problem is that the Synth humans were still human and not immortal gods They still have the incompletely evolved human brains and are just another branch of apes like chimps and gorillas.
They can be just as self destructive as "normal" humans and become extinct too.

After seeing a woman's organs fully on display while she was still drawing breath I finally understood the beauty of seeing all of those parts working together in unison.

We do need skill checks because they are a reflection of YOUR CHARACTER'S ability to do those things, not YOUR ability. The vast majority of choices are "do this" or "walk away," not grey. Far Harbor was a nice exception but it still suffered from some traditional Bethesda flaws: Everyone and their mom is essential and shit like the Institute and BoS options are just premature bad ends without loot or exposition. Don't even offer options like that if you're not going to flesh them out.

Bethesda tried very hard to imitate New Vegas' faction war but they just don't /get it/. There are still too many essential NPCs, even "your faction," the Minutemen, is just being ordered around on meaningless radiant quests by other NPCs, and they were totally out of their depth on the philosophy of the Synths, constantly contradicting themselves with old-world robots like Curie and Codsworth, because cute was more important than consistency. Constantly bringing up your damn family is another huge mistake 4 makes. Whoever thought up the main quest, Mama Murphy, Shaun/Father, just needs to never write again.

FO4 should've just introduced more types of radiant quests I M H O

If you've ever played Mount & Blade, you know what I mean, that game is 100% radiant quests and yet there's a bit of variety in them:

>Tax a village for a lord, choose to tax them lightly or heavily, then either keep the gold for yourself or give it to the lord
>Train villagers to fight better, then lead them into battle against the bandits that try to raid them
>Kill all of the looters that are ransacking the countryside and kill them
>Escort a caravan to a distant city
>Take a shipment of goods to a distant city
>Bring cattle to an army in need of food
>Discover the spy, then follow him to his secret meeting with his conspirators, and kill everyone before they flees to the safety of enemy lands
>Be a spy yourself
>Rescue an imprisoned lord
>Hunt down a renegade of the hiding amongst a village and claim his bounty

etc

Oh fuck off, House is Institute(elitist guys sitting in their safe space), BoS in NCR(snobby imperialists but they help people), Minutemen is Yes Man(failsafe, can't die, you're ostensibly the leader but unlike Yes Man you have no actual control)
The difference being House isn't a psychopath murdering people and replacing them for fun, the NCR is an actual government that doesn't shoot random people for being robutts

It's okay if you can't attack NPCs. What's not okay is letting you attack them and then stopping you from killing them, leaving them aggro'd against you but unkillable, just because muh plot. Especially when most people can be killed but then it surprises you with random essential ones thrown in.
Far Harbor was exceptionally guilty of it. Every named NPC in the towns was fucking essential. You couldn't even turn on FH if you lacked the CHA to stop them from attacking Acadia, you had to sit and watch.

That's exactly the fucking problem. You can't "become" a Synth. She was MADE as a Nanny and shouldn't have had the capacity to ask for what she did or adapt to completely foreign technology in the new body.

HAVE YOU SEEN A BABY? No, the others don't even come close to the trainwreck that is the first half of 4's main quest. Like, why the hell are you listening to this drugged up bitch? This is the best justification they could think up for proceeding to DC? And why you go fucking around in Kellog's brain after you kill him, just in case?

We should all thank Bethesda for making the game have a much, much, much, much larger market appeal and thus sell in higher and higher quantities, prompting a future for the series that it lacked.

Yes Man was pretty smart. They made a plot reason for him coming back instead of just an injured pose. You can resolve his quests however you want, no matter how counter intuitive it might be - helping factions side with Caesar or the NCR to wipe them out later, or getting them to ally with you and survive. Or wiping them out yourself immediately. Or ignoring them altogether. He doesn't just tell you to walk into Gomorrah and kill everyone.
>>
>>143915756
She's pushed as the "cool" character with no reason to make you see her that way, just like Three Dog.
>>
>>143915537
I really hate how the BoS is portrayed in fo4. If you played the first two games, you know that Maxon is actually just kind of an asshole and is all talk. They're just going to remove all synths and then go away to let the people build their lives. But they have to try to hide how good this is to invent some kind of downside.
>>
>>143915563
>After all, if the game was so great during the 1/2/T times why did they go under before they made Van Buren a reality?
Because Herve Caen took over the company after the previous founders left, and directing all funding and effort into making shitty spin-offs that no one wanted like BoS, instead of finishing the original Fallout 3 which they had already started by never got to complete.
>>
>>143914640

>>143914816
Minutemen quests are just requests by settlers.
You have 3 options kill the on who requested it, ignore it, or do the quest.
With kidnapping you can even just pay the ransom.

Heck sometimes it gives you the option to just pay the bounty.

>>143914943
You're comparing the radiant side quests to the main questline.

>>143915181
You realize that a great many rpg revolve around violence.

>Fetch me these BoS holotapes, oh and along the way clear out the mutants and ghouls
>Go find Nick and clear out the Raide-I mean, Triggermen
Because there was nothing else involved in these quests.

>Go find Kallog and clear out the Synths
Because you should talk yourself out of any situation even when it makes no sense.

Did they shove violence into most of the quests? Yes.

Did all quests just involve violence?
No.

The NCR pulled it off better because they aren't threatening people undeservedly. They're very gritty realistic insofar as being a sluggish bureaucratic mess that basically wants to bring order to the Mojave.
The BoS come off as too unnecessarily violent when it comes to issues like Danse and all the random Synths trying to live peacefully in Boston.

The Institute and BoS are just unreasonably vile to everyone outside their organizations. RR isn't far behind with shit like WOULD YOU GIVE YOUR LIFE FOR A SYNTH, they're all downright obsessed.

>The difference being House isn't a psychopath murdering people and replacing them for fun, the NCR is an actual government that doesn't shoot random people for being robutts

You right, in New Vegas
-The NCR are a totally incompetent faction, tripping over themselves at every turn, and totally unable to do even basic tasks such as killing ants, recusing a few soldiers from a mine, and checking up on Nipton, without needing the player to do it

On the other hand the BoS defeated the Enclave, put down a super mutant horde larger then the Master's, built an airship, travel over 400 miles, and started fucking the hordes of the Commonwealth up without your help.

In New Vegas, House is a totally egotistical idiots, whose every plan has backfired, who his chosen three families have all turned on him in one way or another, and whose hand picked apprentice betrayed him, and his despite claiming to want to take over Vegas, he has done everything to make everyone hate him.

On the other hand, The Institute has taken technology far beyond even House's wetting dreams, successfully perfect FEV, created a race of near perfect human clones, and successfully used subterfuge to keep an entire wasteland's people down, to the point they are all afraid to even try to stand up to them.

In New Vegas, Yes Man is an easily re programmable robot who could easily be captured and made to turn against you, and the Yes Man ending is nothing but a quasi anarchic police state where nothing really gets better

In Fallout 4, the Minutemen are a movement of the people that eventually unifies the Commonwealth under a single flag and works to the betterment of the wasteland

In New Vegas, Caesar's Legion are a bunch of tribal idiots who irrationally shun technology, and medicines, they crucify and enslave people for no real reason beyond its easy.

In Fallout 4, the railroad is a group dedicated to the cause of freeing the Enslaved, and has successfully managed to (cont)
>>
>>143916527
The ncr pulled off what better? The BoS doesn't want to control anything. They just hide all the technology and crush roaches. Then they go away and let the people do whatever. They aren't even comparable entities. The BoS could have completely controlled the NCR at its roots and they declined. One is government and the other is just a helpful force that leaves.

There can be NO pacifist solution here, Kellogg knows he was set up by Father to be killed and is tired, he would never retire as the Synth assistants would turn on him and try to kill him and he may even have a bomb in his head.
Kellogg cannot teleport and you would still end up having to go to the RR for help.

Yes Man agrees with whatever you do. He'll lampshade bad decisions but he can't tell you no. The only necessary thing to side with him is killing House. >Even the expulsion of Ghouls from DC is implied to be the Institute's doing through McDonough.
Yes, but even Hancocs notes that even if the Institute was repsoncible for it those people's racism was still their own.

The Institute took advantage of their racism to get them thrown out, but they didn't make the people drag ghouls out of their homes, beat them, kill them, or otherwise harm them.

People hate ghouls, even in The Capital Wasteland the ghouls lived in Underworld not because they wanted too, but because the people of the wasteland drove them there.

Even in more civilized places like the NCR, people like Aster mention ghouls should just be put out of their misery, all the ghouls rangers are isolated in a tiny outpost, and NCr government constantly send merc to harass super mutants.

ghouls, super mutants, synths, any mutant or creature not human is hated by the normal people of the wasteland, and it takes only the slightest spark for the people to turn on them.

this has been a staple of the series since Fallout 1

> Institute is the whole source of Synth related violence anyway
More like the Railraod, since they are the ones hiding synths all over the place.

Robert A. Heinlein. He was a prolific science fiction author, one of the "Big Three' along with Isaac Asimov and Arthur C. Clarke who practically invented the concept of powered armor with his novel Starship Troopers (some may argue it was actually E.E. "Doc" Smith who first described a similar concept in his Lensmen novels). The man was staunchly Libertarian and it showed in his writings, particularly in the novel The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress, which was basically the American Revolution IN SPACE! He was also an officer in the US Navy but received a medical discharge just a few years before WWII broke out after contracting Tuberculosis. He wasn't very religious though. In fact, his novel Stranger In A Strange Land was intended to be a satire of religion though much to his chagrin the hippie movement adopted it as their bible, even going so far as to make pilgrimages to his house to offer "oblations to his altar" (Heinlein once told a friend that he was going to put up an electrified fence to keep them off his property one time).

Speaking of Hancock and the DC Deghouling, you'd think he'd have noticed his brother being replaced by a synth.
>>
How Power Armor should work:
>Needs an excuse to be delivered. Maybe with BoS/Minutemen(with vertibirds) a vertibird could drop it on you, or with Institute they just teleport it to you. Before that, maybe just some fanboy or something who will happily deliver it to you on foot.
>Power Cores are destroyed from overheating, not from running out (like the lore says)
>When Power is low, a warning alarm starts and warning lights. At this point the core will be glowing on the players back. The player needs to exit the power armor and allow the core some time to cool. The core will fully recharge after a few minutes. Power Armor can be used as cover until this completes.
>If the player does not exit, the core is ejected and explodes (like NPC PA does), and then the suit is stuck in "no power" mode. The player can exit the PA and place a fresh core in it.
>Cores can't be removed while they are low power (too hot to touch), but they CAN be manually ejected if they player wishes to replace them immediately. Cores taking damage reduces power, possibly causing the PA to eject its core even while shut down.
>Cores are less common.

The Railroad is the one covertly dropping synths into most communities

Magnolia, Sturges, Danse, all Railroad moved synths.

The only people we see The Institue replace are
-The Mayor of D.C.
-Roger Warwick
-That one guy in Goodneighbor
-Art

None of which have gotten discovered except the guy in goodneighbor.

The railroad is more at fault for synths popping up then the Institute is, hell, The Institute even has the SRB to bring them back EXACTLY SO theres not synths wandering around the general populace.
