Yea I did not get it for a while but then It became my favorite part of the game. My not be as helpful if their kingdom/dutchy/etc dont allow for inheritance pass realms. You what to marry into heirs, lets say your son marries the heir or the dutches of candyland. their son will inherit both. But if your son as a title lower then hers the child will in the court of the wife, out of your realm, you lose tides. But if your son has the same type of tides or higher, the son will be born in your court, and when the mom dies, the child gains the mother's land and in turn you do as well. You can also invite to court hairs who have daddy issues.
Courtiars that are hairs, dont stay in your court they became free counts/dukes/etc. Unless you give them a tide. Not sure if it has to be equal or not.

I had a lot of crashes early on, when you first start out and don't know what is causing a crash it can be really frustrating. Eventually though you begin to be better at debugging to the point where any issue can be fixed in a few minutes.
Most of the time for me crash on launch was caused mostly from saving the file in the wrong way.

In the last 9 years, France has changed. Between her war with Drexler's Germany and her engagement with Great Britain, even in the midst of her military reform and her naval expansion, Action Française has been constantly at work in the government to secure more and more control of the state. Throughout this entire process, quietly, Napoleon V and Charles Maurras have been aiding and abetting their party at every turn.
First came the subsumation of other conservative parties into AF, the most simple of the many steps it took for AF to come to dominate the Assembly. The weak, arch-conservative Nationaliste faction was simply encouraged to fuse their party with AF, and did so gladly. The slightly more liberal Royaliste party joined forces with AF after Napoleon V placed significant pressure upon them, and granted several key members of the party important governmental positions. When this was done, although AF now consisted of a motley band of true Fascists and simple conservatives, the party was stronger than even the Socialists in the Assembly.
Next came the elimination of enemies, both of Napoleon V and of the party. Die-hard liberals who were perceived as incorruptible or as focal points for their respective parties were hand-picked for removal, either by means of carefully-arranged "accidents" or by political slander and ostracization. Some of France's most ardent liberals fell in this manner, among them Georges Clemenceau, the moderate republican leader who had initially refused to support Joseph's coalition to declare war upon Drexler's Germany. He, along with Socialist leader Aristide Briand, were both entrapped by the granting of a disproportionate tax deferment, then caught the following year during a "routine" check of finances, tried, and sentenced within a few months, simultaneously crippling the moderate republicans and the all-powerful Socialists. Therefore, on April 15th, Napoleon V commissions several designs for a new flag for the state, one which will represent the importance of the Party and the monarchy both, but in their "proper place."
The final design is finished on May 1st and, although it would not see widespread use until later in the year, was made official at that time. It features the blue and red of the tricolor, but on the exterior of the flag, clearly subject to the white of the monarchy. In the center of the flag the Fasces is clearly visible, but perched upon it, in much greater size, is the golden eagle of Napoleon V. The symbolism is clear: Napoleon V is Emperor, ruling the Party which runs the state, with the united peoples as the backbone of this hierarchical system.

When France's army reform began eight years before, many French citizens were curious as to why Napoleon V recruited so heavily from the Rhineland as he did if he was truly as racist as he claimed. For calling Rhinelanders "swine" and wishing they were "out of France" as frequently as he did, Napoleon V used a higher percentage of Rhenish men in his armed forces than any other French Department.
Yet what these curious citizens failed to understand was precisely how racist Napoleon V was, and how much he desired the destruction of the German man. As early as 1921, he had planned for the eradication of the Rhenish peoples in France.
During the army reform, almost every extant French regiment was broken down and reorganized, and in the process each soldier was required to answer a mandatory questionnaire, "for statistical and support purposes." Questions ranged from the mundane, such as blood type, to seemingly innocuous questions which actually had a much darker purpose, such as a list of all addresses the soldier had lived at, what his native language was, and a listing of his ten closest relatives, their addresses, and their native languages, "for communication purposes."
In the process of the army reform, Napoleon V had effectively established a short-list of Rhenish peoples. While it was obviously far from complete, it provided the Napoleonic state with millions of easy places to begin looking for Rhinelanders, and also made it easy to drum Germans in the army straight out... and into concentration camps.
And so when Napoleon V briefly met with his Minister of Security Léon Daudet on May 16th and told him simply to "move ahead with our plans," he knew exactly what to do and how to do it.
Rhenish peoples began disappearing from their homes three days later.

On the 27th of June, Paris was finally taken, and the will of the French king began to meet the will of the French people in heading towards peace.
One notable moment throughout the Rethel War include the heroic stand of 20 thousand Navarrans against 50 thousand French and English soldiers in the town of Poiters, where they battled for over two months and finally stood victorious. Another such was the massacre of Avignon, where 20 thousand Germans and Rhinelanders and Piemontese were wiped out in a massive assault on the town by French forces.

Because Namibia was once a German colony it has a high percentage of German citizens who have no desire to live under the rule of a party which is overtly hostile to them. This, Napoleon V cannot allow. He orders an invasion of Namibia from his still-loyal colonies of Botswana, the Congo, and Buganda, with Portuguese support. Although Namibia is a sparsely-populated land, "allowing the German any route of escape from Europe would prove disastrous; the state must be brought back under the control of the colonial branch of AF immediately."

When Napoleon V assumed absolute power, two nations broke their agreements with France and, in so doing, threatened the new Continental System: Spain and Scandinavia.
Scandinavia under Gustav I had long been walking on eggshells around France, considering the extreme racism of Napoleon V to Germanics. Scandinavia's "pittance" of land gained in the dismantlement of Britain was a major point of contention between the two powers, and was part of what ultimately made Gustav I decide that working with Napoleon as an absolute monarch was simply infeasible. On April 2nd, Napoleon V was informed that Scandinavia was completely withdrawing from their alliance.
Spain's retreat from the Continental System was a surprise, but one that Napoleon V soon came to "understand" when he learned that Spain and Scandinavia had entered into an alliance.

Truly, even by Iberian standards, the Spanish did not put up much of a fight. Surrounded by combatants on both sides, the Spanish chose to focus the vast majority of their forces against the Portuguese in the hopes of quick knock-out blow, at which time they could quickly turn to face the French armies. It was an optimistic plan, to say the least, but it was also the strategically most sound plan for fighting a war on two fronts, with one of those fronts consisting of the strongest military power on the planet.
Unfortunately for Alfonso XIII, his Generals couldn't even beat Portugal.
Napoleonic troops captured Madrid in late February, at which time, predictably, Alfonso and his wife fled to the south, boarded a boat, and sailed for Canada to join George V in his exile. This has only served to convince Napoleon V that Alfonso was truly in the "Germanic camp," and he orders the palace in Madrid "sanitized" before he is to arrive there for his Spanish coronation.
Well that was easy, the war has been won thanks to Italy.

Navarran disillusionment with European politics furthered as the Holy Roman Emperor declared another punitive war against the French.
Although they were allied to the HRE's forces on paper, Navarran forces did not see battle during this war, and so without their support, the French were able to secure victory, regaining Rethel, taking the town of Liege, and forcing the release of several south German and Italian states.
The French king also forced the Kaiser to discontinue the alliance between himself and the Queen of Navarra as part of the peace proceedings.

I think England might be because I changed the Channel Islands to be part of an English province rather than Normandy, because otherwise I don't think I changed the actual country border very much. And Riga I made that way because I'm not adding new provinces (so I can't split the non-urban part of Riga off nor can I fix Overstift) and as far as I can tell the entire territory of Riga was annexed in one go historically anyway. Fifth one I formed was Cordoba (aquetaine, leon, castille, aragon, and galicia.)
Sixth one I formed was Francia as the HRE since it had all the de jure land after three empires ate into it. Then I gifted it to the pope who was a von habsburg, he somehow ended up feudal and I got a woman pope as his vassal.

What game do you think is the best for people new to Grand Strategies? I've been trying to get my wife's son into it so we connect better. I think he would like the genre if he was to try it and have a positive experience. He likes playing Civilization 5 so there is hope for him. I was thinking about getting both of us Hearts of Iron 4 when it comes out. Stellaris is not an option because my wife doesn't like her son playing "violent space games." I played Germany first, mostly because I wanted a nation which I knew could win with relative ease, so my first-time fuckups wouldn't end the game for me too quickly.
If you find them daunting though, a better option for you might be Japan. They're relatively isolated, so most anybody you fight (sans maybe Russia) you should have the clear upper-hand on, particularly early-game. That should give you time to figure out the basics before you have serious fighting later in the game.

Japan is honestly one of the only majors I haven't played, so I can't say. You get a feel for how things go in a DH game because a lot of the events for individual nations (their name and the option the nation went with) are visible to the player, so you can infer a lot about what a game as them is like.
The simplest nation I ever played, to be honest, was Germany. Keep in mind I'm strictly discussing Kaiserreich, though, because I haven't played vanilla DH yet.

If you want an ideologically variable nation, Russia and the US are the two big ones, although both of those are sort of difficult to play, for different reasons. The US is tough because you have the Civil War very early on, and if you're trying to play as the Fascists/Syndicalists it's fucking tough as hell to beat the USA tag. As for Russia, it's tough simply because it's daunting.
